Dear friends,
NWIHRC CHAIRMAN & PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee it is our pleasure to wish you a very
happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We sincerely thank all the volunteers for their selfless seva, all
the donors for their generous donations and all the members for their tremendous support for making 2014
a memorable year. As IACC continues to move forward in redefining itself in many areas, we recognize
the needs ahead and are fully prepared to address them with the help of each and every member of the
community.
We promised you last year, that we will try to cut costs, increase revenue and make our finances transparent.
As a result, we have included a financial summary in this newsletter which depicts our improved
performance. Our debt has been reduced to a very manageable amount and with your help we hope to
make our temple debt free by the end of 2015. As you can see, we still need a lot of support from our
donors in enhancing our financial stability.
We have attached the minutes of the general body meeting held on December 15th, 2014 for your perusal.
Our updated bylaws are at the office and are available upon your request.
Our fundraising Gala this year is entitled “Rhythms of India” and will be held on April 11th 2015. Please
mark your calendar. We encourage all of you to participate and support the community.
The Year 2015 is a major milestone for our temple. We will be celebrating the 5th anniversary of this
beautiful temple. We are further pleased to share with you that, Shri. Shastriji, has accepted our invitation
to bless and honor our temple on this occasion.
This newsletter also contains information about all the upcoming events and festivals of 2015. We have
printed 2015 calendars, which can be picked up at the temple, if you have not done so as of yet.
Weekly eblast contains important announcements and event information. Please spend one minute of
your time to open and glance through it. If, for whatever reason, you are not getting the eblast, we have
attached information about how to self-subscribe in this newsletter. If you are still having trouble getting
the eblast, please contact Dr. Harishbhai Shah.
We are hoping to have our permanent priest soon, once the inspection from INS is complete. Finally we
would like to thank the IMA and Past President Dr. Vijay Dave for their generous donation.

[email protected] to see how best you could help.
Once again, I request all the donors, trustees, executive board members and our community members to participate and sponsor
different poojas and festivals and support our Temple.
Updates about our priests: We have filed R1 for two young priests from India, who will arrive as soon as INS permits.
Mark this and inform all your friends that everyone is welcome to join any festivity at the Temple.
There is no charge to attend festivals or for any Prasad offered.

Minutes of General Body Meeting - Dec 14, 2014
Page 6
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. It started with a prayer and a moment of silence for Late Mr J.K. Shah and Dr
Nagubadi
The minutes of the December 2013 general body meeting were approved.
Chairman Dr Surendra Shah summarized the 2014 activities. The year started with a rough winter and flooding of the Hall. A
significant amount of time was spent to repair the Hall. A new partition was installed. The Foyer and the Hall were partially
painted. The trim and damaged wallpaper were changed. Insurance covered most of the cost. The thermostats were changed with
an additional remote control capability to monitor the temperature. A majority of the light bulbs were changed to L.E.D. bulbs
with a NIPSCO subsidy. The application with Nipsco was filed for tax-exempt status, which has been approved. The application
has also been filed for a rebate on the past 3 years of taxes paid on gas and electric bills.
Vasisthaji left during the first week of March and we were struggling with a temporary Priest since than. The Priest search
committee met multiple times and interviewed multiple candidates for the permanent priest position. It was decided to hire
priests from India. We have applied for R1 visa for two bright young priests and hopefully they will be here in the 1st Quarter of
2015.
Then President Dr. Shaileshbhai updated on the upcoming events. Our annual fundraising Gala dinner is planned for April 11th
2015. The Temple Anniversary and Devipuran will be in June and various temple events will be conducted throughout the year.
Shaileshbhai also thanked the outgoing board members Vijay Dharla, Kewmar Bomboat and Aruna Chawbal. He welcomed the
incoming members Jay Chauklingam, Deepak Patel and Rupan Kansal. Also Vijay Dharla has been appointed as Hall co-chair.
Dr Vijay Shah presented the financial report. All the questions from Dr Panna Barai, Dr Amarnath Aggrrawal, Mrs Shaku
Sharma and Mr Parimal Prikh were answered.
Dr Vijay Dave, President of IMA NWI converted a $100,000 Interest free loan into a donation. He will also donate $8000 for a
new projector in the Hall.
Dr Unni presented the bylaws changes and these were discussed in detail. Various members gave their input and valuable
comments. It was passed with an amendment from Dr Parikh that all bylaws changes will be sent to the executive and trustee
board for their reference before bringing it for a vote during the general body meeting.
Dr Parikh gave details about the upcoming Anniversary and Katha celebration
Mrs Shaku Sarma requested that members sign up as volunteers and renew Abhisek sponsorship. Mrs Ghuman suggested better
advertising for events. Mrs Rupan Kansal suggested solar panels as alternate means for energy. Dr Harish Shah suggested proper
help for secretary and bookkeeping. Also housing needs for the 2nd priest were discussed.
The meeting was adjourned with a prayer at 2:05 p.m.

