Joy is an outcome of a heart that has given itself over to goodness.
While joy often erupts in gladness, it can also be experienced as a
quiet serenity during times of sorrow. That is the paradox of biblical
joy—it is not dependent on happy circumstances to find its way into
the deepest recesses of our being.
This retreat weekend for women will reflect on the mystery of joy as
it is portrayed in the scriptures, and manifested in the lives of believers.
Through presentations, prayer and story we will explore joy as both an
attitude of receptivity and a capacity to take delight in the Holy.
Sr. Fran Ferder, FSPA, Ph.D., D.Min.
is a Clinical Psychologist and pastoral theologian, lectures nationally
and internationally on issues related to human relationships,
sexuality, communication, pastoral theology and religious life.
Fran is the author of Words Made Flesh: Scripture, Psychology, &
Human Communication, and co-author (with Fr. John Heagle) of
Tender Fires: The Spiritual Promise of Sexuality. Sr. Fran & Fr. John
team teach courses in pastoral ministry and sexuality at Seattle
University’s Graduate School of Theology and Ministry.
