Dear Members:
S
o far, this year, the Board and Management have made several positive deci-
sions to bring the Club & Course back to the prestigious condition it should be in.
The courses have been in great playing condition during the dry season. Further
planning and work have been taking place to withstand the rainy season
approaching. Refer to John Cope’s article for more details.
Similarly, the Clubhouse has undergone several important maintenance and
up-grades, such as new air conditioning, paint work, carpet changes, and
kitchen refrigeration, to improve the Members and Guests enjoyment. One huge
benefit from the newly installed solar assisted air condition in the men’s locker
room is the 40% savings in electricity.
Looking ahead, further improvements will take place to prepare for the next
Resorts World Manila Masters this coming November. We are soon expecting an
an-nouncement where an additional new sponsor will come in, which will result
to a more generous amount for the prize money. This will help attract more high
profile players and place Southwoods on the spotlight.
You also, no doubt, may have noticed the on-going development of sites around
the Club. Southwoods City is on the rise, including the Southwoods mall, office
buildings, shopping centers, and residential areas and apartments. Because of
this, Club share prices are rising.
Finally, the Annual Stockholders Meeting is taking place on August 27, 2014.
We encourage you to participate and attend the meeting. You can also send in a
substitute if you will not be available on that date.

Ground Director’s Course Updates
T
he conditions of the golf courses are continuing to improve and hopefully everyone has been enjoying a more consistent level of maintenance
quality. We will continue to work hard to keep this going, and have planned
some cultural practices and other projects to further improve the playability.
Here are some of the things that we have recently completed or are planning to do in the coming months.
• All fairways have been aerified, verticut and topdressed earlier this year
in our continuing effort to improve turf density, and the fairway’s ability
to handle the heavy rains. We will aerify and topdress again right after
the Invitational and hopefully one more time before the end of the year.
• The Masters greens on hole 1 and 10 have been grassed with certified
TifEagle sprigs from Georgia in the United States and are growing in
nicely. This commences our efforts to re-establish the original perimeter of the greens on the Masters course and to change the turf from
the mutated Tifdwarf to TifEagle. They are now open and will settle in
with the current rain.
• The dry season was difficult due to some problems with some of our
deep wells and leaks in our lake liners, especially on the Masters
course, but this has been rectified recently. With the coming rainy season, we should be able to get all of the lakes up to design elevation and
then keep them there even during the dry season next year
• We will be starting the Legends course greenside bunker rehabilitation
as well as improving the drainage on holes #9 and #10 of the Legends
course.
• We have installed a bypass cart path from 16 to 18 Masters for better
traffic flow during shotgun starts and will install a bypass cart path in
order to reduce the amount of traffic through the tee area of hole #1
Masters.
Our equipment purchase program is well underway with many new and
used pieces of equipment added to our fleet. We will continue to bring in
more equipment through 2015 to achieve our desired fleet numbers and
then move to a more conservative replacement program after that.
There has been a lot of discussion regarding the speed of the greens or
“stimpmeter” reading of the greens as a barometer of the quality of the
putting surface. We have changed this philosophy of maintenance and have
adopted a program to achieve the most consistent roll of the golf ball rather
than trying to chase a stimpmeter number. I think that everyone will agree
that a true roll of the golf ball is more important than making sure that they
are fast (although they have been very fast these past few months as well).
Unrepaired ball marks and unraked bunkers can quickly affect the quality of
the golfing experience so please help us by making sure that your caddies
are doing their job properly. We have started a training program to help
them with their technique so hopefully together; we can improve the playing
conditions for all of our members.

6th PAL INTER CLUB TOURNAMENT 2014
Congratulations to the Club’s Team for earning 2nd place in
the Regular Founders of the 67th PAL Interclub Golf Tournament that happened last February 24 to March 1, 2014, held
at Bacolod City.
Repainting of Main Clubhouse
(Back Portion)
To complete the repainting job of the whole clubhouse exterior, the back
portion of the main clubhouse has also been repainted.
This project was done in-house and was carried out using the same
materials and paint finish, maintaining the existing colour of the building.
Stretching Machines
Good news to Members and Guests!
You can now enjoy the Stretching Machines in both Ladies’ and Men’s Lockers
Just a reminder: Remember to warm up properly before engaging in any
weight resistance training like stretching.
40% Savings on Electricity Validated Through
Installation of Electric Sub-meters
The Solar Assisted Air-conditioning System installed at the Men’s Locker
claims that it can save 30% to 50% on electricity cost for air-conditioning.
To validate the savings as claimed, we have installed electric sub-meters at
the left and right wing of the Men’s locker.
The sub-meter readings show that for January to April this year, we have
achieved an average of 40% savings on electricity for air-conditioning at
the Men’s Locker of the Main Clubhouse.
Replacement
of Carpet at the Mulligan Bar
In coordination with the club’s interior designer, the Mulligan bar is now
dressed up with a new floor carpet using “alias” roll/broadloom
carpet style.
