Our New First Lutheran Church Members!
William Ethan Hastert was baptized on Sunday,
July 28, 2013 at First Lutheran Church of
Plano. William’s parents are Ethan & Heidi
Hastert of Elburn. Baptismal sponsors were Chris
& Angie Erickson and Konnie Torrente. Pastor
Bruce Booher officiated. Big brothers John and
Benjamin, and older sister Ava shared in the
Celebration along with several other family
members and Friends. Welcome William to the
First Lutheran Church family.
The Quilting Group will begin again
for the year on Tuesday, Sept 10th, at
9:00 a.m. New quilters are always
welcome. No sewing experience is
necessary. If you can tie a knot, you
can tie a comforter. Most of the quilts are sent to
Lutheran World Relief for distribution around the
world, and some are sent to local agencies for use in
this area. If you don’t want to tie quilts you can bring
your knitting or crocheting and join us for fellowship.
There is always lots of visiting as we work, and we
even take a break to enjoy tasty treats!! JOIN US!
The QUILTING GROUP is
looking for someone who will
be willing to transport their
completed quilts to Faith
Lutheran Church in Joliet the weekend of Oct 56, 2013 for the Fall In-Gathering. There will be
several large boxes, so someone with a van or
pickup truck would be most helpful. Please plan
ahead, and help out these wonderful ladies!
Thank you!

Church of Plano. Garrett’s parents are James
Sanmann and Michelle Biltgen. Baptismal

SEPTEMBER LIBRARY NEWS
School has started, and children and parents are looking forward to a new year
(some children, most parents). For some of us, school is a distant memory. We
are aging! So, what can we do about it?
“Joyfully Aging” by Richard Bimler tries to answer that question. Aging is indeed a gift and
a blessing. How we use these is up to us. Through humor and anecdotes the author encourages us
to live each day as God’s people.
Also by Bimler and his son, Robert Bimler, is the book “Laughter” - how good humor can
help you lighten your cares and the cares of others as we celebrate joy in the Lord. This book is
intended for all ages.
I recently had the privilege of hearing Richard Bimler speak. He was an inspirational and
humrous speaker. His books are light reading, up-beat, and inspiring. Enjoy!

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH ANNUAL
5 B’S BAR~B~QUE
The annual Pork Chop and Chicken Bar-B-Que will be
held Friday, September 20th from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.
This is an important fundraiser for the church and it can
only be successful if everyone helps. The money raised is used for church
improvements and special needs. The most important thing is ticket sales.
Ticket sales will begin on September 1st. Please stop by the table at the back of
the sanctuary and pick up a few books of tickets to sell to your family, friends,
and co-workers. You may also purchase your own meal ticket at this time.
We also need help setting up on the 19th (day before the Bar-B-Que) and final
set- up and running the Bar-B-Que on Friday the 20th. There are a number of
jobs that can be done by all ages. Watch for a sign-up sheet at the back of the
sanctuary for jobs and times. Please sign up to help. This can be a family affair.
We can use helpers of all ages!!!!!
The Bar-B-Que is an evening of work, fun, and fellowship. Let’s all work
together to make it a successful one.
Thank you,
Property & Management Committee

New Prayer Chain Guidelines for Reques ng a Prayer be added to the Prayer Chain ANYONE may request a Prayer for ANYTHING they deem necessary or gives them cause for concern. Please call with the Church office at 630.552.8263 or the first person on the Prayer Chain. Please keep the prayer request as simple as possible: Name of person prayer requested for and reason. It is not necessary to go into a detailed message. God knows what is needed; we are simply the vessel to request His care. This will also help to keep the prayer request accurate as it passes down the list to members of the Prayer Partners. There no longer is a Day and Night Chain (one chain only). Calls can be made between 8:30am – 8:30pm. Note those listed in italics1— they have the capability to receive text messages, and they have requested to be part of the chain in this manner. Sept. 8th with Rally Day
We will be “flying on faith” as we begin the
Sunday School year with Rally Day on Sunday,
September 8th at 9:00 a.m. Please note that
this is a different time than Sunday School is
usually held, which is 9:30 a.m. each week
after Rally Day. All Sunday School children,
their parents and the entire congregation is
invited to attend the exciting program featuring Tim Hannig (Christian ministry
magician) to be held at the Methodist Church
at 9:00 a.m. on this day. Following this
program we will return to First Lutheran for
donuts and juice. Come join us as “God
Guides Us” on our “Awesome Adventure!”
Sunday School Teachers:
Please pack your bags for our trip…
Sunday School teachers who plan to stay on
are requested to please call (630/552-8625)
or send Kathy Benoit an e-mail at
[email protected]. Also, if you are not
currently a Sunday teacher or helper and
wish to help, please do the same. We are

and who has prayed about helping our Sunday
School and wants to CHECK IN FOR OUR
NEXT ADVENTURE !  Thanks!

Bibles Distributed to 3rd Graders
on Sept 15
The Education Committee and Sunday School of
First Lutheran is proud to present Bibles to all 3rd
grade students and their parents at both
services on Sunday, Sept 15. You will receive a
letter from the church office about this special
day. Please call the church office and let them
know that you will be honored to attend that day.
Sunday School Teachers Installed
Sunday School teachers will be installed at both
services on Sunday, September 15, 2013 . If you
will be involved in the Sunday School, please plan
to attend one of these services to be recognized.
Sign Up to be a Secret Pal
Adult members of the church are invited to
become a Sunday School Secret Pal. The only
requirement is that you provide support and
encouragement to a Sunday School child
throughout the school year. This encouragement
may be in the form of anonymous notes, cards,
little snacks or surprises.
If you are interested in becoming a Secret Pal,
please sign your name to the list at the back of
the church. We will assign you with the name and
address of a Sunday School child and the rest is
up to you. This is a great way to share your love
of the Lord with a child and help them realize how
important they are in His eyes (and yours, too!)
Student Information Forms
On the first day of Sunday School, we will send
home a student information form and Secret Pal
form with each child. Parents and students should
complete these and return them the next Sunday.
We would like to have up-to-date information on
each family, in the event of an emergency. If your
child has any allergies or special restrictions, it
should be listed on this form. Also, these forms
are a great help to adult Secret Pals!
