AN AMERICAN IN WARSAW
AN AMERICAN IN WARSAW
czyli Angielski Informator Kulturalny
„Hi, my name is Steve and I’m American. I’m coming to Warsaw on 22nd November, that means
exactly on Thanksgiving Day – just on the same day when my ancestors celebrated their first year
spent in America, I’m coming back to Europe (funny thing, isn’t it?).
I’m going to study arts. Why in Warsaw, you’ll probably ask. Well, everybody wants to be an
artist in the US and I don’t want to be one of them. I love new challenges, I’ve heard people are
nice in here and – it’s much cheaper here than in my country.
I’m very much interested in your country and especially in your culture, I must say I’m a real
culture-vulture. However, I’ve got one problem – I can’t speak a word in Polish. Could you,
please, help me a bit and recommend to me some cultural events in your city which are accessible
for me?
Thank you in advance!“

Girl“ and „You Are My Lucky Star“. We’re sure you’re familiar
with the play itself, so you won’t mind the actors performing in
Polish.

Royal Castle in Warsaw (4. Zamkowa Street )
Runs until Jan. 27, 2013
Are you interested in our culture? Great! They’ve just opened a
historical exhibition guiding you through the period of the greatest
prosperity of our country. The exhibition focuses on the period when
the most of Central Europe was ruled by the Polish dynasty of
Jagiellons and their close relatives, namely from the coronation of
King Władysław Jagiełło of Poland in 1386 to the death of
Sigismund Augustus in 1572.
The exhibition explores the dinasty’s impact on Europe through its artistic legacy ranging from
painting, sculpture, goldsmithing and other arts. The items on show come from different Eurpean
countries which used to be under the Jagiellonian reign (present-day Lithouania, Poland, the Czech
Republic, Hungary, Germany and Croatia).
The exhibition is an international project prepared in cooperation by National Museum and the
Royal Castle with their peer organizations in the Czech Republic and Germany. It was already
shown in the Czech Republic between May and September and will be shown in Germany from
March to June 2013.
Invisible Exhibition
Millennium plaza, 123A, Jerozolimskie Ave.
Open until 31 Dec 2012
Are you overwhelmed with history? Overloaded with new
facts to remember? Try something different.
The Invisible Exhibition is a unique interactive journey to an invisible world of those who cannot
see. In total darkness, led by a blind or partially sighted person, you will struggle to find your way
through seven differently furnished rooms. This journey will change your perception, you’ll find
out yourself that the world experienced with the use of only four senses and without the key one –
the sight – can be still beautiful. It can be an important personal discovery in our contemporary
world dominated by images.
The exhibition has a social dimension as well, bringing together healthy people and those deprived
of the most important sense and making them understand each other.
VooVoo on concert at Fabryka Trzciny
14, Otwocka Street, at 8 p.m. 25th Nov, 2012
Sooner or later, you should be introduced to Polish music. VooVoo is a
legendary Polish rock band formed in 1985. The core of the band are
Wojciech Waglewski and Pospieszalski brothers. Voo Voo debuted in 1985
at Jarocin Festival, which was one of the biggest and most important rock
music festivals in the 1980s Europe, by far the biggest festival of alternative
music in the Central and Eastern Europe, and it is held until now every year
in July.
VooVoo have just released a new CD entitled “Nowa Płyta” (New LP).
They’re joined by a new drummer, Michal Bryndal. Their music seems to be
mature now, but the band haven’t given up their old style and their music
still shows a clear connection with their roots. Therefore, the new CD can be
a good introduction for those who have never heard them before.
The venue of the concert is worth seeing itself. Fabryka Trzciny is an ancient factory manufacturing
marmelade and canned food. It is located in Praga district, on the right side of the Vistula river.
Fabryka Trzciny is now a vibrating art centre.
