Anointing: Anytime upon request in the home of the sick.
Communion: A Priest, Deacon or Eucharistic Minister of the
parish will bring Holy Communion to those parishioners
confined to home. Please notify the Rectory when someone
is ill or admitted to the hospital.

A Word from our Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today’s feast of the Epiphany has been held very dearly by the Church ever since the beginning. In fact, the
Epiphany even pre-dates Christmas (which was introduced later as a way of “Christianizing” a popular pagan feast – the day of the Sun). It celebrates the manifestation of our Lord to the gentiles - to those like ourselves who did not originally have any share in the promises made to Israel. The three kings who visit Jesus
from afar represent all the nations who come to know and experience the Mercy of God, shown to us in
Christ – the deliverer. During this Jubilee Year, the Church continues to make this Mercy available to all
those who turn to the Lord with an earnest heart.
The “Infancy Narratives” underline the joy that is experienced by all upon the birth of the Prince of Peace.
The angels sing in exultation. The shepherds rejoice, and all who hear their message marvel at what they
hear. Mary, on her part, cherishes all these things in her heart. The three kings seek him with great expectation. The only one who is perplexed and worried is King Herod. He knew very well that the King of Israel
was to be born of David’s line, and when he hears his councilors’ response, he becomes really troubled – he
believes that this little child would one day dethrone him. What in reality Christ came to bring was peace,
even to Herod.
There is a `little Herod’ in each one of us. Like Herod, we feel many times that following Christ could be
very costly, and we seek to keep him out of our lives. We believe that in our little domain, we are the ones
in charge, and we leave little space for Christ.
There are also other “herods” who, dressed in sheep’s clothing, stubbornly persist in diluting the whole purpose of the Lord’s coming, and make Christianity look as if it were only a matter of being nice. When in reality, Christ has come to save us from our sins, and to make of us adopted children of God.
The three wise men realize that they would only benefit from the coming of the Savior into their lives. Not
only do they acknowledge his birth – they seek him out in order to pay him homage and present him gifts.
This Epiphany let us be more like the wise men, and less like Herod!

On a very different note, now that the Season of Christmas is drawing to a close, I wish to thank all the parishioners who sent greeting cards, gifts and treats to the priests and staff at the Rectory and the School. I
also wish to thank all those who ministered as Church decorators, musicians, ministers of the altar and of
hospitality, and in several other ways. The wording on many of the cards we have received truly underscore
your gratitude and generosity, both of which are greatly appreciated by those who serve you at St. Peter’s.
While my desire to personally respond to each one of you will probably not happen any time soon, be assured of my profound gratitude to all of you.

1- 9-16 at the K of C Hall at 98 Bridge St, we will be
collecting slightly used clothing, shoes, household
items, kitchenware, toys & games, small appliances,
electronics, sporting goods, books, CD'S and videos
from 1 to 5 PM. All items donated are cleaned and
resold in Second Avenue Thrift Stores. New items
are also welcome. All donors will receive information regarding a federal tax deduction.
Kindly consider any donation to this project which
funds programs to change what it means to be blind.

SENIOR CITIZEN’S PLEASE NOTE
The IRA Charitable Rollover has been extended
through 2015 and was passed permanently into
law. This law will allow individuals 70 1/2 or older
to move up to $100,000 from their IRAs directly to
qualified charities such as St. Peter’s, the Archdiocese of Newark, or another archdiocesan entity
without having to pay income taxes on the donated
money.

First Communion Students will be celebrating their First
Penance on Saturday, January 23rd and the following

Epiphany Proclamation 2016
Dear brothers and sisters,
The glory of the Lord has shone upon us, and shall ever be manifest among us, until the day of his return. Through the rhythms
of times and seasons let us celebrate the mysteries of salvation.
Let us recall the year's culmination, the Easter Triduum of the
Lord: his last supper, his crucifixion, his burial, and his rising
celebrated between the evening of the Twenty-Fourth day of
March and the evening of the Twenty-Sixth day of March, Easter Sunday being on the Twenty-Seventh day of March.
Each Easter -- as on each Sunday -- the Holy Church makes present the great and saving deed by
which Christ has forever conquered sin and death. From Easter are reckoned all the days we keep
holy.
Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, will occur on the Tenth day of February.
The Ascension of the Lord will be commemorated on the Fifth day of May.
Pentecost, joyful conclusion of the season of Easter, will be celebrated on the Fifteenth day of May.
And, this year the First Sunday of Advent will be on the Twenty-Seventh day of November.
Likewise the pilgrim Church proclaims the Passover of Christ in the feasts of the Holy Mother of
God, in the feasts of the Apostles and Saints, and in the commemoration of the faithful departed.
To Jesus Christ, who was, who is, and who is to come, Lord of time and history, be endless praise,
for ever and ever. Amen.

NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Our entire school ended the year with a special celebration. All the students and faculty enjoyed a delicious and fun-filled Breakfast with Santa. We greatly
appreciated the surprise appearance by St. Nick who
took the time out from his busy schedule to visit our
children.
Everyone joined in an Advent prayer and the lighting
of the last candle on the Advent wreath. It reminded
us all that the birth of Jesus is the true reason for the
season.
As the year 2015 ends we at St. Peter’s School are
preparing for Catholic Schools’ Week and registration for the 2016-2017 school year.

The Epiphany of the Lord
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Epiphany celebrates God’s mercy shining
on the magi from a guiding star.
Their kingdoms were far from Jerusalem, their religions far from God’s
covenant with Israel. At first the star
led the magi to Jerusalem, where
they could “recalculate” their quest
with the help of God’s own “GPS,” the Jewish scriptures. How challenging and humbling for the magi to
discover that they would find the world’s Messiah not
in a palace but with a poor couple in an insignificant
village. That’s where God’s mercy, shining in the star,
led the magi to worship Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Today the magi invite us to “recalculate” our life’s journey during this Jubilee Year—to follow the star of
God’s mercy along the way of humble love, to discover
a renewed personal relationship with Jesus ourselves
and so become “guiding stars” leading other seekers to
find Jesus, too.
The St. Peter’s School community is looking forward
to 2016. May the New Year bring you the “Best
Days”.

La Epifanía del Señor
En este A ño Jubilar de la Misericorida, la Epifanía celebra la
misericordia de Dios brillando sobre
los reyes magos desde la estrella que
los guía. Sus reinos estaban muy
lejos de Jerusalén, sus religiones
muy lejos de la alianza de Dios con
Israel. Al principio la estrella guió a
los magos a Jerusalén en donde ellos
podrían “recalcular” su búsqueda con la ayuda del propio
“GPS” de Dios, las Escrituras judías. Que humilde y consternado debió ser el momento en que los magos vieron al
Mesías del mundo no en un palacio sino con una pareja
pobre en un pueblito insignificante. Ahí es donde está la misericordia de Dios, brillando en la estrella que guió a los magos a adorar a Jesús, el Príncipe de la Paz. Hoy los reyes
magos nos invitan a “recalcular” nuestro camino de vida
durante este Año Jubilar, siguiendo la estrella de la misericordia de Dios a lo largo del camino de amor humilde, para
descubrir una relación personal renovada con Jesús hacia
nosotros mismos para que podamos convertirnos “estrellas
guías” dirigiendo también a otros buscadores a encontrar a
Jesús.

PROCLAMACION DE LA EPIFANIA DE 2016
Queridos hermanos:
La gloria del Señor se ha manifestado y se continuará
manifestando entre nosotros, hasta el día de su retorno
glorioso.
En la sucesión de las diversas fiestas y solemnidades del
Tiempo,
recordamos y vivimos los misterios de la
salvación.
Centro de todo el año litúrgico es el Triduo Pascual del
Señor crucificado, sepultado y resucitado, que este año
culminará en la Noche Santa de Pascua que, con gozo,
celebraremos el día 27 de marzo.
Cada domingo, Pascua semanal, la Santa Iglesia hará
presente este mismo acontecimiento, en el cual Cristo ha
vencido al pecado y la muerte.
De la Pascua fluyen, como de su manantial, todos los
demás días santos: el Miércoles de Ceniza, comienzo de
la Cuaresma, que celebraremos el día 10 de febrero. La
Ascensión del Señor, que este año será el 5 de mayo. El
Domingo de Pentecostés, que este año coincidirá con el
día 15 de mayo. El primer Domingo de Adviento, que
celebraremos el día 27 de noviembre.
También en las fiestas de la Virgen María, Madre de Dios,
de los apóstoles, de los santos y en la Conmemoración
de todos los fieles difuntos, la Iglesia, peregrina en la tierra, proclama la Pascua de su Señor.
A él, el Cristo glorioso, el que era, el que es y el que
viene, al que es Señor del tiempo y de la historia, el honor y la gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
