A Message from
Lion President Guy Jandoo
Our First Charter Anniversary
We are proud to have reached our first anniversary and delighted to celebrate this evening in the company of
our fellow Lions, family and friends. Although we are a young club we have several members with between
five and ten years service in Lionism. This is because we evolved from a branch club of London Seven Kings
Lions and eventually chartered in November last year with 23 members.
Our club now has a mixture of experience and eager new members all working together to fulfil our remit of
helping those less fortunate. We applaud LCIF for the considerable work it does and we will continue to give
our support to the projects that are in place that will give aid to all sections of the national and international
community.
As well as raising much needed funds throughout the year, we have also endeavoured to increase our
fellowship amongst the wider Lions community by visiting other clubs and supporting their events. We have
also forged closer links with our local community by sponsoring a candidate for this year's Musical
competition, a football team in the forthcoming Youth competition, and a publication of Anti-bullying to be
given to local schools.
Our activities and achievements for the year are detailed further in this brochure as well as our plans for the
forthcoming year. I believe our membership will go from strength to strength and to date can be very proud of
the contribution we have made as a club to Lionism.
A lot of what we achieve at Fairlop would just not be possible without the loyal support of the general public
with their generous donations and attendance at the various functions we hold during the year. May I
therefore take this opportunity to thank them on behalf of all our members and request they continue to
support us in the future.
Finally, a very big thank you to everyone present this evening for supporting our first charter anniversary.
Guy Jandoo
Lion President
Lions Club of Fairlop.
A Message From
Ken and Margaret Rouse
Margaret and I would like to congratulate the President and members of
the Fairlop Lions Club on the occasion of their first charter anniversary.
We have been associated with this club since before its formation and on
other occasions since, and you are very quickly becoming a club that can
be relied upon to full fill the Ethics and Purposes of Lionism.
We are very proud to have Fairlop Lions Club as part of our zone, and we
would like to wish you a happy and successful first Charter Anniversary
and lots of success for the future.

Club Achievements
In 2006-2007 we managed to achieve a net growth of 5 members making a total
membership of 25 members. In the current year we have inducted a further
member but unfortunately have also had 2 resignations due to personal
circumstances. With a current membership of 24 the club is in a strong position
when compared to many other clubs.
This year marks ten year anniversaries for four of our members as follows:
Lion President Guy Jandoo
Lion Suman Patel
Lion Surrinder Rooprai
Lion Rana Nandhra
There are also five year anniversaries for a further two members as follows:
Lion Praful Chakravarti
Lion Dharmendra Patel.
The club wishes to congratulate all of the above for their dedicated service to
Lionism. All the above are also Melvin Jones award winners.
The club has been recognised for the growth in membership and a club Renewal
Patch for its future plans- please see letters that follow.
We also pledged to become a model club for CSF11 and this evening we will
fulfil this pledge by handing over a cheque for £5000 to the organising
committee.
Congratulations also go to Lion Tajinder Marway who received a Melvin Jones
award for his work in connection with CSF11.
Grace
In this ever changing world, may we always go forward together to help those
less fortunate that ourselves. For what we are about to receive, may the lord
make us truly thankful and ever mindful of the needs of others. Amen

Annual Vaisakhi Charity Dinner Dance 2007
Saturday 28th April 2007 was the date for our first event following our charter by
celebrating the festival of Vaisakhi. The function was held at the TROXY banqueting
hall in the east end of London with over 600 guests and the Mayor of Redbridge as our
special guest. We raised in excess of £20000 and we are most grateful to our loyal
supporters for their generosity. These monies will go towards the Eye Camps to be held
in 2008. Some of the images are shown below.

Annual Eye Camp 2007
Once again several of our members made their annual visit to India to help
set up and assist with the Eye Camps that we fund each year. In addition to
the well established camp in Punjab which has been operating for over ten
years, in 2006 we added a further camp in Gujarat. Our members take
almost three weeks out of their normal UK schedule to attend both camps
and entirely at their own cost.
At this years camp's we funded a total of 700 operations at a cost of £13000
which we raise from our annual Vaisakhi event held each year in April.
Below are some of the images and highlights from the camps.

