Gardening Club
This week, the children in gardening club harvested the runner beans and potatoes they had grown in the
school garden. The sprouts and cauliflower are growing well and we can pick them in November. Mrs Cutts
would like to say thank you to Mrs Osborne in the kitchen for cooking the vegetables which the children in
gardening club enjoyed eating at tuck time on Thursday.
Year 3 News
We are pleased that Year 3, are settling well into the Junior School.
The children are getting used to the new routines such as buying
tuck at playtime.
As part of topic lessons this week, we have been learning to use
scientific vocabulary when describing the forces we apply to
different materials. We stretched, pulled, pushed and twisted play
dough to investigate the effect of the forces used. We made
predictions about what surfaces have the most friction and tested
them on a slope, thinking about how this can affect us in everyday
life, for example using the brakes on a bike.
Year 4 News
It has been a busy few weeks in Year 4! Everyone has begun to settle down, get used to the new routine and
enjoying the lessons. Last week we started learning about our new topic this term, electricity. We began the topic by
learning about static electricity. This involved a really fun experiment using balloons to generate static electricity.
This caused our hair to stand up on end and we were able to pick up pieces of paper, using the static electricity we
had created with our balloons. We had a lot of fun doing this and can’t wait to learn more about electricity over the
coming half term.
Year 5 News
Recently year 5 visited the Thinktank Museum as an introduction to their science topic on the Solar System.
It was really fun and exciting.

Year 6 News
Last week Year 6 were treated to a visit from two Vikings. The computer
suite was transformed into a museum depicting the life of the Norsemen as
the children were regaled by stories of old. Amongst other facts, the
children discovered that the horns often pictured on ‘Viking’ helmets never
actually existed; they were a Victorian invention to try and ‘spice up’ the
Vikings. There was a chance to learn about and handle artefacts including
cooking implements, weapons and armour, coins, clothes, weaving and
much more. The children will now spend the rest of this half term
developing their knowledge of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.
