The Louisiana Legislature enacted the High Voltage
Overhead Power Line Safety Act in 2001. Under this act:
Fall 2014
• Louisiana law prohibits any unauthorized persons from working, including moving equipment, within ten feet of any high
voltage overhead line.
• If any unauthorized person intends to work within ten feet of any high voltage overhead line, the person responsible for
the work to be done must notify the owner or operator of the high voltage overhead line 48 hours prior to commencing
work.

Preparing for winter
Now is the time to prepare your home for the cold
weather ahead. Since air leaks can dramatically drive
up your home energy costs, caulking cracks around
doorframes and windows, as well as replacing worn
door gaskets, can help lower your energy bills. The
shorter days during the winter mean you will use
your home lighting more. Keep fixtures and bulbs
clean to get maximum benefit.
Some major air leak areas for the average home are:
air ducts; window sashes and frames; fireplaces;
door sashes and frames; plumbing utilities and wall
penetrations; furnace flues; attic entrances; wall
outlets; and recessed light fixtures.
Thanks to Cleco’s recently approved Formula Rate Plan,
customers are saving money through decreased rates and a
one-time refund.
Ingredients:
1 pt whipping cream
½ cup green onions, chopped
½ cup parsley, chopped
2 lb crawfish tails or shrimp
6 fish fillets redfish, catfish,
or whatever you prefer
1 cup margarine
2 tsp salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp white pepper
½ tsp black pepper
2 tsp basil
Directions: Bring whipping cream to boil in a large skillet over
medium to high heat. Add green onions and parsley and half of
seasonings. Continue cooking until thickened. Test consistency by
dripping from spoon, drops should be thick. Add crawfish tails or
shrimp and simmer. Continue cooking a few more minutes until
mixture is thick again. To prepare fish, place in Zip Lock bag with
remaining seasonings and flour and shake. In large skillet, heat
margarine and pan-fry fillets until golden brown (about 3 minutes on
each side). Place fillets on individual plates and top with sauce. Enjoy!

Cleco wrapped up its 14th Annual Fan Drive in late
June. This year, Cleco donated more than 500 fans
to approximately 20 councils on aging throughout its
service territory. Cleco partnered with local councils
on aging to distribute the fans to the elderly.
The decreased rates took effect in July and will save the
average residential customer approximately $84 a year.
Customers also will see a $46 one-time refund on their
September bill. The one-time refund could vary for
customers because it is based on their electricity use.
The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved the
four-year rate treatment on June 18.
Below are school-related safety tips to consider during the year.
The safety tips also are helpful for you to consider at your home.
• Do not overload outlets. Doing so could cause a fuse to blow or a
circuit breaker to open. It also could start a fire.
• When using a halogen lamp, make sure that curtains and other items
are not too close. Those items can actually be ignited by the hot
temperatures from the halogen lamp. Make sure there is a wire mesh
shield over the bulb or lens as well.
• Do not run extension cords under rugs or rest furniture on them.
Extension cords are meant to be used occasionally, not permanently.
Also make sure the extension cord is not underrated.
• Using a surge suppressor for computer and entertainment systems
offers protection from stray voltage surges.
• Make sure that all wiring, cords and cables are away from the
general traffic areas to prevent falls or trips.
ADVANCE offers courses that are comparable to one year of high
school curriculum or equivalent to one semester of college. The
courses cover a broad range of subjects including algebra, journalism,
computer science and more. The program is offered to eighth-through
12th-grade students throughout the nation.
• Use equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Never bypass electrical interlocks or disable safety features.
• Have any defective or damaged wiring replaced or repaired before use.
• Put childproof covers on all outlets that children can reach.
