Turks and Caicos – Beautiful by Nature
Are you looking for winter getaway
ideas or perhaps a location for a
destination wedding? The Turks and
Caicos Islands might be just the spot!
The Turks and Caicos, located 550
miles southeast of Miami, consist of 40
different islands and cays, only eight of
which are inhabited. The islands of the
Turks and Caicos are almost as diverse as
its people. From the main tourist center
of Providenciales to the quiet and
tranquil islands of North and Middle
Caicos to the historic capital island of
Grand Turk, each one offers a different
experience and a unique character
but all offer year round great climate,
beaches and underwater activities.
The only true way to experience
the Turks and Caicos Islands is to visit
each island in the entire chain. This is
probably why visitors come back to
the Turks and Caicos on a regular basis.
Most of the islands are only about 10 to
25 minutes by air from Providenciales
and many can be reached by boat, too.
There are also regular ferries from North
to Middle Caicos.
You can easily find your dream
accommodations on the islands:
from magnificent villas and secluded
hideaways to award-winning luxury
hotels and all-inclusive resorts. Many
hotels and resorts work with dive and
tour operators so that excursions,
golfing and dive packages can be
tailored to your desires.
If a wedding or honeymoon is on
your horizon, the pristine beaches,
deserted cays, sparkling turquoise
waters, refreshing breezes, starlit
nights, excellent hotels and the happy,
friendly people of the Turks and Caicos
Islands make up the perfect romantic
destination.
Experiencing the island cuisine is
part of the appeal of visiting such a
diverse destination. Most hotels offer
wonderful dining experiences, plus
visitors are encouraged to go and
explore the local and international
cuisine with nearly 70 local restaurants
throughout the islands. In fact, the fifth
annual Caribbean Food & Wine Festival
is scheduled to be held in the Turks
and Caicos this year, featuring world
renowned chefs working side-by-side
with local culinary talent.
Whether it’s ideal weather and
relaxation or on-the-go island activities
or distinctive cuisine you are seeking,
contact one of our travel advisors
today to start planning your trip to the
Beautiful by Nature islands, Turks and
Caicos.

3ISRAEL This is a photo from my recent trip
to Israel. My husband and I are floating in the
Dead Sea, which is the lowest place on earth.
The water was incredibly warm, actually hot,
and felt more like a Jacuzzi. There is so much
salt in the water, you can’t sink! Our hands are
up in the air, our legs are crossed and we are not doing anything to keep
ourselves afloat. The Israelis call this the unsinkable swim!
After the swim, many of us covered ourselves with the black mud from
the banks of the Dead Sea. Scientists can’t explain why, but this special
mud is loaded with essential minerals that are very beneficial to the skin
and body. From Barbara Belsky – Sharon, MA
3INDIA I encountered these two snake charmers
at the entrance of the Amber Palace near the city of
Jaipur in India. As the gentleman played his pungi
flute, the snake’s head appeared out of the basket
and started weaving side to side, seeming to
dance with the lively melody. The snake charmer’s
assistant had a few different instruments, which
he would shake, each bringing a different movement from the snake. It
was very interesting to watch! The number of snake charmers is in steady
decline, so I was thankful to have had this first-hand opportunity to view this
mesmerizing event. From Mary Kelley – Taylor, MI

Hola
Mexico!
Planning a sun-and-fun vacation but finding it hard to decide where to go?
Here’s the inside scoop on some of our favorite Mexico destinations!
Huatulco
Pronounced wah-tool-koh, this is one
of the most unspoiled and relaxed resort
destinations you’ll find in Mexico and is
sure to capture your heart. Located on
the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca,
its southern location delivers exceptional
weather with an average temperature of
82°F and sunshine nearly 330 days a year!
The centerpieces of Huatulco’s charm
are undoubtedly its nine Pacific bays,
encompassing no less than 36 beaches
and numerous inlets and coves, each with
its own unique character and ecology.
Fifteenth-century pirates frequented these
secluded bays and it’s easy to see why.
Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo
Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, while
located just four miles apart, each offers
a completely different experience for
visitors. Ixtapa features high-rise hotels,
big resorts, upscale shopping and appeals
to folks seeking adventure vacations
and outdoor recreation. In contrast,
Zihuatanejo maintains its small-town feel
and can best be described as a beach
village with cobblestone streets, quaint
cafés, and markets that will charm her
visitors. Together, Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo
share 16 miles of beautiful golden beaches
that are bound to please sun seekers. It’s
like having two vacations in one!
Los Cabos
Located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula
and nestled between the Pacific Ocean
and the Sea of Cortez, Los Cabos is made
up of two towns - cosmopolitan Cabo
San Lucas and colonial style San José del
Cabo. The two towns are connected by a
resort area known as The Corridor, where
some of Baja’s most beautiful beaches
are located, backed by the dramatic
desert landscape. Whale watching, hanggliding, snorkeling, antiquing, fishing,
world-class golf courses and top-of-theline spas are highlights for travelers to
this vacation haven.
Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit
Framed by the Sierra Madre
Mountains, Puerto Vallarta, once a
tiny fishing village, offers the laid back
feeling of “Old Mexico” with all the
modern conveniences. This Pacific Coast
destination is a wonderful combination
of sand, sunshine and Mexican charm
at its best. Visitors won’t want to miss
the seafront Malecon boardwalk that
features open-air cafés, boutiques, art
galleries, and active nightlife.
Just north of Puerto Vallarta lies the
Riviera Nayarit, with miles of pristine
coastline dotted with dozens of coastal
towns and boasting rugged mountain
peaks, nature sanctuaries, golden sand
and palm-fringed beaches. The area
offers a great selection of adventures
such as surfing, bird watching, whale
watching, archeological sites and even
camping. This area is sure to provide
visitors with an unforgettable Mexican
experience!
Riviera Maya
South of Cancun, stretching 100 miles
from Puerto Morelos to Tulum, lies the
Riviera Maya, home to some of the best
all-inclusive resorts you’ll find anywhere
in the world. Renowned for its white-sand
beaches and ancient ruins, the Riviera
Maya offers something for everyone. The
natural aquarium at Xel-Ha provides an
excellent interaction with sea life, Playa
del Carmen features restaurants and
trendy shops along the waterfront, and
the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza,
which is one of the New Seven Wonders
of the World, displays amazing technical
feats from a thousand years ago.

