SGA Network

The SGA Network is a community of practice, creating a common
platform for ecosystem assessment practitioners, with the
intention to build capacity through:
• Training opportunities
• Capturing, synthesising and disseminating examples of best
practices and lessons learnt
• Developing e-learning tools
• Encouraging and supporting exchanges between and
amongst SGAs to share experiences
• Helping to build links with the scientific community

History of the SGA Network
• The SGAN was established in 2007 by UNEP and other key partners to
provide ongoing support to the SGAs catalysed either during the course
of the MA or in its wake
• The SGAN Secretariat is has been hosted by UNEP-WCMC in Cambridge
since 2011. The Network also has an Advisory Committee who provides
oversight and guidance into the work programme of the Network.
• The SGAN contains over 400 members who represent different aspects
of ecosystem assessments: practitioners, scientists and policy-makers
• The SGAN aims to support the activities of relevant global process such
as the IPBES and the biodiversity-related MEAs
