Jubilee Year of Mercy
Año Jubilar de la Misericordia
Feast of the Bap sm of the Lord
Fi ngly, this Jubilee Year of
Mercy is also the Lec onary’s
Year of Luke, for Luke’s Gospel
highlights God’s mercy
in finding the lost, healing the
sick, restoring the broken,
comfor ng the sorrowful,
forgiving the sinner through
Jesus’ ministry. But before doing,
Luke’s Jesus is always praying. As
prac cal moderns programmed
to measure worth by
produc vity, we ins nc vely
appreciate the Jubilee’s call to
embrace the prac cal challenges
of our bap sm. But today
Luke focuses not on Jesus being
bap zed, but on Jesus praying
a er bap sm. So must we pray to
become the disciples we
are called to be, that the Spirit
empower us to do what disciples
are called to do. Imita ng Jesus’
openness to the Spirit will enable
us to cooperate with the grace
that transforms us into “beloved
sons [and daughters] . . . in whom
the Father is well pleased,” living
out, in this Jubilee Year of Mercy,
the extraordinary poten al of our
bap sm.
10 de enero de 2016
Fiesta del Bau smo del Señor
Que providencial que este Año
Jubilar de la Misericordia coincida
con el año C del Leccionario, que
es cuando toca leer los domingos
el Evangelio de Lucas el cual
subraya la misericordia de Dios,
encontrando lo perdido, sanando
a los enfermos, restableciendo lo
separado, consolando a los
tristes, perdonando al pecador
por medio del ministerio de
Jesús. ¡Pero antes de que esto
suceda, Lucas presenta a Jesús
orando! Como prác cas
modernas programadas para
medir el costo por medio de la
produc vidad, nosotros
intui vamente apreciamos el
llamado del Jubileo incluyendo
los desa os prác cos de nuestro
Bau smo. Pero hoy Lucas se
concentra no en que Jesús se
bau za, sino en Jesús orando
después de su bau zo. Así que
debemos orar para conver rnos
en los discípulos a los que
estamos llamados a ser, que el
Espíritu pueda empoderarnos
hacer lo que los discípulos
estamos llamados a ser. Imitando
la apertura de Jesús al Espíritu
nos permi rá cooperar con la
gracia que nos transforma en
“amados hijos e hijas” “en quien
el Padre se complace”, viviendo
en este Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia, el extraordinario
potencial de nuestro Bau smo.