Family
Cruising
Cruising with children or multigenerational families is more popular than ever and
cruise lines are working quickly to meet the demands. In addition to creating better
spaces on ships just for kids, cruise lines are paying more attention to adults-only and
quiet areas in an effort to woo extended families. And river cruise companies are not
forgetting about this important customer segment either, with many featuring familyfriendly departures offering customized itineraries and activities catering to parents
and children.
Here is a sample of the highlights and
features your family will enjoy on a
cruise vacation!
• More attention and space for teens
and tweens. Most new ships are
giving tweens (ages 12 to 14) their
own facilities. Separate teens-only
programs incorporate a range of shipwide options from spa treatments to
shore excursions, and most programs
allow them to come and go freely.
• “Megaship” has taken on a new
meaning. Bigger ships offer more
space, more activities and some pretty
amazing features that would have
seemed unthinkable several years
ago. Where rock walls and miniature
golf once were thought extravagant,
kids now have access to bowling
alleys, elaborate water parks with
massive slides, ropes courses, bumper
cars, surfing simulators and outdoor
movies.
• Family river cruises in Europe
are soaring in popularity. Unique
elements of sailings geared specifically
for families may include medieval
games, dinners at unique castles,
chocolate tastings, bicycle rides and
more!
• Entertainment has been taken to
a new level with themed cruises.
Families can opt for a “DreamWorks
Experience” on Royal Caribbean, during
which they’ll get to meet characters
like Shrek, and Po, the Kung Fu Panda.
• More outdoor spaces are ideal
for families. New ships offer casual
outdoor dining and outdoor play
areas. Plus, dining options and times
for families are increasing. When you’re
traveling with kids, set dining times
and show times can be tough. Some
ships are accommodating families
with more flexible dining times, and
special menus for tykes are offered in
a variety of dining venues.
When you book your family cruise
with our expert travel advisors, we can

of your family. In addition, as a member
of Virtuoso, we are often able to offer
exclusive amenities to enhance your
cruising experience.

Picture Perfect Prague
The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague, in the Czech Republic, make it
an ideal spot to include on your next Europe itinerary. Prague is universally considered
to be one of the most picture-perfect cities on the continent. Romanesque chapels
and cellars, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque palaces and gardens, worldly Art Nouveau
buildings, and unique Cubist architecture make it a place with no parallel.
Although one of the largest cities in Europe, the compact, historic city center can
easily be seen on foot and walking tours are readily available. Plan on spending several
nights in Prague so you can take in all the highlights of this great city, including:
Old Town: In the expansive Old Town square is the 14th-century Gothic Church of
Our Lady before Tyn and other landmark buildings. The Powder Tower, which serves
as a gate into the Old Town, is one of the few remaining portions of the old city
walls. Construction was started in the 15th century but not finished until the 19th
century. Also located here is the Old Town Hall with the splendid Astronomical Clock.
Considered a wonder of the world in the 15th century, it shows the time of day and the
current positions of the sun and moon. On the hour, Christ and the Apostles appear in
windows above the clock.
Charles Bridge: This iconic, 14th-century bridge, the oldest bridge in Prague,
connects the Old Town and Lesser Town. Both sides of the bridge are lined with lamps
and religious statues that were added over the next 400 years. It’s a great place for a
stroll to check out the statues, get some really great views of Prague Castle, sample
some food or buy a painting. In the evening, the bridge is truly magical.
Prague Castle: Dating originally back to the ninth century and undergoing several
major renovations, this castle is one of the largest fortresses in the world and
EX P L O RE A L A S KA

serves double duty as the residence of the Czech president and as a popular tourist
destination. While at the castle, don’t miss St. Vitus Cathedral, which is considered one
of the highlights with its beautiful architecture, the tomb of “Good King” Wenceslas,
and the Czech crown jewels. A visit to this complex can easily take an entire day
depending on how thoroughly you wish to explore!
The Beer: Czechs are known for producing some of the best beers in the world,
including the legendary pilsner draft. Prague’s many pubs and beer halls offer visitors
a chance to taste local culture at its finest. Be sure to sample traditional Klobasy (grilled
sausage) and dumplings and wash them down with local Czech drafts like Pilsner
Urquell, Budvar and Staropramen.

