the concept:
march 2008, wired 96.5 offered listeners a chance to win a free concert
at their high school with hot pop recording artist and stars of the mtv
hit show making the band, danity kane (hit songs “show stopper” and
“damaged!”). the high school with the most text votes won the
concert at their school!

how it worked:
the contest was promoted on air by directing listeners to wired965.com where a
contest micro-site contained keywords for all area high schools. listeners then
texted their high school’s keyword to wired’s short-code, which tabulated votes.
over a two week period wired received over 3.8 million votes, from high school
students, alumni, faculty and parents. each voter received a bounce-back text
message with a sponsor’s tagline.
