PROJECT MANAGEMENT is the professional discipline
which separates the management function of a project
from the design and execution functions. Project
Management may be defined as the overall planning,
co-ordination and control of a project form inception to
completion aimed at meeting client’s requirement in order

CONSTRUCTION SAFETY & HEALTH OFFICER (CSHO)
INTRODUCTION
COURSE OBJECTIVES
THE MALAYSIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
has unsatisfactory record on health and safety issues.
According to the Department of Occupational Safety
and Health, there were 3,150 accidents and 77 deaths
reported in year 2005 alone. Even though the number
of accidents and deaths has declined compared to the
previous years, the statistics are still amongst the highest
compared to the other sectors in the economy.
To train and produce competent construction safety and
health officer of high calibre which in turn will assist the
industry in transforming construction sites as a safer and
better place to work in.
CIDB with cooperation of industry players have developed
course aimed at improving the quality of safety and health
in construction sites known as the Construction Safety &
Health Officer (CSHO) Training Program. This curriculum
and training modules were developed to equip the safety
and health officer with appropriate knowledge and
skill that will enable them to perform effectively in the
construction environment.

MALAYSIAN CIVIL ENGINEERING STANDARD METHOD OF
MEASUREMENT (MyCESSM)
COURSE OBJECTIVES & LEARNING OUTCOMES
d. Implement best practices in civil engineering project cost
control by using MyCESMM
The MyCESMM training is to educate the construction
industry participants on the key and fundamental principles of
MyCESMM to achieve the following objectives to:
During the workshops, participants have to apply and challenge their understanding, knowledge and skill on Bills of
Quantities production for civil works based on MyCESMM.
The workshop shall be organized as follows:
a. Enhance the level of awareness on the importance of
standardizing the preparation of Bills of Quantities for civil
engineering works.
b. Offer a clear understanding of how to use MyCESMM
c. Establish a systematic approach for applying MyCESMM in
measuring civil engineering works.
• Organize the trainees into groups of 4-6 participants.
• Assign workshop tasks such as preparation of taking off
list, draft bill or Bills of Quantities to the groups.
• Distribute the necessary workshop materials
• Allocate appropriate time to finish each task (refer module
program/schedule in Table 3.
• Answer correctly all questions/confusions and guide the
participants based MyCESMM principles.
• Model answers to the workshop tasks are provided in this
MyCESMM trainers’ training kit (Appendix K5).
At the end of the training the trainees should be able to:
a. Understand MyCESMM principles
b. Measure civil engineering works based on MyCESMM
c. Prepare Bills of Quantities for civil engineering works
based on MyCESMM.
