2016 GRADUATES TOP PROSPECTS LIST
1. STRATON PODARAS - Chaminade, C: Well rounded player. Excellent catch and throw guy with a quick
release. Pop time has consistently been clocked sub 2.0 to second base. Blocks fundamentally well. Becoming a good
line drive hitter, good base runner as well. Starting on varsity as a Sophomore.
2. ROB WEISSHEIER- Kellenberg, C/1b: Big, strong middle of lineup hitter. Has very good power. Drives
the ball to both fields. Hits for average as well. Athletic for his size. Solid defensively both behind plate and at 1B.
Quick release behind the plate and accurate.
3. SEAN HOGAN- Holy Trinity, C: LH hitting catcher who uses all fields offensively. Makes consistently hard
contact. Tough out at the plate doesn’t strike out very often. Very strong and accurate arm. Soft hands as receiver.
Started on Varsity as a freshman.
4. ALVIN MELENDEZ- St. Mary’s, CF/P: Good 2 way player. Athletic projectable body. Smooth
defensively, glides to ball and has good arm strength. Runs very well. Shows gap to gap power. Has very good velocity
on the mound, with good command of off speed pitches.
5. KYLE MARTIN- Oceanside, SS/P: Another very solid 2 way player. Consistent defensively at SS with a
plus arm. Excellent top of the order hitter. Very effective on the mound. Good presence.
6. GRANT ELGARTEN- Friends Academy, OF/P: Has a really big upside. Strong offensive player with
power. Runs well. Low to mid 80’s fastball. Developing off speed pitches. Can be an a two way impact player.
7. JAMES KORY- West Islip, 1B/P: Strong RHP with a power arm and demeanor. Attacks hitters with a lot of
success. Throws down hill. Has power at the plate. Can drive the baseball. Good extra base power.
8. RAY WEBER- West Islip, INF/P: Very athletic actions. Moves well. Loose arm action on mound. Has more
velocity in his arm. Good off speed pitches. Solid defensively with a plus arm. Shows power at times offensively.
9. GARRETT HEATON- Bellport, MINF: LH hitter, really effective top of the order hitter. Patient approach.
Has a lot of quality at bats. Makes solid contact. Moves well in the infield. Very solid hands with good actions. Plays
intelligently.
10. LOU ANTOS- West Islip, INF/P: Middle of order hitter. Gap to Gap hitter who has ability to generate plus
power. Drives the ball. Power pitcher on the mound. Challenges hitter. Solid hands at third base.
11. MARC WANGENSTEIN- Connetquot, OF: Outstanding offensive player. Can flat out hit. He shows
tremendous gap to gap power. Also runs very well. Can be an offensive force. Developing in OF.
12. SAM KESSLER- Mt. Sinai, MINF/P: Good RHP. Throws with a low ¾ delivery and is deceptive
especially to RH hitters. Has a lot of movement on all of his pitches. Excellent range in the infield with a plus arm.
Solid contact hitter at the plate.
13. KYLE STROVINK- Rocky Point, C: Has plus arm strength behind the plate. Good athleticism with a
high ceiling as a catcher. LH hitter with excellent power potential. Interesting prospect.
14. CONNOR SULLIVAN- St. Dominic's, CF/P: Prototypical LH leadoff hitter. Uses all fields. Excellent
bunter, can bunt for a hit at any time. Is a threat to steal at all times due to his great jumps. He has a gap to gap
approach. Runs well in the OF with good carry on throws. Big upside as he becomes more consistent.
15. MICHAEL SCHWARTZ- Bellmore JFK, OF/P: LHP with good command. Has excellent velocity and
challenges hitters. Bright future on mound. Also a well rounded position player. Has ability to be a middle of lineup
hitter.
16. KYLE YOUNG- St. Dominic's, LHP: 6'8 LHP with a huge upside. Low 80's velocity. Throws the ball
downhill. Fastball has natural sink. Sky is the limit depending on the development of his off speed pitches.
17. RYAN STEFFENS- Commack, RHP/OF: High ceiling prospect. Has outstanding arm strength with the
ability to overpower hitters. Developing mound presence. May throw very hard 1 day. Shows some power offensively
at times.
18. HUNTER KAUCKY- William Floyd, LHP/1B: Strong aggressive approach on mound. Fastball has late
life. Also has the potential to develop an outstanding breaking ball. Competitor. Solid defensively at 1B. Has some gap
power at the plate.
19. NICK ROBINSON- Holy Trinity, RHP: Has good feel and mound presence. Low 80's FB with a
projectable frame. Loose arm action. Gets a lot of swings and misses. Developing a solid breaking ball.
20. JOHN LAROCCA- St. Dominic's, OF/P: Very good athlete. Potential 5 tool player. Runs well with plus
arm strength. Very good base runner. Makes consistently hard contact. Good velocity on the mound.
21. JULIEN ARCOS- Chaminade, RHP: Effective RHP. Low to mid 80's FB with a power breaking ball.
Has the ability and stuff to get a lot of strikeouts. Potential to be a very good college pitcher.
22. NICK GRANDE- Smithtown West, MINF: Tough hard nose competitor. Does everything well. Top of
the order hitter with a high OBP. Excellent base runner. Can play solid defense. Leader.
23. SEAN ROONEY- Bayport Blue Point, INF/P: Very athletic actions. Quick feet plays game
aggressively and at a fast pace. Runs well. Has plus arm strength. Played varsity as a freshman.
