and we look for ward to receiving their stories for the next issues.
Please note that we copied the texts as the children have written them, without
corrections, out of respect for their work. If your younger child’s work seems hard
to comprehend, ask her to read it out to you. NB: Some of the stories are dictations.
A special thanks to the teachers for helping to raise the children’s interest
and for transcribing the stories of some of our youngest writers.
We plan to issue the next magazine in April 2010.

The Shoemaker’s Nightmare
Once upon a time there was a Shoemaker.
Errrrrrrrr!!! Wait–let’s see the elves point of view.
Ok here we go.
Once upon a time there lived two elves who loved
to help out. They would sew, they would wash, but
never let anyone know they were there. One day,
they got a message that said a shoemaker needed
help, so they set off the next day. When they got
there they saw a little hut on the map.
“Ok the house should be this way, right?” asked the
boy elf.
“I think so,” said the girl elf.
So they set off again. They got about two miles in
elf measurement, but for us it was two steps. They
walked five miles and they were so tired they
collapsed.
“Come on!” the girl elf shouted, “It’s right there!”
“Oh,” the boy elf whispered.
They went under the door frame and saw the stuff
ready to be sewn. They stitched and sewed until
they finally finished. After, they made a house in
the side of the wall. The Elves woke up the next
morning to the sound of joy in the next room.
The next night, they peeked out of the wall and saw
two pairs of felt to be sewn.
“Wow now there’s a pair for both of us!” the boy elf
exclaimed. So they went to work. Two weeks pass.
“I have never been so tired!” the boy elf
complained.
“Ya,” the girl elf agreed.
Two months pass.
“Oh come on!” the girl elf shouted.
“We have been here two months and guess what?
No appreciation!” shouted the boy elf.
Turtle Stew 1/December 2009
They had now been there for a year. “You know
what? I quit!!!” The girl elf shouted.
“Ya me too!” yelled the boy elf.
So, they packed their bags. “Now we can finally go
on that cruise!”, they cheered.
That morning, the shoe maker woke up to a big
surprise. The felt that he had left out the night
before was still sitting there, un-touched.
“Wake up! Wake up!”
“What?” The lady asked.
“The elves–they’re gone!”
“Well, write them a letter,” the lady suggested.
“Good idea!” the shoemaker answered.
Dear Elves,
Please come back. We miss you very much.
From: The Shoemaker
He went to the post office that day and within a day
it got there.
“This is for us,” the boy elf told the girl elf.
“Oh,” the girl elf moaned.
“Well, open it!” the boy elf shouted.
“Ok, ok,” the girl elf exclaimed. So she opened it.
“Oh please, we just want to relax!” the girl elf
complained.
“What? He wants us to come back doesn’t he?” the
boy elf said.
“Well, let’s write back,” the girl elf suggested.
Dear Shoemaker,
NO WAY!
The Elves
When the letter arrived, the shoe maker read it.
“NOOOO!! Ahhh!!!” screamed the shoemaker as he
woke up. “Oh good, it was just a nightmare.”

My Little Classroom By The Sea
Hello! I’m here to tell you about my fun
classroom by the sea! I like my classroom
because my teachers make learning fun. For
instance, Ms. Victoria uses M and Ms for
examples in lessons to make them fun! Ms.
Lesley thinks up fun ways to help us learn and
Ms. Karen gives us neat art projects and is
very creative. My friends help me when I’m
stuck on a piece of work, i.e. math problem,
and I help them in return. I sometimes bring in
little gifts for my teachers to make them feel
good.
My fifth grade activities are fun too! In I.C.T.,
Mr. Brent has us go on a fabulous program
called Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. It’s really
fun and I love it!
In P.E., every month Ms. Karen changes the
sport we’re doing, and right now we’re doing
squash (the sport, not the veggie!) Now that
gets your reflexes going!
In Music Class, Ms. Allie has us sing songs for
the Christmas concert: “Love My Slippers”, “Il
es Ne” and “Light a Candle”. We also play the
recorder (please don’t bite!).
In French, Ms. Wendy helps us with “Il es Ne”
and we learn more French vocabulary.
At playtime, some of us have this trading
process, where we trade gems, rocks, shells,
tiles and sea glass. People have really good
Page 16
stuff, like Kali, Gabby and others. Ms. Victoria has
a cute little dog named Brindle, and she can get
extremely crazy sometimes. We like to play with
her when she’s not hyperactive, that is.
At lunch, we get to sit with whoever we want,
but no saving spots and no feet on chairs!
My favorite subjects are Science and Language
Arts. Math and Art are okay but I don’t really
like Geography. I like to watch the sparkling
blue sea through the sunroom windows. Oh,
here is a little poem about our wonderful beach.
The air is salty and refreshing,
the sea is sparkling blue,
I think I’d like to stay there,
just me and you.
The water’s cold and getting colder,
thank goodness there’s no boulder!
The waves are lapping on the shore,
it’s really not a bore!
Taa-daaaa! (It’s true!)
My school is very cool and eco-friendly, and the
teachers are nice. I would recommend
Montessori By The Sea to anyone who doesn’t
have a school to go to. That is My Little
Classroom By The Sea. (Arf! Sorry, and Brindle
too)

