INSPIRING EXCELLENCE EVERY DAY
NEWSLETTER

April, 2016
____________________________________________________________________________
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents,
This year, as we end the season of Lent, we turn our thoughts to Easter and the joy and the hope that it
represents. Without Easter, without the Resurrection, we would face a future of darkness rather than the promise
of eternal life. Easter is truly a time of celebration! As we see signs of renewed life all around us in nature, we
realize that we can share in that renewal. What a sign of God’s love we experience with the Resurrection! We are
truly Easter people. Together, as parents and teachers, we face the future – with all of its challenges and all of its
opportunities – with renewed faith and hope as we voice our joyful “Alleluia”.
As we celebrated Holy Week in our school, we are reminded of Christ’s resurrection marking a new
beginning for us. It was a new covenant. Jesus took the sins of all people, of all times, upon himself, that through
His death all might live, fully alive, free from the slavery of sin, protected from death. It was the start of something
new for the people of God – a new understanding, a new vision, a love fulfilled. Despite the occasional snowfall
and cool breeze, spring promises to deliver her gifts. The sunshine is staying awhile longer each day, extending
the light and calling us to live more fully. The theme of Easter calls us to the same. As the rains refresh the earth
and bring new life, the Easter waters of Baptism bring new life and hope to each of us. Easter is the very basis for
our religion. It is the reason for our faith, hope and love. We celebrate for fifty days in our churches and schools
and we keep the knowledge and joy of Easter in our hearts each day of our lives.
The good news of Easter gives us meaning for life; indeed, it gifts us with everlasting life. It gives us
purpose for our existence as people and in our vocation as Catholic educators. Through our church, our schools
and our daily interactions, we spread the wonderful message of Christ. We have the opportunity to bring the joy of
Easter to the children in our care, by retelling the stories of Jesus’ followers after the resurrection and singing
Alleluia songs!
Let us rejoice in the signs of new life and thank God for His many gifts and celebrate God’s love for us! Be
sure that everyone knows that this is a time of rejoicing – fifty days of it! We will continue to celebrate Easter for
50 days. As a school we will pass on a sense of purpose and celebration as we Walk in The Light of Christ.
Take time to enjoy celebrating with your family and renew and refresh yourself. The Paschal mystery is
the joy of our salvation. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in
him might not perish but might have eternal life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, But that the world might be saved
through him. John 3:16‐17 But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, So that his works may be clearly seen
as done in God. John 3:21
We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song! May your Easter Season be blessed with God’s grace
and may He abide with you forever!
Sincerely yours in the Resurrection,
James Mule`
Principal
APRIL HONORABLE CHARACTER TRAITS:
Gr. 3-8: Persuasiveness
PK-Gr. 2: Forgiveness
BLUE RIBBON REPORT:
It was 18 years ago at this time that
we eagerly awaited word about
whether or not our school had
qualified as a National School of
Excellence. How excited we were in
1998 when we learned we had been awarded this
honor! What a GREAT accomplishment . . .
eighteen whole years have gone by, and we still
have the desire to move forward to continue to
improve.
Keep us in your prayers always as we strive for
excellence.
RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDERS:
As you know, we have been
taking re-enrollment for the
2016-2017 school year since
early January. If you wish to
have your child return to St.
Amelia
School,
we
are
reminding you to re-enroll as
soon as possible to ensure a place for your child
as many of our classes are close to being full.
Thank you very much for your cooperation. The
benefits of a Catholic education NEVER go out of
style. What our students learn lasts a lifetime.

FINANCIAL AID FOR PUPILS ATTENDING ST.
AMELIA SCHOOL:
There are many sources of
financial aid for students at our
school in Pre-Kindergarten and
Grades K-8:
the BISON Fund,
Friends of St. Amelia School,
Guardian Angel Fund, Kevin Long Memorial
Scholarship Fund, Joshua Arndt Memorial
Fund, and GAP (Group of Alumni Parents).
St. Amelia School provides about $40,000 in
financial aid to students each year. This money
comes from fundraising endeavors by parents and
gifts from friends of the school. A committee
reviews applications confidentially and determines
the amount of assistance to be granted.
Applications for all sources of financial aid are
available from our school office.
The deadline
for St. Amelia School aid is June 1. For all the
sources, the family must provide accurate financial
information. Each source will notify you, in a
timely manner, of the amount of assistance being
granted. These are wonderful opportunities for our
parents to receive assistance with tuition.
In addition to these sources, the school is willing to
work with parents who encounter unexpected
financial problems, even after the deadlines.
Parents can call the principal, James Mule`,
directly at the school (836-2230). Your call will be
confidential.
St. Amelia Tuition Board: Requests for financial
aid from the St. Amelia Tuition Board for the 20162017 academic school year must be made in

time for your conference

able to pick up your child’s report
card, review their data notebook and
portfolio for the year, and set goals
for the last quarter.
Your child will have his/her portfolio (folder of
work) and show you some of the things he or she
has done so far this year. Please use this time to
review the contents with your child. There will be
work samples that demonstrate your child’s growth
in reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and math.
Then you should take some time, and using the
conference organizer form, identify some of the

PRAISE and CHALLENGE:
Here are a couple of tips on how to praise and
challenge your child to be his/her best:

Talk with your child about his or her efforts:
When your child comes home from school, ask
questions like: “What did you learn today?”
“What mistake did you make that taught you
something?” and “What did you try hard at
today?” This will help your child think about
his/her efforts throughout the day. It will also
send the message that you appreciate his or her
hard work and persistence. This kind of dialogue
also helps children reflect upon what they did and
what and how they learned new things at school
that day.

Encourage, question, and notice: Encourage
your child’s effort rather than the results. “Wow,
you are working really hard on that! Just a little
more practice and you’ll have it down!” Ask your
children questions about what they did and did
not do well, and how they think they may be able
to improve for the future. Notice your children by
saying things like, “I see how hard you are
working on that puzzle” and “I see that you chose
to complete the sides of the puzzle first.” This
will help them reflect on their efforts and
remember successful strategies that they used
as well as providing your children with
acknowledgment.
Prizes awarded to the top sellers and the
prizes they will received are as follows:
Juliana Licht, Gr. K / Rm. 33 –$968 in sales,
awarded a $100 Scrip gift card.
