Nature and Nurture
“Some people think that as
soon as you plant a tree, it
must bear fruit. We must
allow it to grow a bit.”
– Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra

minister
Sons, daughters, brothers,
sisters, mothers, fathers,
grandparents—each one of
us falls into at least one of
these categories as part of
our relationships in life. For
many of us, the roles have
changed over the years, as
life brings new and changing
opportunities and challenges.
One such opportunity is to
mentor children and young
adults.
Having the opportunity to
influence and support a child,
teen, or young adult is more
than a Hallmark moment.
Countless adults give their
time, energy, finances,
and—most importantly—life
experience—to a young person
or group. They’re reading
tutors, pen pals, Sunday
school teachers, school
volunteers, and much more.
These relationships can and
do change lives.
Touchmark’s Full Life
program encourages
Volunteerism and
Civic Engagement, and
countless residents serve
in this capacity. Volunteer
“champions” visit schools
to assist students with their
academics and recreation.
Sometimes, the children come
to the community to spend
time with a special friend or
friends.

the wider community, such
as collecting food, knitting
