An enthusiastic group of cyclists met at Jim
Archdekin Recreation Centre to participate in
the first annual Bike the Creek event and cycle
a course through trails along Etobicoke Creek.
The goal of the event was to make local
residents aware of the Etobicoke Creek trail,
natural and cultural heritage features that can
be observed along the trail and to encourage
active transportation. Participants were given a
“Passport” and a choice of three lengths of
trail to explore, including a 10 km family fun
ride, 30 km intermediate ride and 40 km
advanced ride. Interpretive environmental
stations were set up for riders to stop and
learn about features of this green space. Their
“Passports” were stamped and they continued
along the trail. Upon completion of the ride,
participants were treated to music, a barbecue
lunch and a raffle with prizes courtesy of event
sponsors.
