COALITION SHERBROOKOISE POUR LE TRAVAIL DE RUE
SERVICES
Street workers reach out to youth and adults on their own turf:
on the street, in bars and coffee shops, in schoolyards and parks,
and at any other public gathering place. This approach, based
on egalitarian and respectful relations, better addresses the
realities, concerns, and needs of people experiencing social
exclusion or isolation.
By providing support or simply being there, a street worker
establishes a relationship of trust built on respect, confidentiality,
and being non‑judgmental. The worker is thus in a position to
listen to the person’s needs, and then guide and assist them in their
development, at their own pace. This relationship of trust enables
84
the worker to provide a listening
ear, advice, referrals, help in a crisis,
guidance, etc.
Workers also visit high schools as well as various parks and
neighbourhoods with the Macadam J bus, the Coalition’s mobile
response vehicle.

LES GRANDS FRÈRES GRANDES SŒURS DE L’ESTRIE
SERVICES
Traditional pairing, in‑school mentoring, Go Girls!
and Game On! programs.
Our services seek to promote the child’s development and enhance
his or her well‑being by pairing him or her with an adult or couple
who will pass on family and social values and act as a role model,
mentor, and friend.
In‑school mentoring
The in‑school mentoring program is special because it takes place
entirely within the school environment. The young participants
involved have demonstrated signs of being at risk of quitting school
or are not working to their full potential.
Volunteers meet with the children for one hour
per week at lunch hour at the child’s school,
during the school year, to take part in various
structured activities; they also meet at other more
spontaneously determined times.
The goal is to enhance the child’s self‑confidence and self‑esteem,
to stimulate a greater interest in school on the child’s part, to
encourage the child to persevere in his or her studies, and to promote
the child’s discovery and realization of his or her full potential.
Go Girls! and Game On!
These group programs are for boys and girls
between the ages of 8 and 12 (separate groups)
and cover the following themes: Balanced diet,
active lifestyles, and personal well‑being. The goal
of these programs is to help and equip youth in
making informed decisions in terms of a healthy
lifestyle and to improve their perceptions of their
body image.
The programs run for eight sessions of 90 minutes each. Different
activities are offered to the youth at each session so they explore
the three topics.
50 mentor positions to fill!
We are always looking for volunteers of both genders for our
in‑school mentorship program, as well as the Go Girls! and
Game On! programs.

and independence. All of this is achieved through outdoor activities.
Our fundraising efforts, including the annual Scout popcorn
