Pastor’s Reflection on The Gospel
CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD: In both the first reading and
the Gospel we are told about Christ’s glorious ascension into
heaven. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has
been seated at God’s right hand in heaven, above every choir of
angels. There might be a temptation to stay at an awed distance
from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today’s readings is far
from that temptation. The tone is exultant and the message is
urgent. We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel describes
the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53). How can we
continually praise God? The answer can be found in the second
reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a “Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians
1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be enlightened
and empowered.

Intensive Program
Registration for the Summer Intensive Program is
now open! This program offers a tremendous number of courses that are among those required for a
catechist certificate. Many of these courses are also
relevant to those engaged in other parish ministries.
Offerings this summer include:
• All of the FTCM v2.0 courses. (This summer is
the last time these courses are being offered.)
• All of the FTCM v3.0 courses.
• 5 catechetic modules.
• 4 sexuality catechesis modules.
As is traditional, these courses occupy the bulk of
the month of June. Additionally, this year we have
two weeks of courses in July. Most of the courses
are taking place at the Chancery at St. Dominic
Center (on Holcombe near the Medical Center), but
we are also offering courses the week of July 25-30
at St. Edward Catholic Church in Spring. Participants are welcome to sign up for as few or as many
courses as fit their schedules. This is also a great
opportunity to make up any missed classes for
which individuals have already paid. Someone making up a missed class for which he or she has already paid should use the “offline payment” option
and indicate that these are make-up classes on the
payment page.