Honor the Food
Page 12
The Five Contemplations
1. This food is the gift of the whole universe: the earth, the sky, numerous living
beings and much hard, loving work.
2. May we eat with mindfulness and gratitude so as to be worthy to receive it.
3. May we recognize and transform our unwholesome mental formations, especially
our greed, and learn to eat with moderation.
4. May we keep our compassion alive by eating in such a way that we reduce the
suffering of living beings, preserve our planet, and reverse the process of global
warming.
5. We accept this food so that we may nurture our sisterhood and brotherhood,
strengthen our community, and nourish our ideal of serving all living beings.

Believe it or not our Fifth anniversary is coming up. We have, with the grace of our God, been blessed with a wonderful
community, a Bharatiya Temple, community center and a cohesive group of dedicated volunteers who make every event a
fulfilling one.
To celebrate this we plan to have a discourse on Devi Bhagwat, a Nav Chandi Yagna and program of participation from our
youth while they learn about Ma Durga.
There will be a discourse by Shri Giriraj Shashtriji on Devi Bhagwat. As you all know he is well worse in various Hindu
Religious texts and a Sanskrit scholar who with his engaging style and melodious voice engages the participants.
Highlights of our week celebration:
The discourse will start on June 5 in the evening and will continue thru June 11. Our usual Varshik Mahotsav will follow the
discourse on June 12th and June 13th, and Jain Pratistha Mahotsav on June 14th. We have a lot planned for you: Devi Chowki
on June 7, 2014, Nava Chandi Yagna in the morning of Saturday June 13, a special essay writing competition and a
performance by our kids to celebrate Universal mother as Saraswati, Durga and Lakshmi. Visit our Website more often for
details @ www.Bharatiyatemple-NWIndiana.org
Significance of Goddess Mother:
Maa Durga-is the goddess of power and strength. She represents the power of the Supreme Being. She is multi-dimensional
with many names like Mahishasuramardini, Sati, Kali, Parvati, Bhawani, Basanti, Amba etc.
Durga through all her forms shows the essence of salvation (saving people from danger or sin) and sacrifice. She is the Goddess
of wealth (Lakshmi) and also of beauty and knowledge (Saraswati). The Sanskrit word DURGA means a fort or a place that is
protected and difficult to reach. Durga, also called Divine mother that protects mankind from evil and misery by destroying evil
forces such as selfishness, jealousy, hatred, ego and, anger.
We need and invite each and every one of you to support the community event such as this with your active participation.
We want you to learn about our incredible culture while you enjoy and contribute with your ideas and expertise.
We have formed various committees to share the work such as: Set up and Decoration; Anna Danam and Food Service:
Manage Yagshala, Marketing and Souvenier, to Procure and manage supplies, and a daily coordination for all these activities.
Please contact at [email protected] with any suggestion or contact any of the Devalaya Committee members or call
