Headteachers Weekly Message
Headteachers Weekly Message
Dear Parents & Carers,
I can’t believe that this is the last Friday letter of the year it has flown past. The children
and staff are ready for a break and everyone has worked really hard this year.
Just looking around school at the displays showing all of the trips, residential visits,
themed weeks in school, charity days and sporting projects it has certainly been not just a
busy year but a great year in so many ways. It has been great to see the children flourish
and grow and be ready for the next stage of their schooling. A special good luck to all of
our year six pupils who move on to their new schools in September.
Please don’t forget that any important information you might need about the school should
be available on the school website.
On behalf of all of the staff thank you for working with us to do the very best for the
children and we hope to do the same again next year – but even better.
Enjoy your time with your families and I look forward to welcoming you all back on
Monday 5th September.
Best wishes
Mrs J Powell
Message from our chair of governors
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to thank everyone involved with the school for a great year and also wish all the Y6 children and parents the best
of luck for the future. My youngest, Edward, is leaving today and so I know exactly how many parents are feeling right now.
For us it’s the final day of nine years of our children being at Rivelin and so it really is the end of an era.
I would specifically like to thank the teachers and all the other staff for their hard work this year. It’s been a particularly difficult
time in primary education recently, with huge and controversial changes to the way our children are assessed, many of which
are still not fully resolved. And everyone knows that budgets are very tight. Despite this, the staff have secured the very
important and much deserved “good” rating from Ofsted this year and the initial end-of-year results from Early Years to Y6 all
look very encouraging.
If you have time, please have a read of my blog on the website which I will update very soon with more details.
Please have a relaxing and fun summer and I’ll see you next year.
Thanks
Dave Higgens

Have you Heard?
This year, Rivelin has taken part in an art project co-ordinated by the
Children’s Hospital Charity. In the Autumn term, your generosity
helped us raise £500 for the charity and in return, the school was
given a fiberglass elephant model to decorate. A school-wide
competition ran to decide which design would be used and in the
end, there were so many fantastic ones that we put a few different
designs together. The children whose designs had been selected
spent a very enjoyable afternoon painting the elephant, showing off
their artistic skills. The elephant is now displayed in City Hall until
September, when it will be returned to school. Please take the
opportunity to go and see it, as well as all the other elephants that
will be around Sheffield!