A new life for Joey and Moey
Chapter 1
One day there were two girls called Joey

we ask them, said Joey.
We can’t cause we don’t know them.
Joey thought for a moment and got an
idea! One day when they are out can we
go and join them?
Sure.
Turtle Stew 1/December 2009
Chapter 2
The next day Joey watched tv and plaed.
When she looked out she saw Moey
outside and went outside. At first she was
shy and slowly she got used to it and made
friends with her. They played games and
had fun. Joey and Moey had to go to school
the next day. They met their new teacher
and made new freinds Joey had lots of
freinds their names are Chloe, Josh and
Moey. Moeys frends names are Madeline,
Lucy and Joey. On friday the techer Ann

A new life for Joey and Moey part 2
Chapter 3
On friday a strange thing happened! An
orphan girl was walking on the street. Her
name was Ann. She was a very kind little
girl. When she walked by the post office she
saw the mail truck getting letters from the
post office but one of the mail fell! Ann
picked it up. She didn’t know what to do with
it so she read it. Here is what it said.
“Dear: Moey I love being your freind. But I
want to be freinds with your freinds. This is
how I think I should make freinds. First ask
their name. Then ask how old you are. Do
you think we could have a play date?
Love: Joey.
Ann thought that she should do the same
thing. On sunday she went to the park. She
saw two boys called Josh and Nick. Ann
went up to them and said Hi my name is Ann
whats yours? They both said their names.
Where do you come from? Josh and Nick
said where they came from. Ann showed
them the letter. Josh said that he was in
Moeys and Joeys class! Ann asked him if he
could give it to her he said yes so on
monday he went to school to give the letter
but Moey was sick! He just gave it to Joey.
On tusday Joey gave it to Moey. Moey read
it and was happy to get it. Moey went to her
cubby and gave her letter to Joey and they
were both happy.

Toys
Once upon a time there was a boy, his name was Roy.
And everyday he had a brand new toy,
One for each little friend be it boy or girl,
He’d give his pocket a whirl,
And there would be a toy to the child’s delight.
The only problem is that these toys only lasted one night.
So the girls thought twirling their curls,
whilst the guys gave each other high fives,
As they talked about knives
(why, the girls may never know but it’s just a guy thing.)
But when no decisions could be made they packed in for the day,

The Bionicles
Once upon a time there was a Bionicle named Matanooe. He
crash landed on a remote planet. He looked at a bug, putting it
near his mask and it turned into a shield that could blink. Then a
scorpion came and tried to attack him. He fought back and then a
man driving his car picked up Matanooe. They went to the city and
watched a match. The challenger won the match, but the other
guy tried to cheat. Matanooe tried to help the challenger. They met
another Bionicle in the challenger’s room.
The next day, all three of them went to the water tight Bionicle city.
As they were going to cross, a big monster stopped them. They
fought back, tried to go the other way but were stopped by

My name is Holly Carisy Jackson. I went to the park with my friends
Ammy, Samanta, Kaissaday and Megan. When we got there my cousins
were already there. My other friends were coming later. When we went
down this big hill we had a race on who has the best running skills. Luc
and Ammy were raceing against each other so Ammy pasted and
Samanta, Luc and Megan were raceing now. After that we went in the

Our little classroom by the sea
Our little classroom by the sea
is as perfect as perfect can be.
We work hard every day
and when worktime is done we go out to play.
The sea is blue, the sand is white,
everything is beautiful within my sight.
We have fun every day
and when work time is done, we go out to play.
That’s why I say,
our little school by the sea
is as perfect as perfect can be.
