ACROSS BEAUTIFUL SHOALWATER BAY,
PENGUIN ISLAND IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S
PREMIER NATURE-BASED TOURISM
DESTINATIONS. THE STAR ATTRACTION
IS THE LITTLE PENGUIN — THE SMALLEST
SPECIES IN THE WORLD.
Visitors can get up close to the penguins at the
Discovery Centre where rangers host three daily Penguin
Feedings at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. They’re
fun, educational and the kids will love it! It's your best
opportunity to see these fascinating creatures as
although the island is home to around 1,200 penguins,
they’re naturally shy and spend most daylight hours
feeding at sea or hidden away in burrows.

Getting here:
The marine park abounds with other wildlife including
wild dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans and over 50
species of seabirds. Under the water, there are colourful
reefs and seagrass meadows for snorkellers to enjoy. On
the Island, nature lovers can explore timber boardwalks
and coastal lookouts that have been voted one of WA’s
‘Top Nature Trails’. Visitors can also enjoy an ideal picnic
area overlooking a shallow, sheltered beach — perfect for
children to have a swim while mum and dad relax and
enjoy sweeping coastal views.
Rockingham Wild Encounters is proud to be the only
cruise company licensed to visit Penguin Island and
operate within the wildlife sanctuary zone of the
Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Our cruises specialise
in interacting with the local wildlife including the
rare Australian sea lions of Seal Island and the local
population of wild dolphins that we have been visiting
now for over 20 years. It is our privilege to share this
beautiful part of the coast and it’s wildlife. We hope you
enjoy your visit.
We are located on the corner of Arcadia Drive
and Penguin Road, Shoalwater (45 minutes
south of Perth).
See back for map and public transport options.
