In composing The THOUSAND by REAL Trends as advertised in The Wall Street Journal and the
REAL Trends Best Real Estate Agents in America rankings we reach out to request applications to
virtually every leading brokerage organization, virtually all Realtor® associations and MLSs and a variety of other sources. Even given this we recognize that not every eligible sales professional knows
of this ranking report and there are some who prefer not to share their data with us. There are some
that are missed. We do verify through third party sources every applicant’s submission.
Congratulations to the individual and team real estate sales professionals who qualified to be part of
this year’s REAL Trends The Thousand, as advertised in The Wall Street Journal. In an industry that has
nearly 1 million people involved in residential real estate sales, the fact that these sales associates have
achieved the level of sales it takes to be in this esteemed group is outstanding.
This is the 11th year REAL Trends has created the ranking of the top sales professionals in the United
States in partnership with The Wall Street Journal. These superb professionals closed 159,589 sides
and more than $72 billion in sales volume in 2015—a new record for sales volume for this group and a 9
percent increase from The Thousand last year. It is incredible to consider that 1,000 sales professionals
and teams could accomplish so much.
In a continued effort to give a further look into how these sales professionals rank nationally, we
have ranked our top 50 individuals and top 50 teams by average sales price. Only those that met
our minimum qualifications to apply for The Thousand were considered for the average sales price
rankings.
We could not have assembled this ranking of the nation’s finest and most productive real estate sales
professionals without the assistance of the real estate industry’s leaders. We thank the leaders of the
nation’s largest real estate brands and networks, local and state associations of Realtors® and many
multiple listing systems (MLSs) for their efforts to support the compilation and verification of the data
that applicants submitted to REAL Trends.
It is important to note that while we reached
out to more than 2,000 separate U.S. realty
organizations in an attempt to reach every sales
professional who might qualify to be ranked on
this list, it is highly likely that there are some fine
real estate sales professionals who are not listed
here. Some may not be here because they did not
want to apply and others because the word of this
ranking did not reach them. Thus, this version of
REAL Trends The Thousand, as advertised in The
Wall Street Journal, may not be a complete list.
METHODOLOGY
The application process begins in January when
we send applications to those who qualified in past
years. Then, we contact national real estate brands
so that they may encourage sales associates and
teams to apply. We also work directly with all
brokerage firms ranked on the REAL Trends 500
and Up-and-Comers and virtually every local and

state Association of Realtors®. We invite each of
these parties to either submit qualified candidates
to us or to let us know who may be qualified, and
then we reach out to them directly.
All production listed is based on the prior calendar
year’s closed residential sales. We do not include
leases or commercial sales. These numbers may
include off-market listings. While we list the
city and state of the main office that the sales
professional or team is located, the sales included
in the numbers may come from various other
markets if the sales professional does business
across multiple MLSs, cities, and/or states.
We require independent, third-party verification
for every sales professional and team. These take
many forms, but the source for the verification
must be independent of the sales professional or
team that submits an application. We make no
exceptions to this rule.

REGIONAL BREAKDOWN
For the second year in a row, the South region dominated the transaction sides rankings with 42 percent in the individual category
and 44 percent in the teams category. The Midwest followed closely behind with 35 percent represented on the individuals by
sides rankings and 31 percent on the teams by sides rankings. The West came in third with the Northeast closing in last.
The Western region once again dominated the sales volume rankings, both for individuals with 49 percent and teams with
40 percent. The Northeast region came in second for individuals by sales volume while the South came in slightly ahead on
the teams by sales volume ranking. The Northeast represented 29 percent of the individual by sales volume ranking, with the
South representing 26 percent of the teams on the sales volume ranking. The Midwest region had the fewest represented on
both the individuals and teams by sales volume lists.
