1976 by Tim and Laura Mowrey, with a
vision to build a regional company
dedicated to service and customer

In 1981, Mowrey decided to become part

Tim Conkling, Vice-President of Capitol Elevator Company, Inc. in Sacramento, California.
Tim has been in the elevator industry for over thirty-two years. When Tim joined the elevator
industry, he began working in the field of service, installation, modernization and repair, he later
moved to inside sales. Tim is QEI Certified, as well as certified through NAESAI. He feels that
a major industry issue is keeping up with the advancement of technology. He thinks that NAEC
should stay ahead of the changing technologies not by just keeping in contact with the members
of the organization, but people in the industry. He thinks people need to remain informed about
what all NAEC has to offer. Tim enjoys boating, RV camping, restoring motorcycles and spending
time with his wife, Annabell, and their four children, Freddie, Sadie, Rory and Piper.

John Dodds, Chief Operating Officer of Kencor, Inc. Elevator Systems located in West Chester,
Pennsylvania. Dodds has over 18 years of elevator industry experience. He started his career as a
mechanic’s helper in 1998 working his way through many different field and management roles before
landing the position of C.O.O. Dodds holds several industry certifications including CET, CETS, QEI
and several state elevator mechanic licenses. He is actively involved with several industry associations
including NAESA International, EESF, and the Associated Builders and Contractors. Dodds has served as
the Chairman on the NAEC Certification Board for the last 3 years. Dodds believes that a major industry
issue, particularly with independent elevator owners and managers, is the continuous issue of workforce
development. “The traditional approach within our industry, for better or worse, has been incestuous.”
Dodds and his wife Karen, have 2 children, he enjoys golf, tennis and many other types of outdoor
sporting activities.
Gary Schuette, President of Midwest Elevator Company, Inc. located in St. Louis, Missouri. Gary
has been in the elevator industry for over 36 years. He began his career at Thyssen working in sales,
he later ended his time with Thyssen as a Regional VP. In November of 1998 Schuette started Midwest
Elevator Co, Inc. Midwest currently has offices located in St. Louis and in Kansas City. Gary has a
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He sees that
keeping pace with increasing safety standards as one of the biggest issues the industry faces, he stated
“The Association should continue to monitor regulatory changes regarding safety and update training
material, industry practices and guidelines accordingly.” Gary and his wife Dianne have three children; He
enjoys boating, water skiing and golf.
Nominated for the Supplier positions are:
Louis James “LJ” Blaiotta, CEO of Columbia Elevator Products Company, Inc. in Bridgeport,
Connecticut. LJ has been in the elevator industry for over thirty years, and has been the President
of Columbia for the last twenty years. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Post Graduate MBA from Lubin School of Business, Pace
University. He is currently participating as an instructor for the University of Connecticut. LJ has served
with various elevator industry organizations, including ASME’s A17.1 Code Committee, NAECs Exhibitor
Advisory Committee, NAECs Member Services Committee, CET/Education Task Force, as well as
the Elevator Advisory Committee to the City of New York’s Department of Buildings. LJ is a frequent
contributor to Elevator Worlds educational articles, and is also a well-known presenter at NAECs roundtables. Safe, quality products have always been Columbia’s commitment to the industry. LJ states “ I
believe the steps that NAEC has taken to provide safety programs, sales training programs, product
information, CET/CAT training are fantastic and that we need to continue to develop these programs
and push the industry to a safer, more educated workforce.” LJ and his wife Laura have one child, and he
enjoys traveling, theater, museums, symphonies, skiing and architecture.
Cornelius Walls, Vice-President of North American Operations for Formula Systems in Elk Grove
Village, Illinois. Cornelius has been a member of the elevator industry for twenty-one years. Cornelius
obtained his Bachelor Degree in Business from Robert Morris University. He has been a member
of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) for six years, he is the current President of the
Chicago Elevator Association, and also a member of CECA, IAEC and Elevator U. In his thirteen years
of membership with NAEC, he has served on numerous committees including the Regional Show
Committee and Membership Development Committee. Cornelius thinks a major industry issue is that
companies need to find a better way to provide services in a more efficient way in this competitive
economy. Cornelius stated “NAEC can help by providing economical tools to enhance technology within
companies. This can be done through seminars and educational sessions.” Cornelius and his wife Blanca
have two children; He enjoys spending time with his kids, watching football and traveling with his family.

