Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B (Gather 1023)
July 12, 2015
The mission of St Bartholomew Catholic Church
is to reflect God’s love to all whom we meet, to
strengthen our faith community through worship,
education, fellowship, stewardship, and acts of
love and charity, so that we may lead people
from all backgrounds to our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Knights of C
 olumbus will once
again sponsor a blood drive on
Sunday July 12 from 7:30 AM to
9 PM. Donors will receive a FREE miniphysical (including blood type, iron and cholesterol
check).
There is a constant need for blood in our area. This
is a great opportunity to demonstrate
our community responsibility and your
chance to save the lives of our friends
and neighbors in South Florida. We hope
to see you there.
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began
to send them out two by two (Mark 6:7-13)

SENT BY GOD
In Amos’ time the vocation of prophet had achieved a very
formal status in Israel. The prophets had arisen, originally,
to act as God’s voice when Israel was no longer led by the
spiritual/civil figures known as “judges,” but by monarchs.
Over time, the monarchy had appropriated the offices of
priest and prophet, established them into companies, and
reserved the right to appoint courtly prophets. Then, as now,
when those in power also got to choose who would act as
their official conscience, things sometimes went awry. At such
times, God raised up prophets from unlikely places, and this
is how Amos received his vocation as prophet. In last week’s
Gospel we heard how Jesus was raised up as God’s anointed
from a place many viewed as unlikely. As we continue to
discern our own vocation as baptized disciples, we can be
assured that we are, in Paul’s words, “chosen, destined in
accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all
things according to the intention of his will” (Ephesians 1:11). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Today’s Readings
First Reading — Amos said, “The LORD took me from following the
flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people” (Amos 7:12-15).
Psalm — Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation
(Psalm 85).
Second Reading — The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians
1:3-14 [3-10]).
Gospel — Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them
out two by two (Mark 6:7-13).

Supreme Court Decision On Marriage “A Tragic Error”
Says President Of Catholic Bishops’ Conference
Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human
person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable. Just as Roe v. Wade did not settle the question of abortion over
forty years ago, Obergefell v. Hodges does not settle the question of marriage today. Neither decision is rooted in the truth, and
as a result, both will eventually fail. Today the Court is wrong again. It is profoundly immoral and unjust for the government to
declare that two people of the same sex can constitute a marriage.
The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and female. The
protection of this meaning is a critical dimension of the “integral ecology” (relationship between organisms and the environment)
that Pope Francis has called us to promote. Mandating marriage redefinition across the country is a tragic error that harms the
common good and most vulnerable among us, especially children. The law has a duty to support every child’s basic right to be
raised, where possible, by his or her married mother and father in a stable home.
Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one
woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth.
I encourage Catholics to move forward with faith, hope, and love: faith in the unchanging truth about marriage, rooted in the
immutable nature of the human person and confirmed by divine revelation; hope that
these truths will once again prevail in our society, not only by their logic, but by their
great beauty and manifest service to the common good; and love for all our neighbors,
even those who hate us or would punish us for our faith and moral convictions.
Lastly, I call upon all people of good will to join us in proclaiming the goodness, truth,
and beauty of marriage as rightly understood for millennia, and I ask all in positions of
power and authority to respect the God-given freedom to seek, live by, and bear witness
to the truth.
USCCB, Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz,
President, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
What’s the real threat to religious liberty posed by same-sex “marriage”?
The legal redefinition of marriage can threaten the religious liberty of religious institutions and individuals in potentially
numerous ways, involving various forms of government sanction, ranging from court orders compelling action against
conscience, to awards of money damages and other financial penalties, to marginalization in public life:
• Compelled Association: the government forces religious institutions to retain as leaders, employees, or members those who
obtain legalized same- sex “marriage”; or obligates wedding-related businesses to provide services for same-sex “couples.”
• Compelled Provision of Special Benefits: the government forces religious institutions to extend any special benefit they
afford to actual marriage to same-sex “marriage” as well.
• Punishment for Speech: preaching, political action, or conversation reflecting moral opposition to same-sex “marriage”
represents actionable “harassment” or “discrimination,” or forbidden “hate speech.”
• Exclusion from Accreditation and Licensure: those who adhere to the definition of marriage are excluded from participation
in highly regulated professions and quasi-governmental functions, as licenses are revoked and religious institutions lose
accredited status.
• Exclusion from Government Funding, Religious Accommodations, and Other Benefits: those who adhere to the definition
of marriage are excluded from receiving government grants and contracts to provide secular social services, and from
various tax exemptions.

Bondye pa janm kite
pitit li san gadyen
Mesaj jodia a ap montre nou yon Jezu ki efase l pou l kite
Apot li yo grandi. Li konfye yo misyon Wayom li an, li voye
yo anonse Bon Nouvèl la e li te ba yo anpil pouvwa. Apot
yo te obeyi lòd Jezu te paske yo pask yo te kwè nan li. Se
konfyans sila a Sen Pòl, nan 2e moso Labib la, ap mande n
pou nou kiltive nan lavi nou, e li fè nou konnen Bondye ap
toujou simen gras an abondans sou tout moun k ap viv pou
Kris la. E se menm konfyans sa a ki fè pwofet Amos te kapab
kontinye misyon l malgre pwoblèm li te rankontre. Jodi
a, frè m ak sè m yo, Bondye rele nou chak nan yon fason
espesyal e li konnen travay la pa fasil. Men, si nou bliye tèt
nou, si nou tounen bon jan sèvitè Kris la tout bon vre, e nou
fè travay la kòm sa dwa: nan simplisite ak imilite, Bondye
pap lage nou e l ap konble nou ak gras li.

a nuestro Señor Jesucristo”.
