August 7, 2016 Meeting Minutes
By Sam Goforth, Secretary
REGULAR BUSINESS:
The regular monthly meeting of the Lone Star T’s, DFW Chapter
of the Model T Ford Club of America, was called to order by
President Jim Frierson, at 2:40 PM on Sunday, August 07, 2016
at the Central Congregational Church, Royal Lane, Dallas, TX.
Announcements:
Jim welcomed those who braved the heat. It’s August and it’s
hot, nothing new. Minutes of the July meeting were approved as
published in the newsletter, with a motion by Dr. King, second by
Ric Martin.
Tickey Creek: We will leave from the Preston Royal area (probably
McDonald’s) at 9 am Saturday, October 15th, west on Bass Pro
Drive to Grapevine, then continuing west on Dove Road to the
Westlake Classic Car Show (pre-1959). Lunch on your own at one
of the restaurants on site or bring your own picnic lunch. The Boy
Scouts will also be selling picnic lunches. About 2 pm or so, we will
follow the same route back to Preston Royal. Some members of the
Ft. Worth club will join us there as well.
OLD BUSINESS:
None reported.
Dinner Night Out: Carol and David Tipton are hosting the August
DNO on the 18th at Po Melvin’s in Irving. Kathy said volunteers
are still needed for September and November Dinner Night Out.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dan Hayes is heading the nominating committee for our 2017
slate of officers. Contact Dan if you would like to nominate
someone. Gary Page suggested considering future donations to
the MTFCI scholarship fund and/or McPherson College Antique
Auto studies program. Current registration at McPherson
is 3,000+ students. Several schools perform restorations for
Elegance level events. The MTFCI Foundation fund is quite large
and separate from the regular MTFCI club budget. The MTFCI
Detroit museum is growing and developing nicely. Bill Peterson
suggested our board of directors look into donations with lasting
effects. All suggestions from our membership will be submitted
to the BofD.
Men’s Night Out: David Tipton will host the August MNO at his
son’s shop on the 9th. Ed Clark will host his annual LST club
outing at Joe’s house in September.
Texas T Party: Registration and fees are to be submitted to Kathy
Harris by August 15th. Kathy said the T Party tours will average
about 100 miles or less each day.
Newsletter: Submissions for the newsletter are always accepted by
Ric Martin.
Program: Dr. Bill King reported that two of his Model T’s are
part of a TV show called “The Son” currently being filmed in
Austin. Additionally, on July 29th the Kings celebrated their 62nd
wedding anniversary.
REPORTS:
Treasurer: Gary Page reported that the club accounts are solvent
and in the black.
Membership: Kathy Harris drew Gary Coats name to win the name
tag drawing from the sign in sheet of 26 members present. Bill and
Judy Peterson’s grandson recently won the MTFCI essay contest.
Pate Swap Meet: Similar results as last year.
Sunshine: Suzy Page has Harry Wistrand’s new address. Harry
and Faine recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. Liz
Wolfe is recovering from another neck surgery. Sue Chovanetz is
currently battling shingles.
Judy Peterson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:15 pm.
Farming Heritage Day

Saturday, September 24th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is an annual event and Dr. King and Genie attended last year with their touring
and had a great time. Maybe we can set up a day stroll if we can get enough interested.
Contact Dan for any interests in making a stroll out of this (Dan Hayes, 972-741-5177,

President's Note
Tickey Creek stroll to
Westlake Classic Car Show
Saturday, October 15
Terry Plata and Sam Goforth have been working both ends
of this thing and it’s gonna be a great day. Not so much a tour
as a one-day extended stroll.
We will assemble at 9 a.m. at the McDonald’s on PrestonRoyal. Coffee and restrooms before an immediate departure.
The route will take us west on Royal all the way to Grapevine
where we will have a sight-seeing rest stop at the Gaylord Texan.
We will proceed on a beautiful drive west on Dove Road
straight to Westlake. Probably arrive around 11 a.m.
Lunch will be on our own at either the pizzeria, a tex-mex
restaurant, the lobby restaurant in the Marriott, or pick up
something at the Starbucks to go with your own picnic lunch.
About 2 p.m. we will head back east giving everyone time
to get home regardless of their route. Terry has put out an
invitation for the Ft. Worth club to join us there.
Anyone who plans to drive their Model T (or other antique
car) needs to let Sam or Terry know as soon as possible. The
show officials are reserving a special parking area just for us.
We will not be entered in the show competition, just
attending as a group. Questions can be directed to Sam at
[email protected] or call his cell 214-701-3948 or home 214319-8660.
I hope everyone has had a
chance to rest up and get ready
for a lot of club activities over
the next couple of months.
The weather certainly has
been different than our usual
hotter-than-heck August. The
rain has had me mowing the
yard a lot more than usual for
this time of year.
The Texas T party will be
here soon and I hope many of
you will be going, especially
with it being so close in Stephenville. Many thanks go to
Kathy Harris and crew for all of her hard work in organizing
this year’s event.
I would like to thank Director Dan Hayes who is heading
up the nominating committee for next year’s officers. I
would like to encourage each of you who have not taken up
a leadership role in the club to consider where your skills
could be of use. I can tell you from my personal experience
that working on the tours, being vice-president and now
president has given me the opportunity to really get to know
our members and make new friends. Jump in and help where
you can. It is a lot of fun.
At our last meeting I discussed briefly that the club has
a surplus at what is essentially our end of fiscal year of
around $2,000. There were several worthy causes mentioned
including: a McPherson College donation for tools that all
students would get to use, the MTFCA Museum which we
have funded in the past, and the Parquette Ford Museum in
Detroit. The board will have a meeting before our September
business meeting to discuss some of these items. I encourage
anyone who sees an opportunity for our club to do something
special through a donation to please contact me or any board
member with your idea.
Ed Clark’s picnic is coming up on Saturday, September
10th. This annual event is a favorite of the club and will be
held at his daughter’s home at Lake Dallas.
Another upcoming event is our Tickey Creek Tour hosted
by Sam Goforth in October. Sam, along with Terry Plata are
hosting a stroll to the annual car show held in Southlake.
This will be a single-day event and although we won’t be an
official part of the car show, they will have a designated place
for us all to park and we could steal the show. Model Ts just
have a way of doing that.
LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!

August DNO Recap
We had a great time at the Po' Melvin's Down Home Cooking
restaurant on the 18th in Irving. Thank you to David and Carol
Tipton for a great location and evening. The food was great and
the company even better. We had a solid turn out of almost 20.
Gus and Clark's office / warehouse was around the corner so we
went to visit and what a great operation. Thanks for sharing. As
you can see in the pictures, we think we may have to commit the
Goforths to the "Funny Farm". I think without Charlotte there
to control her kids, they were a little out of control... Ha Ha.
Loads of fun so don't miss next months DNO... -Dan Hayes