EHC Global Founder and Chairman
Ron Ball Announces Retirement
After Forty Years of Leadership, Innovation and Growth in Lift Industry
June 01, 2016 (Oshawa, Canada) EHC Global (EHC), a leading
manufacturer of escalator and elevator components, announced
today the retirement of Ron Ball, the company’s Founder,
Chairman and Managing Director of EHC’s Eastern Region
operations. Ted Hornbein, EHC’s General Manager, Asia Pacific,
will assume the role of Managing Director, Eastern Region and
will report directly to Jeno Eppel, President and Chief Executive
Officer of EHC. Ron will continue to be involved in EHC as a
strategic advisor.
In 1977, Ron established Escalator Handrail Company in Ajax,
Canada, with only one employee, a long-term vision and an
international growth strategy. By the early 1980s, the company
had successfully expanded into the United States and had
established a presence in several international markets. Soon
after, Ron expanded the company’s global reach to Europe by
integrating EHC into the supply chains of larger firms and OEMs
and eventually establishing EHC’s first overseas manufacturing
company in Germany in 1992. In the mid-1990’s, anticipating
China’s increasing importance in international business and
rapidly expanding domestic market, Ron relocated to Shanghai
and successfully established EHC China, the company’s largest
operation to date. Over the past decade, EHC has continued
to grow its global footprint with the establishment of sales and

distribution centres in Brazil, Barbados, France, the United Kingdom
and Spain. In 2005, Jeno Eppel was appointed President and Chief
Executive Officer of EHC.

GAL has announced two key changes in their management

the afternoon of April 24. Verschell
was a longtime code writer who gave
many years of service to the ASME A17
Standards Committee. He also owned
Incline Consultants International Inc./Dwan
Elevator Co. He received the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Dedicated Service Award in 2006 and
was honored since that time at multiple
ASME events. A family memorial service

ANTHONY C. “TONY” CAPUTO
Anthony C. “Tony” Caputo of Longboat
Key, Florida, and Bridgewater, New
Jersey, passed away on May 13 at the age
of 89. An electrical engineer, he worked
for various companies in the electrical
field, until he entered the elevator
industry in 1980 by founding Equipment
Specialty Products, Inc., representing
various manufacturers. He was associated
with Imperial Electric of Ohio for 36
years. He was a member of the National
Association of Elevator Contractors and
regularly attended its annual conferences
until last year, when he retired. He is
survived by his wife of 64 years, Gilda;
son, Steven; daughter, Gilda; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and
two nephews. Funeral services took place
on May 17 in Peapack, New Jersey. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks for support
of “Team Tony” in the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk,
taking place on October 15 at Forrestal
Village in Princeton, New Jersey.

of Michael DuRoss at Action Accessibility

O’Keefe Elevator Company is pleased to announce
the historic election of new officers. The new officers
are: Dennis B. Wychulls, Chairman of the Board and
Chief Operating Officer; Alan L. Gilmore, Senior VicePresident and Secretary; Sam M. Sennett, Vice-President
Service; and Scott D. Ethington, Chief Financial Officer
and Treasurer.

After 44 years with O’Keefe, the last 12 as President,
Wychulls is stepping away from the day-to-day
operations of the business. He will stay active in an
advisory role to the executive management team while
pursuing other personal interests. Abels has been with
O’Keefe for 28 years, most recently as Senior VicePresident. He will oversee all day-to-day operations of
the company. Gilmore has 34 years with O’Keefe and
will continue his duties as head of new construction.
Sennett has 20 years of experience. The last 12 years
with O’Keefe have positioned him to assume duties
previously performed by Abels,. Ethington is in his fifth
year with O’Keefe, previously as its controller.

The vote of the Board was historic in that Abels becomes
the first President who is not an O’Keefe family member.
Since its founding over 100 years ago by Denis O’Keefe,
Sr., all five Presidents prior to Abels were family
members. The grandchildren of Denis Sr. still own 100%
of the business. They are all represented on the Board
and unanimously approved this new executive team.
O’Keefe is the largest full service elevator company
operating in Nebraska and Iowa. O’Keefe is the exclusive
distributor for ThyssenKrupp (formerly Dover) elevators
in the two state area.
Abels, in addition to his new duties as President of
O’Keefe, is currently serving as the President of the
National Association of Elevator Contractors. NAEC is an
association of approximately 700 members composed
of elevator contractors, suppliers, consultants, and other
professionals in the elevator field.
