OVERVIEW
The purpose of this manual is to consolidate Technical as well as
Operational information of MotoSAT Television Products. It may be
used as a reference guide for the systems as they are presently
configured at the time of the writing of this manual. It is not intended
to provide a total view of all products but it will dwell on those that are
of most interest to the Canadian region. Systems may change from time
to time as well as software configuration and operation. This manual
contains data which is current as of the time of printing.
It is divided into many sections dealing with Nomad 2/3, Nomad
SD/SD2 Programming and options as well as Wiring Diagrams,
Layouts, Emergency Procedures, Connectivity, Warranty and Support
information. As you can see this manual can be a tool when dealing
with MotoSAT products. Keep it in a safe place and use it often. It is a
tool and not just a pretty booklet.
MotoSAT along with Tech Mobile are here to assist you in
whatever way that is possible. Our commitment is to excellence in
product and performance. If you have any suggestions that will make
this Training Manual better, please do not hesitate to call or email. We
are here to serve you.

Nomad 2/3
The Nomad 2/3 controllers are designed to work with all MotoSAT TV systems with
the exception of the FREEDOM domed system. They have capabilities of being configured
through the buttons on the front panel and can adapt to a variety of program providers and
LNB configurations. They are designed to operate independently of the satellite receiver.
That means that it will find their assigned satellite(s) by a simple connection of the coax to
the mount that leads eventually to the LNB and a control cable that supplies all of the
voltage to the motors with sensor feed back information. The controllers operate on 12
VDC. They are designed to loop the coax cable through the controller and onto the satellite
receiver.
NOMAD 2
NOMAD 3
The ONLY difference between the Nomad 2 and the Nomad 3 is that
the Nomad 3 will work with the GPS option.
5
LOADING NEW SOFTWARE
The Nomad 2/3 controllers can have their software reloaded through the use of a Serial
RS232 port at the rear of the controller. This can be accomplished by selecting on of two
(2) options.
OPTION 1
Programming can be accomplished by use of a SD card Programming Module. This
device converts a standard SD card to the 15 pin RS232 port on the back of the Nomad 2/3.
Using a SD card Programming Module
$79.95 option
6
The procedure for using this option is….
Operating Instructions
This Software Loading Module was designed to allow you to download new software
directly into your Nomad Controller. Follow these easy steps and you will be able to take
advantage of the latest in software technology.
Note: This process is limited to Microsoft PC’s. Sorry, no Mac’s at this time.
1. Go to MotoSAT’s WEB site at www.motosat.com
2. Go to “Downloads” and click on “Television Controller Firmware ” and select the
software that you want to download or here is the direct link,
http://motosat.com/index.php/dllsmenu/52-tcf
3. Open the compressed (zipped) file. At this point you can read the Revision History file to
see if the latest changes would affect you. If they do then continue.
4. Copy the .txt file onto your computer. We recommend that you create a “Nomad” folder
on your computer and “Paste” the .txt file to that folder.
5. Insert your SD card into your computer. Make sure that no other versions of software
exist on this card. The SD card must be empty.
6. Copy the Nomad .txt file that you just pasted into your Nomad folder and paste it onto
your SD card.
7. Insert your SD card into your Loading Module.
8. Turn the Power OFF on your Nomad.
9. Insert the Software Loading Module onto the back of the Nomad.
10. Turn the Power ON to the Nomad Controller
11. A Red led will begin to flash.
12. Once the light stops flashing (approximately 7-10 minutes) the new software has been
loaded.
13. Write the latest version of software that was loaded on the bottom of your controller.
You may do this as often as you feel necessary. We recommend that if you have problems
with your system we recommend that you check for new versions of software. Read the Revision
History to see if it applies. If it does, follow the instructions above. If you are in doubt please call
us. Our Tech Support help line is 1-800-247-7486. A technician will be more that happy to assist
you.
7
OPTION 2
Programming can be accomplished by use of a “special” adaptor cable that converts
the 15 pin to a 9 pin serial cable. This cable can be connected to your computer and
through the use of the following instructions upgrade the software as required.
Using the 9-15 pin cable
$21.95 Option
Required Equipment
1. Computer with 9 Pin Serial Port out (or adaptor).
2. Special 9-15 Pin Serial Cable (MotoSAT Part # CBL-SERIAL-DATA-10). A special

Nomad & Nomad 2 Software Update
This procedure outlines how to update the Nomad series controllers via your computer. A few key
things to note are:
*An automatic software upgrade module (MotoSAT Part # Module-Nomad (1) or (2)) is
available through MotoSAT if a computer isn’t available. This module attaches directly to
the back of the Nomad series controller enabling it to load the new software. It can be
ordered at No Charge. Customer will pay shipping (both ways). Module must be
returned otherwise customer will be billed $65.00 against their Credit Card. Contact
MotoSAT’s Tech Support for more information.*

NOMAD SD/SD2
The Nomad 2/3 controllers are designed to work with all MotoSAT TV systems with
the exception of the FREEDOM domed system. They have capabilities of being configured
through the buttons on the front panel and can adapt to a variety of program providers and
LNB configurations. The Nomad SD/SD2 controllers were designed to not only perform
with excellence but also provide a means for analyzing performance through capturing of
data which is stored onto an SD Card. The SD Card will also allow ease of loading new
software and or configuration if desired. They are designed to operate independently of the
satellite receiver. That means that it will find their assigned satellite(s) by a simple
connection of the coax to the mount that leads eventually to the LNB and a control cable
that supplies all of the voltage to the motors with sensor feed back information. The
controllers operate on 12 VDC. They are designed to loop the coax cable through the
controller and onto the satellite receiver if required.
Note: On the Nomad SD, the SD Card located in the back.

ON-LINE PRODUCT
WARRANTY REGISTATION
We pleased to announce that we have just launched a new option on
www.motosat.com. Now our customers will be able to register their MotoSAT
products through our website!
Customers will now have a reason for registering with our website as it will also
give them access to register their MotoSAT products. Located under the registered
user menu (you must first go through the registration process) there is now a menu
item for "TV Product Registration" and "Internet Product Registration".
These web forms will now compile every customer into a search able database
that can be cross referenced with every other form that we are currently working on
for production and QA in regards to tracking equipment serial numbers and purchase
dates. It will also help strengthen our customer service and make our customers and
dealers very happy as well as helping with some issues we have had in the past with
customer product registration.
These new online product registration forms will now store in a database, email
a copy of the registration to the customer and the installer/dealer for their own
records and will email a copy to our support team in a format that can easily be
implemented into our current tech report.