An Evening with Punkaj Udas
This is probably our most prestigious event to date and a truly memorable
and enjoyable evening. Pankaj Udas is one of the most celebrated Indian
Classical singers of his generation and is known globally around the world.
His music has sold countless records and in the world of Indian music he is a
true superstar. With the help of Lion Pradip Santilal, we managed to secure
a private concert at our club's meeting place in Elmbridge and it was a sell
out. Rather than a fund raising event this was an opportunity to give
something back to our community who very much appreciated the evening.
Having said that we still managed to raise just over £1700 through ticket
sales which of course will go towards good causes.

Annual Charity Walk 2007
This year we held our charity walk at the Elmbridge Sports Club for the
benefit of Campaign Sight First 11.
This is an important LCI project and in its last year. We had already
pledged to be a model club and used this event to raise the necessary
funding.
It was a wonderful day for the walk after which there was a barbecue and
general merriment among the day's walkers and guests.
Special mention has to go to Lion Iqbal Abdeali who himself raised just
over £2600 following on from the £1800 he raised the previous year! Well done Lion Iqbal!!
The club will be donating £5000 to the CSF11 committee which reflects
the appropriate donation per member required to be eligible for model
club status.

Annual Golf Tournament 2007
The club held its inaugural Golf tournament last month and is intended to be a yearly
event to raise monies for those less fortunate. Golf has become a very popular sport and
pastime over the years for many Lions and this is reflected in the many tournaments
now present in the calendar year of various clubs.
The Golf was followed by a presentation evening and dinner which was attended by
the current Mayor of Redbridge. She accepted a cheque on the evening from our club
in favour of cancer care for an amount of £1000.
There were many trophies to various winners to be distributed and below are some of them

Our Sponsored Team in the forthcoming
Lions Youth Football Competition 2007
Lions Club of Fairlop is proud to be sponsoring a local under 14's football team in this prestigious competition
which is sanctioned by the English FA and UEFA.
The team we are sponsoring are ECLIPSE FC who play in the East London and Essex league and are pictured
below with the team coach John Fletcher in the back row.
The benefits of participating in such an event is that we as Lions members get the opportunity to meet
members from other clubs that we may never get the opportunity to meet, and for the team to play against
opponents and in towns that they may never have heard of, let alone been to before.
The competition has been running for a few years and this year has been restricted to one age group. It is a
national knock-out competition played between November and April with the semi-finals and final held at
neutral venues which in the past have been professional football league grounds.
The first round match took place on Saturday 17th November 2007 at our home ground the Elmbridge Club
against Berkhamstead Raiders who are sponsored by the Berkhamstead Lions Club. Sadly, the result did not
go in our favour as Berkhamstead ran out winners by 4-1. However, they were all winners on the day as the
match was played in a great spirit and Lions Club International are to be congratulated for organizing such a
wonderful competition which not only increases the awareness of Lionism but helps bring different
community's together.
Forthcoming Events 2007-2008
Our Sponsored Candidate for the European Musical Competition
We are delighted once again to be sponsoring a candidate for this year's competition which will
feature the Violin.
Our candidate will be Amanda Lake, pictured below with President Guy Jandoo, Past President
Suman Patel and Social Secretary Samir Mody. We thank her for agreeing to represent our club
and wish her the very best of luck!
The first round is due to take place in February 2008 which will determine the District winner.
Amanda began learning the violin with at the age of four. Having studied with Marius Bedeschi
for eight years, Amanda recently graduated from the Royal College of Music with a First, studying
with Dona Lee Croft. She is now undertaking further studies with Levon Chilingirian and Bela
Katona.
Amanda is also in demand as a chamber and orchestral musician. She leads the Alea quartet as
well as being a member of the Prince Consort Ensemble. She has given performances with these
groups in Downing Street, St Martins-in-the-Fields, Westminster Cathedral and Winchester
Cathedral, as well as performing at the Harmos Festival in Portugal and touring the United States
of America. Amanda was invited to lead the RCM Chamber Orchestra under Sir Roger Norrington
at the opening night of the festival “The Power of Mozart”.
