Members.

You are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert to share, but it is certainly
not required. Beverages are for purchase. The Alexander Band plays the
best from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. This is the Forest Park social event of
the year.
Volunteers needed for Saturday 7/16 Outreach Day
One Day, Four Hours is all we need.
If you're looking for a way to make a huge difference in your community without making a long term commitment, this is a great way
to do it.
Outreach Day is a onetime celebration where we seek to meet and greet all possible residents. The idea is to gather opinions and
suggestions from fellow residents, encourage
membership and thank existing members. The four hour period is slated for 10:30-2:30, followed by a Forest Park party for the volunteers.
Please call Mike Stone at 844-6893 for more information.

What a great day! 18 people showed up at Schoedinger’s Funeral Home to stuff and seal the membership letters. Letters hopefully you have all received and returned with $25 dues, for the whole year. Cathleen Clarke, Chapel Manager
of Schoedingers, graciously set us up with table, chairs, snacks and beverages. Thanks to Romeo Pizza and Dan
Hartzell for the pizza. Sixteen people processed 2876 letters. It is the first time we were able to get this much done in
one setting. It was a hoot as we visited and worked.

Three Very Special People
On May 12 I had the privilege to honor three folks on your behalf. Every year at the Northland Community Council banquet the president can give a special award to up to three people in the civic association. The recipients received proclamations from our State, County and City representatives as well as a special plaque.
Our honorees this year are outstanding.
Susan Buttermore has always been a tenacious worker for Forest Park. She has helped in every aspect. Two years
ago she took a giant leap in volunteerism. She is the editor of the Forester. We all can see the quality of her work. We
can only imagine how much work goes into putting this first class publication out every month. In addition to organizing
the copy Susan has to find advertisers and get them to pay. Susan has to find articles that are timely for us all. She
still shows up for other tasks as well. Forest Park does not have a greater worker. Susan Buttermore is honored for her
loyalty and dedication.
Lyn Denney has been a person who works behind the scenes. As our Northland Community Council Representative
she takes our concerns to them and brings their reports back to us. In fine tradition Lyn represents Forest Park well to
NCC. She is the NCC treasurer. She is on the banquet planning committee. She is organizing the NCC picnic this year.
As if that is not enough, you can see Lyn volunteering at almost every function that Forest Park has. She set up and
cleaned up at our Outback Steakhouse night last fall. She helped plant at the islands. And much more! Lyn Denney is
honored as someone we have counted on and did not know.
Jana Waltman is relatively new to our volunteer list. She came on the scene as an area representative. She did not
like the way we were going about our membership drive. The timeline was sooooo long and drawn out. It took up all
the summer and most of fall. No one was happy. Everybody did not like the process. What we like about Jana is that
she did not just complain, but came up with a better idea. What is great about her she not only had an idea, but she
planned details and worked avidly to change things for the better. As a result the membership drive is basically done in
one day with a couple weeks follow up. It is fun. It is productive. Jana Waltmann honored for bringing an idea to life.
FOREST PARK BLOCKWATCH
The Forest Park Block Watch holds their meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7 pm at Epworth Methodist Church, 5100 Karl Rd. All Forest Park residents are welcome and encouraged to attend. We
have a great program of speakers for the second quarter of 2011. Our April 26 meeting had Laura Deal, a
Personal Protection Instructor, who discussed personal protection and courses and personal protection equipment available to the general public. On May 24, Jane Acri, with the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, discussed emergency preparedness. Finally, on June 28, representatives from Crime Stoppers will be talking
about how their organization works and what it does. Come and join us. Our on-line forum with instructions
on how to join the forum may be found at http://blockwatch.fpcivic.org/.