24. NICK VITALE- Ward Melville, INF/P: Solid all around player. Switch hitter at plate with developing
strength. Intelligent base runner. On defensive side he has quick feet and good instincts. Winning player.
25. GREG KWIECINSKI- St. Dominic's, MINF: Very smooth defensive MINF, excellent feet and hands.
Solid arm strength. Offensively he is getting stronger and developing gap power. Good prospect with a solid frame to
grow into.
26. JOHN LOCURTO- Carle Place, 2B/P: Strong offensive player. Has some juice in his bat. Displays
power. Effective RHP. Has good sinking fastball. Throws strikes.
27. BILLY HUBER- Hauppauge, MINF: Very good athlete. Has excellent range and quick feet. Has good
speed and puts pressure on the defense with offensive abilities. Contact hitter with ability to drive the ball.
28. JAMES MESSINA- New Hyde Park, MINF/P: Classic SS actions. Smooth through the baseball.
Effortless. Contact hitter. Effective RHP. Good movement on fastball. Attacks the strike zone.
29. TRISTAN AMONE- Patchogue Medford, LHP: Strike thrower, good breaking ball with plus
command of it. Keeps hitters off balance with a good mix of pitches.
30. BRANDON FANIZZA- Massapequa, 1B/3B: Excellent hitter. Patient approach. Gets in good hitters
counts. Makes consistent hard contact. Serious gap power. Improving range defensively. Soft hands. Bright future.
31. VINNY NAPOLITANO- St. Dominic's, INF/P: Solid all around player. Productive offensive tools. Has
gap to gap abilities. Has a potential power arm as a RHP. Projectable.
32. SEAN LEGUERNIC- HHH West, RHP: Has legit power arm. Throws a "heavy fastball" with good sink.
Excellent pitchers build with a projectable body. Developing off speed will take him to the next level.
33. MATT BERECHE- Commack, RHP: Has deceptive velocity. Throws hard and generates a lot of
strikeouts with swings and misses. Good downward bite on his breaking ball.
34. ANDREW GRIEVE- Sachem North, OF: Best baseball is ahead of him. Made the full time switch to OF
last year. LH hitter with gap to gap abilities. Runs very well. Good frame to develop.
35. JUSTIN CANCEL- St. Dominic's, 3B/P: Quality LH hitter. Has big frame with power. Uses all fields
well. Above average arm defensively.
36. ANTHONY SCHELLER- Sachem East, OF: Excellent leadoff hitter. LH hitter who makes hard
contact. Can really run, great on the base paths. Outstanding defensive CF.
37. REID ORESTE- Bellmore JFK, C: Solid fundamental player. Brings good energy to catching position.
Blocks well and controls the running game. Line drive contact hitter.
38. VINNY AMALFITANO- St. Anthony's, OF: Versatile outfielder. Well rounded skill set. Has good
instincts defensively with an above average arm. Line drive hitter.
39. GREG HAYNES- New Hyde Park, RHP: 6'4 RHP with intimidating presence. Fastball gets on top of
hitters quickly. Throws downhill. As he develops off speed pitches he has potential to dominate.
40. TYLER ARELLA- John Glenn, LHP: Good feel for pitching. Works quickly, throws strikes. Mixes his
pitches well with a plus breaking ball. Also shows a great pickoff move
41. DAN MULLANE- Holy Trinity, OF: Corner OF with good power. Has the ability to hit homeruns.
Developing defensively. Above average arm.
42. TROY SIMPSON- Longwood, RHP: Big frame. Power RHP. Gets good arm side run on fastball. Has the
potential for a plus changeup. Rapidly improving overall.
43. CHRISTIAN NISSEN- Connetquot, MINF: Top of the order hitter who can spray ball around the field.
Smart player. Fundamentally sound defensively. Has the arm to play SS.
44. DYLAN LIVINGSTON- Port Washington, P/OF: Has an electric arm. Ball jumps on top of hitters.
Breaking ball can be an out pitch. He generates a lot of swings and misses. Good defensive outfielder with good carry
on his throws. Shows some power at the plate.
45. JIMMY CONWAY- St. Dominic's, OF/P: Very good offensive player. Line drive hitter who uses the
gaps. Good plate discipline. Solid OF with good velocity on the mound.
46. JONATHAN CAPOBIANCO- Glen Cove, 3B/1B: Offensive force. Hits the baseball with authority.
Excellent bat speed. Has the chance to be a legit power threat.
47. MIKE STILES- Comsewogue, RHP/MIF: Smooth efficient delivery. Outstanding CB with the ability to
throw it for strikes. FB has a lot of late life with excellent sink. Challenges hitters. Solid MIF.
48. JOE SUOZZI- Chaminade, OF: Top of the order hitter. Good offensive player with plus bat speed. Puts
pressure on the defense with his speed. Solid defensive OF with the ability to play CF. Knows how to play the game.
49. JAKE GARGIULO- Calhoun, OF/P: Good 2 way player. LH hitter with good pull side power. Solid
contributor on the mound. Challenges hitter with a sinking fastball.
50. SKYLER GRAFF- Syosset, MINF/P: High energy player. Versatile offensively. Very smart player with a
high OBP and is patient at plate. Makes all the plays on defense. Soft hands. Can get outs on the mound. Solid pitcher
with a good mix of pitches.
