On behalf of the Lawndale High School faculty and staff, I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year. Last year,
we spoke of unprecedented change in our district. And now we see the fruits of our labor begin to pay off. We
spoke of the way in which people view change, as well. No matter the initial trepidation, the changes undergone
at Lawndale have been done so with one thought in mind – the well being of the child. While physical changes
are apparent on the Lawndale campus that which remains constant, is the rich tradition dedicated staff provides to
honor the code of providing academic excellence.
I have enjoyed a twenty-five year career. For well over a decade, I have lead instruction at some of the finest high
schools in California. This year, my inaugural year at Lawndale High School, I can say with e conviction, that I
am the happiest I have ever been in my administrative career. It is easy to be a high school principal when you
have wonderful students, caring parents and a dedicated, child-centered staff.
We are a comprehensive, award winning, college preparatory high school, enhancing the lives of children by
personalizing education. Our counseling services have expanded to ensure that students receive the quality
guidance they deserve. The growth of “academies” and special programs on our campus serves as a testament to
our commitment of upholding the district vision to provide students with both academic and career-technical
skills in order to give them the necessary tools to matriculate into, and experience success in a four-year
university and/or obtain an industry job from a variety of career pathways. Currently, we are expanding course
offerings in The Biomedical Careers Technology Academy, The Academy of Media Arts, AVID (Advancement
Via Individual Determination), and the Marine Science Academy. In addition to the existing programs, we have
also begun work to form of The Cardinal Academy which will focus on a mentoring and guidance approach to
student success. All of our programs provide pathways for students to choose a focus and personalize their high
school experience. These projects-based small learning communities foster relationships that will impact
students’ lives and influence important future decision-making.
Lawndale High School, Home of the Cardinals has so much to offer such a deserving student body. I welcome
and strongly encourage all of you to be an active member of the Cardinal family. Contrary to popular belief, for
your sons and daughters, this is the most critical time of their life and they need their parents to fully support their
education. To that end, an educational institution is only as good as the parent and community members who
support it. Whether through athletics, clubs, academy advisory committees, PTSA, or student government, there
is an avenue for every student and parent to have a voice in the vision and progress of our school. I look forward
to another outstanding, productive year.
And as always…go Cardinals!
