Another Record-Breaking Year!
Children’s Miracle Network raised a record-breaking
$3,298,578 for Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital during
the 2011-2012 fundraising year. This total was announced on
the final day of the Telethon that was held in June and aired
on WGAL-TV8. Top contributors included GIANT Food
Stores, Rite Aid, Cumulus Media Harrisburg, Walmart and
Sam’s Club, employees of The Hershey Company, employees of
Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of
Medicine, and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts. In addition,
$225,000 was raised through phone pledges during the
Telethon to purchase life-saving equipment for the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
Since 1984, Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than
$44 million for the Children’s Hospital.
The Children’s Miracle Network Telethon was held June 9 and 10 and
aired on WGAL-TV8.
WGAL’s Jere Gish interviewed Dr. Charles Palmer about an incubator that
viewers helped to purchase through phone pledges.
WGAL’s Doug Allen interviewed Miracle Children Hailey and Alex Ketch.
Children’s Miracle Network Dollars at Work!
We love showing you how your donations help patients at
Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Children’s Miracle
Network recently purchased a quiet cast removal saw. The
amount of noise produced by traditional cast saws can be
frightening to children, which makes the cast removal process
more difficult for the child and medical staff. The new cast
saw works similarly to a can opener and is virtually silent.
This reduces anxiety and makes the overall experience much
more pleasant for the child. Children’s Miracle Network
also purchased a child-friendly examination table for the
procedure room where casts are removed. The table includes
a play area for the patient or sibling to make their experience
more comfortable. To watch a video about the quiet saw and
examination table, visit PennStateHershey.org/CMN.

A Home for Hope
The public is invited to help celebrate the
grand opening of the new, free-standing
Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital on
Saturday, November 17 from 10:00 a.m. –
2:00 p.m. This community event will feature
ceremonies to acknowledge those who made
the Children’s Hospital possible, activity areas
for children and families, raffle prizes and
giveaways.
The new, five-story building will feature
private patient rooms, outpatient offices, a
new pediatric radiology unit, a blood bank,
a pharmacy, five operating suites, the Penn
State Hershey Center for the Protection of
Children, an outdoor courtyard, a learning
wall, and a stage for performances.
Help us celebrate this home for hope!
“The doctors and nurses make sure kids get the
right medicine, but the activities in the playroom
make kids happy and help them forget about the
medicine.”
–Joey Setlock, pediatric cancer survivor
Meet a Miracle Child
Julia and Jayden recently joined our network of Miracle Children, a group of current
and former patients of Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
Julia Lindenmuth, 7
York
Julia was diagnosed with Aicardi
Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder in
which the structure that connects the
two sides of the brain is missing. This
caused Julia to experience seizures
several times a day. Julia has had
numerous surgeries since birth and is
treated regularly by several therapists.
She loves being pushed in her swing,
playing in her therapy pool, and
listening to music.
3
Jayden Finney, 5
Harrisburg
Jayden was four when he was
diagnosed with Type I Diabetes.
The staff at Penn State Hershey
Children’s Hospital helped
Jayden and his mother, Erica,
adjust to Jayden’s new lifestyle.
Jayden has recently started insulin
pump therapy and continues to
be very active. He loves being
outside and playing sports.
