SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING AND DESIGN Fact sheet International Academic Coordinator Contact Website Calendar in trimesters or semesters Study areas Language of the courses offered Andrés Abásolo [email protected] http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/ Trimesters Spanish and English Enrolment rules and recommendations o List of courses offered in 2015-2016 You can download the list of the courses per trimester and the names of the groups, in Spanish or English (we offer all the courses in English in Architecture and partially in other degrees) in the following links: http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/aeronautica/docencia/int ernacional/1/16/48 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/arquitectura/docencia/int ernacional/Estudiantes+Internacionales/7/16/234/3086 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/civil/docencia/internacio nal/Estudiantes+internacionales/3/16/103/396 15 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/diseño/docencia/internac ional/Estudiantes+internacionales/6/16/232/396 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/industrial/docencia/inter nacional/Estudiantes+internacionales/5/16/139/396 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/informatica/docencia/int ernacional/Estudiantes+internacionales/2/16/85/396 http://projectbasedschool.universidadeuropea.es/telecomunicaciones/doce ncia/internacional/Estudiantes+internacionales/4/16/121/39 o Recommended course choice You are allowed to enrol in courses from different academic years, but should try to be coherent with your academic level. It is important that the level of the course is appropriate for you, and this means they are not necessary form the same academic year: perhaps the third academic year project course is ok, but if your previous knowledge of the area of construction is low, you had better take the second year construction courses, etc. The School international team will give you feedback and advice regarding your course proposal. It is also very important to avoid overlaps in your schedule: If there are important overlaps please let us know so we can look for alternatives. We recommend the following course choices, depending on the type of stay (annual, first, second or third trimester stay). o Courses for annual stay First Trimester: 4 courses (excluding Design Studio in Architecture). Second Trimester: 3 courses (one of them a Design Studio course in Architecture). Third Trimester: 3 courses (one of them a Design Studio course in Architecture). ANNUAL STAY Course 4 24 ECTS First Trimester Course 1 Course 2 Course 3 Second Trimester Course 5: Design Studio* Course 6 Course 7 18 ECTS Third Trimester Course 8: Design Studio* Course 9 Course 10 18 ECTS * Only in Architecture 16 o Tuition for First Trimester stay First Trimester: 4 courses (one of them Project Workshop). FIRST TRIMESTER UEM First Trimester Course 1: Design Studio* Course 2 Course 3 Course 4 24 ECTS *Only in Architecture o Courses for Second/Third Trimester stay Second Trimester: 3 courses (one of them a Project Workshop course). Third Trimester: 3 courses (one of them a Project Workshop course). SECOND AND THIRD TRIMESTER UEM Second Trimester Course 1: Design Studio* Course 2 Course 3 18 ECTS Third Trimester Course 4: Design Studio* Course 5 Course 6 18 ECTS * Only in Architecture Try to balance your course loads across trimesters (3 or 4 courses per trimester). Not all the courses are offered in all the trimesters, so you must be careful choosing them. If you arrive to UEM more than three weeks after the beginning of the second trimester, you cannot enrol in the 2nd trimester courses, apart from language courses. Other important aspects o Languages: Spanish or English groups We highly recommend taking courses taught in English: In those groups there are both international and Spanish students. If you are learning Spanish, you can take some courses in English, and some easy ones in Spanish. If you speak Spanish at B2 level, you can take any course taught in Spanish. The groups in English are the B groups: (e.g.: M1B, T2B, M3B, T4B etc.) The rest are groups in Spanish (e.g. M11, T21, M31, T41 etc.). In Engineering, some groups named (M11, T21, M31 etc. are offered or in Spanish or in English). 17 o Course Advice: Architecture (100% of the courses are offered in English) Project workshops (=Design Studio): Maximum two courses per academic year. Never at the same time (in the same trimester). Be careful with the level, if you consider it is too high tell the teacher at the beginning of the trimester in order to change to a lower level. For example, if you are taking Project workshop G3 and the course is too demanding, it is better to change into Project workshop G2. In Spain the level is quite high for some students depending on the country, due to the high technology/drawing level required (especially in 4th and 5th academic year). Integration workshops: Highly recommended for exchange students. In these workshops, professors of Urbanism, Construction, Structures and Building Facilities, give you feedback about your architectural projects, from the point of view of the technology. A basic technology and urbanism level is required. Drawing workshops: Highly recommended for exchange students. They consist of advanced digital drawing and modeling. Be careful before taking one of the second year workshops (Integrated Drawing workshop III and IV), some of them require an advanced knowledge of digital drawing: speak with the teacher before. If you have doubts, take the year 1 Drawing workshops: even though they are from the first year, the level is advanced. Exception: We do not recommend that you enroll in: ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING: this course is too basic. Urbanism courses. Recommended for exchange students. However, be careful with the level. If you never did specific Urbanism courses, just take a basic one, URBAN DEVELOPMENT BASICS. If you have previously taken one or two Urbanism courses, you can take URBAN AREAS or even URBAN PLANNING. History courses. Highly recommended for exchange students, any of them. Business management. Highly recommended for exchange students. Deontology and values. Not specially recommended: it focuses on the Spanish laws for the profession of architecture. Structures courses. These courses are not recommendable for students of Architecture, only for students of Engineering. The level of dimensioning and calculation required is high. The students of Architecture could take the most basic course, STRUCTURAL MECHANICS. English. This course, offered in the Architecture program, is not available for international students. If you need English courses, speak to the Language Center in Building B. Building Facilities and Conditioning Techniques. These courses are recommended for some students and not for others, see the syllabus and speak with the professor before. They partly focus on design, but a lot of content is based on calculation and dimensioning. Construction. Recommended for international students. Be careful with the level, if you never took construction before, just take CONSTRUCTION I: SYSTEMS. CONSTRUCTION III STRUCTURES is not calculation of structures, but 18 Construction detailing of structural nodes. The most interesting course is CONSTRUCTION IV: ENVELOPE. However, it requires previous knowledge of construction at an advanced level. Mixed Technology (Technical systems, Technology workshop) these courses are not recommendable for students of Architecture, their level is quite high, because of their high contents related to structures, construction and facilities. Sustainability in the Building environment. Recommended for exchange students. However, a certain level of Building facilities, construction and Urbanism knowledge is required. Graduation Project. Not available for exchange students. Professional Internship. Not available for exchange students. Language – Spanish: You can get information at UEM´s Language Center about courses of Spanish. Prerequisites. Some courses have prerequisites. Please avoid enrolling in any course without coursing previously its prerequisite either at UEM or at your home University (Example: don’t take materials II before taking Materials I, Calculus II before Calculus I etc.). o Course advice – Engineering: (Around 20% of the courses are offered in English. In Mechanical engineering all 1st, 2nd and 3rd academic year is offered in English) Project Based courses (Integrated workshops): the international students can totally or partially participate in one of these projects (common projects shared between several courses). Graduation Project. Not available for exchange students. Professional Internship. Not available for exchange students. Prerequisites. Some courses have prerequisites. Please avoid enrolling in any course without previously having passed its prerequisite either at UEM or at your home University (Example: don’t take materials II before taking Materials I, Calculus II before Calculus I etc.). English. This course, offered in the Architecture program, is not available for international students. If you need English courses, speak to the Language Center in Building B. Language – Spanish: You can get information at UEM´s Language Center about courses of Spanish. o Course advice: Design Graduation Project. Not available for exchange students. No restregar. 3. Limpiar la zona con agua y jabón. 4. No utilizar lejía. 5.
