Health Partners joined the Advancement of
Multicultural and Minority Medicine (IAMMM) to
share best practices for reducing healthcare
disparities as part of the recent Martin Luther King
Jr. Health Equity Summit in Washington, DC. The
two-day summit brought together leaders from
across the nation to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.
and his quest for equality and to discuss efforts
to reduce healthcare disparities in minority communities.
Health Partners was the only managed care
organization in the country to participate. Mary K
Stom, MD, chief medical officer and senior vice
president, healthcare management, Health Partners,
shared Health Partners success in reducing
healthcare disparities. Dr. Stom also discussed the
health plan’s recent recognition as the first health
plan in the country to receive the Multicultural

Healthcare Distinction from the National Committee
for Quality Assurance (NCQA). “Health Partners
makes an effort to know our members as individuals
not as numbers,” said Dr. Stom. “Learning about their
different cultures and backgrounds allows us to create
health and wellness programs that address their multicultural needs and celebrate their diversity.”
Health Partners offers several multicultural
programs like the award-winning “Biggest Winner”
nutrition program, a 12-week nutrition series offered
in English and Spanish, which teaches members how
eating healthy foods and exercising can improve
health outcomes. The Biggest Winner was the
recipient of the Medicaid Health Plans of America’s
Award for Innovation and was recently featured on
the MHPA website as the Best Practice of the Month.
Don Wiggins Promoted to Urban General Sales Manager at Clear Channel Philadelphia

Radio Philadelphia today announced the promotion of
Don Wiggins from Director of Local Sales for WDAS FM
to Urban General Sales Manager adding WUSL FM
(Power 99 FM) and WUBA AM to his responsibilities.
Lewis said, “I have been impressed by the passion,
energy and vision Don Wiggins has brought to the
company and the positive impact he has made on our
urban brands.” John Rohm, President and Market
Manager for Clear Channel Philadelphia says, “Don
Wiggins has shown tremendous leadership and produced

the next level.” Loraine Ballard Morrill, Director of News

engagement efforts.” Wiggins says, “I embrace the
challenge of taking our heritage stations WDAS FM and
Power 99 FM as well as WUBA AM to greater heights in
revenue and community service. I’m ready!”
Wiggins came to Philadelphia from South Florida
where he was Sales Manager of Clear Channel Stations
103.5, Y-100, Mega 94.9, MIA 93.9, Big 105.9, WIOD
FM and WINZ FM. Don Wiggins has served in many
facets of the radio and Television world over his 40 year
career in the industry, including Morning Show
Announcer, Local Sales Manager, and Regional Sales
Manager and as an owner/vice-president. Wiggins began
his broadcast career as an announcer at WWWS-FM in
Saginaw, Michigan and served as an Account Executive in
Las Vegas, Nevada selling KTRI FM, a country western
station, Manager of WDZZ FM in Flint, Michigan,
General Sales Manager of the NBC and the FOX TV
affiliates and Manager of Cumulus Broadcasting in
Flint, Michigan.

The Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC), a division of the Philadelphia
Convention & Visitors Bureau, held its 17th Annual Recognition Luncheon on
Thursday, October 27th in honor of industry and community leaders who support
MAC’s mission to increase Philadelphia's recognition as a top multicultural tourism
and convention city. KYW newsradio community affairs reporter Karin Phillips was
recognized posthumously with MAC’s Legacy Award for her contributions toward
raising awareness about the activities and accomplishments of Philadelphia’s
multicultural convention and hospitality community. Her work supported many of
Philadelphia’s multicultural hospitality initiatives and conventions through the
years, from the national NAACP convention and the historic President’s House
unveiling after nearly a decade, to the exciting Philadelphia International Dragon
Boat Festival.

Temple women seek vendors for multicultural bazaar
Temple University Women of Color is requesting vendors to participate
in its Second Annual Multicultural Bazaar on Friday, December 2nd.
The event will take place at the Howard Gittis Student Center, located at 13th Street
and Montgomery Avenue on Temple's Main Campus.
The bazaar will run from 9am to 5pm.
Vendors will be able to sell their items at the event at a cost of $100 for one table and
$150 for 2 tables. Proceeds will go towards the TU-WoC Scholarship Fund, designated
for female students of color who attend Temple University
TU-WoC's purpose is to bring Temple University women of color together to meet and
connect and to identify professional development and networking opportunities.