Wellness Travel:
Stay Healthy, Stay Happy
What better getaway could there be than one where you feel better when you
get home than you felt when you left? That big, busy trip where you explore all of
Australia in 14 days or visit a huge theme park for a week can be a great experience,
but there’s no denying that sometimes you need a vacation after your vacation. Say
hello to the “wellness vacation”!
Spas and wellness resorts can be found near and far. Cater to your wanderlust and
visit a resort in Vietnam, India or Turkey. If you don’t feel like packing your passport,
Arizona and California host a wealth of spas and resorts. Or think about your “happy
place”: where ever it is, there’s bound to be the perfect wellness program for you
there! Let our travel advisors help you discover the ideal resort for your favorite form
of relaxation.
Wellness travel comes in many forms: fitness, yoga, culinary, detox, spiritual, weight
loss and even sleep health. The styles can easily be combined to form the focus of
your trip or you can include a single activity as part of a vacation to enhance your
experience. Exercise and weight loss are top concerns for many people. Nature and
adventure excursions are increasingly popular. Nearly every interest involving mind,
body, and spirit can be engaged in wellness travel.
The wellness experience can be as unique as the individual:
• Mountain retreats offer daily treks that include health coaches during the
day and spa treatments afterwards
• New Age wellbeing consultants provide personal growth workshops, aura
readings, meditation and feng shui
• Detox Mayan-style in a cocoon of herb-infused sheets followed by an
exfoliation treatment with honey and salt
• Total wellness programs offer a combination of fitness, nutrition, and
behavioral health to refresh and rejuvenate

ASK THE EXPERT...
Q. I’m planning my first cruise and
I’m already thinking about clothes.
Do I need to pack differently for a
cruise than I would pack for a beach
vacation?
A. You may find that you want to pack
many of the same items for a cruise
that you would for a beach resort but
you’ll need to take into account your
cruise destination and your cruise
line. You’ll definitely need more than
a swimsuit and shorts if you’re cruising
Alaska or Scandinavia! Here are a few
suggestions:
• Pack your swimsuit, a change of
clothes, and important medications
or toiletries in your carry-on bag. It
will take a while to get your luggage
from the plane to your stateroom and
this way you can enjoy the pool and
change for dinner if your bags aren’t
delivered right away.
• Know the dress code for your cruise
line. If there are formal nights, you’ll
want to pack fancy-wear for the
dining room. Not every cruise line
has formal nights, though, so no
sense packing the evening gown or
the tuxedo if you don’t really need it.
• If you have favorite toiletries that you
can’t live without, bring them along.
You’ll find soap and shampoo in the
stateroom but not necessarily spa
quality. Purchasing toiletries onboard
will be expensive.
• Pack clothes suitable for your
destination. If you’re cruising to
Mexico or Hawaii or the Caribbean,
beach wear is fine. If you’re cruising
to Alaska, plan for cool weather:
you’ll want to dress in layers. “Resortcasual” clothing is best for European
destinations where dress codes are a
little more strict.

All-Inclusive Vacations: Relax...It’s all included!
Looking for a truly stress-free
vacation? Let us suggest an all-inclusive
resort. All-inclusive vacations are among
the most popular options available to
fun-seeking travelers today and they
can’t be beat for sheer convenience and
ease!
The moment you begin selecting
your travel arrangements, you’ll see
how easy it is to budget for your trip
since you’ll know nearly all of your
costs upfront. Items that are offered
under the all-inclusive umbrella—all for
one price—include meals, beverages
(both alcoholic and non-alcoholic),
endless activities, entertainment, and
more! But many resorts go above and
beyond what you might expect, offering
a wide range of specialty restaurants
serving gourmet cuisine plus abundant
international buffets, premium-brand
alcoholic beverages, 24-hour room
service, butler service, supervised kids’
clubs and world-class spas. Some
resorts are even set on private beaches
that are off-limits to non-guests. And if
you want to explore the culture outside
of your resort, you’ll find tour companies
right in the lobby of your hotel with
local personnel who can arrange for an
off-site excursion.
Step number one when planning
your getaway is selecting the right allinclusive resort, with the amenities that
will enhance your overall experience.
Will you be traveling with your family,
making a stellar kids’ club the number
one priority? Is your vacation a romantic
getaway for just the two of you, so an
adults-only hotel is essential? Or is an
ultra-luxury retreat, where you can be
completely pampered, your top priority?
Do you envision something small and
intimate or is your preference a large
resort that may include everything from
shopping arcades to golf courses and
wave pools to discos?
We can take the mystery out
of selecting the right resort so all
you’ll need to do is pack your bags,
relax, and indulge on your vacation,
because…it’s all included!
