BEARSPAW COUNTRY CLUB THE MISSION STATEMENT OF BEARSPAW COUNTRY CLUB To provide a premium, privately owned golf club, dedicated to the benefit of its shareholders and members, at a cost acceptable to the shareholders. 61 Hamilton Drive Calgary Alberta T3R 1A2 3
Bearspaw Country Club is one of Calgary’s premium private golf courses. Located just out‐
side of Calgary’s NW communities, Bearspaw recently celebrated its 25th year anniversary. Its location provides 20 minute access from downtown Calgary and with the completion of the ring road, will allow quick access from many Calgary communities. The clubhouse and golf course provide panoramic mountain views weaving through a series of streams, lakes and acreage living. The golf club has very active men’s/ladies committees and an excellent junior golf program. Bearspaw has had both ladies and men members competing at the City, Provincial, National and International level. Recent Bearspaw members champions; Alberta Provincial Champions like Ryan Yip (2002 Men’s), Meaghan Leblanc (2003 Junior), Stuart Nicholson (2007 Senior) and Scott Stiles (2008 Men’s) are only some of the success stories. On the international stage, Ryan Yip played in the quarter finals of the Men’s US Amateur in 2005 and followed up with a semifinal finish in 2006. Meaghan, Scott and Ryan all played at Bearspaw as junior members. Bearspaw has hosted the Canadian Mid‐Amateur, Alberta Men’s Seniors and hosted the 2011 ATB Financial Classic Golf Tournament. If you are interested in an equity golf membership for you and your family, come out and visit us for a tour of our clubhouse and golfing facilities. Board of Directors 4
Welcome to Bearspaw Country Club and thank you for considering our club as a place to call your home. This membership package has been designed to provide you with a taste of what your future might look like if you were to make the decision to join us. Bearspaw Country Club stretches out over 200 acres of countryside on the outer limits of the City of Calgary. The Club and golf course are ranked amongst the finest in the province of Alberta. Over 800 members make Bearspaw their summer home. We are pleased to be considered as a place where you might find the type of membership and recreational opportunities you are seeking. Whether your interest lies with a family, an individual, or a corporate focus, we believe we have the programs and amenities to suit your needs. While we hope it provides you with enough insights to give considerable thought to your decision, we are also available at anytime to meet you and discuss your questions and comments. Bearspaw Country Club is a member owned private golf club and membership of Bearspaw requires a purchase of a share. There are currently 500 shareholders of the club. The Club is currently accepting applications for our waiting list as well as full equity membership of the club. Each year, an average of 20 shares have been sold. Upon joining the waiting list a non‐
refundable deposit is paid and this deposit is included in any subsequent share purchase. An individual on the wait list is not compelled to purchase a share when it is offered unless the asking price is at the club minimum share price, currently $30,000. Typically, most shares are offered at a premium. The club currently offers a financing scheme for the share purchase. This requires an initial payment (for a share at the club minimum price of $30,000) of $10,000, a second payment of $10,000 on the following 1st March and a final payment of $10,000 on the second 1st March following the share purchase. Interest would be charged at the rate applying to the club’s line of credit charge. 5
Full details of the share purchase process at Bearspaw can be obtained upon request. Bearspaw Country Club is governed by the committee system with the direction of the Board of Directors . The supporting committees play a major role in providing input and guidance to the Board regarding policies and procedures. The Roster Book is provided as an important source of information to the membership. In addition to these publications several other forms of communication are available. These include the “Bear Facts”; an annual guide to events, policies and guidelines regarding golf and golf activities; a monthly newsletter providing information and updates regarding club activities, events and policies; the Club’s website www.golfbearspaw.com and our bulletin boards situated throughout the club. 6
Imagine the traditions of a great country club only twenty minutes from the heart of downtown, where deer, coyotes, hawks and owls still call home. Opened in 1987, Bearspaw Country Club is a true testament of how the environment and development can co‐exist in peaceful harmony. Bearspaw is a member owned, equity share club which prides itself in its golf course, host for the 2009 Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship. The golf course winds itself through the coulees and plateaus of northwest Calgary and presents the player with a wide diversity of terrain and elevation changes. A comprehensive practice area, including a driving range, putting and chipping greens, are located adjacent to the first tee and Clubhouse. Utilizing five sets of tee boxes (including combo tees) allows our golfers a challenging game from 5190 yds to 6777 yds. The course, which was designed by Bill Nevis in 1983, has a topographical layout that has golfers playing through tree‐lined fairways with water features on 14 of our holes. The Pro shop will provide all your golfing needs from tee times to lessons along with the latest in merchandise and teaching requirements. Unlike other clubs, our focus is on the Golf and providing the best possible conditions for your game. The club boasts manicured bent grass greens, which are arguably the best in Alberta. A golf course is truly a reflection of its membership. Bearspaw has a very active club member‐
ship with 500 members, 200 spouses, and some 100 juniors. The Club prides itself on its Ladies Day, Men’s Night, Junior programs and Club tournaments. 7
There is something for everyone on the menu in the bright and open lounge. Enjoy a full‐
course meal in the dining area with spectacular views of the Rockies. Snack bar service is available on the lower level next to the patio area. One of Calgary’s finest golf courses, great food with spectacular views, service dedicated to making every member and guest feel special, all in a picturesque setting only minutes from downtown Calgary. Come in and see why you should become an equity member at Bearspaw Country Club. 8
