15th century Misericórdias Hospital has given rise to this

Abdegas — this was the name of the county now known
as Ourém. The change of name was due to the expulsion
of the Muslim population in 1136 in the reign of King Afonso
Henriques. Ourém seduces with its history, faith, nature,
gastronomy and hospitality. It was here, in the Iria Cove,
where the three little shepherds claimed to have seen Our Lady
of Fátima, in the same spot where today one of the world’s
most visited and venerated sanctuaries lies. Every year,
the Sanctuary receives more than five million visitors
— tourists, devotees and pilgrims — from all over the world.

ao Kartódromo Internacional de Leiria e escolha o motor
que mais lhe acelera o coração.
The charming streets of the village, together with the colorful
flowers embellishing them, are an invitation to pleasant walks
or bike tours. A different way to know the regional trails
is while riding a donkey, that important ally of all those working
the land — to be sure, a very special way to experience Ourém.
For a different perspective of the earth, one can descend to the
depths and admire the Mira D’Aire Coves, in 15Km distance from
Fátima. From speleology to speed — if you are a lover of strong
emotions and adrenaline, Ourém has also something for you.
