Calm Waters Rowing Hosts and Coaches
Charlotte Hollings and John Dunn have spent more than 70 years immersed in the sport of rowing. Charlotte began in high school while
John first picked up an oar as a freshman at Cornell University. Both have rowed on the U.S. National Team, winning several
international medals. Charlotte’s coaching career has taken her west to Stanford University before heading back east to Boston
University and then Cornell University. John remained close to home, coaching at his alma mater, first as the frosh lightweight coach,
then varsity lightweight and finally varsity women, for 18 years. It was at Cornell that Charlotte and John first met and then married in
1995. In 1998, Charlotte and John tried something a little different and started coaching sculling at a master's camp. They enjoyed it so
much that they immediately set out to start a sculling camp of their own. Calm Waters Rowing is the culmination of two years of
extensive searching and planning.

Session 1 (Sweep) Aug. 17-23, 2013
Session 2 (Sculling) Aug. 24-27, 2013
The Northeast Rowing Center provides the opportunity in Session 1 for junior rowers & coxswains to obtain professional, personal instruction to
significantly improve technical rowing/coxing ability. In Session 2 both junior & master scullers or rowers will attend a shorter more intense sculling
program. The highest quality master coaches, facilities, equipment and organization are assembled to provide the best program possible. Extremely high
standards are maintained.
Session 1 (Sweep)
AUGUST 17-23, 2013
Rowing Program (Session 1 ~ $975.00) - For boys and girls ages 15-19 with at least one season's experience. Rowers are categorized by
experience/age into groups of eight and assigned to a Master Coach. This produces an effective student-to-coach ratio of eight-to-one. The Master
Coach is on the water with only one crew at a time.
Session 1 (Coxing)
AUGUST 17-23, 2013
Coxing Program (Session 1 ~ $975.00) - For experienced coxswains. A Coxswain's Master Coach will administer specific instruction for coxswains. In
addition to participating in all of the events that the rowers attend (on the water, video reviews and clinics), each coxswain will attend off-the-water
coxing sessions. Detailed instruction covering topics such as boat-handling, workout skills, racing skills, cox/coach relationships, etc., will be
discussed. This is an opportunity for coxswains to obtain valuable detailed instruction from the most experienced coaching staff available.
Session 2 (Sculling)
AUGUST 24-27, 2013
Sculling Program (Session 2 ~ $650.00) - For junior (age 15-19) & master rowers with at least one season of sculling or rowing experience. This smaller
more intensive co-ed program will include three rows per day along with clinics to teach participants about rigging, technique, and cross-training.

THE FLORIDA ROWING CENTER
Wellington, FL
www.floridarowingcenter.com
Special Announcement: A new book release: Sculling in a Nutshell by FRC Coach, Gordon Hamilton. Visit FRC News.
The Florida Rowing Center, established in 1985, offers sculling instruction for competitors and beginners. The center operates from mid-December to May
attracting experienced and beginner scullers from the United States, Canada, and Europe. Professional coaching, first rate facilities, and a protected 1.5mile long lake in sunny Palm Beach County make the Florida Rowing Center winter’s premier sculling destination.
Masters, scholastic, elite, and recreational rowers will improve their single sculling skills on Lake Wellington through lessons with our coaches, by practicing
drills, and with daily individual video critique of technique. Our coaches place a priority on a personal approach and creating a positive learning
environment. Small groups allow each sculler to work closely with our staff to accomplish their goals for the session.
There is a choice of accomodations near the center. Minutes from quality beaches, an international airport, and major thoroughfares, the Florida Rowing
Center is conveniently located. Read through our web site and find out more about our programs, location, coaching staff, equipment, and schedule.
A visit to the Florida Rowing Center is a perfect choice if you want to improve your sculling skills for competition or recreation.
DAILY SCHEDULE
Each 7-hour day of single sculling instruction begins at 7:30 am and concludes at 2:30 pm. Daily sessions begin at 7:30 am. The first row is a 120-minute
session with dockside instruction, individual coaching, and videotaping. Our coaches work with each sculler from a launch or rowing shell, and each sculler
is videotaped.
Following the morning row, students and coaches enjoy a leisurely hot breakfast at a nearby café. The group then goes to a classroom for 1 to 2 hours of
detailed video review and discussion of technique. Following the classroom instruction, scullers return to the lake for a second coached session on the water
focused on practice, drills, and individual attention. The second session lasts 90 to120 minutes. A double scull is also available for use upon request.
Sessions start promptly at 7:30 am. Please arrive on time. Parking is available in the Wellington Community Center parking lot, rest room facilities are in the
community center pool house next to the boathouse, and a lock box is on site for keeping backpacks and valuables when scullers are on the water.
