XENIA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION
June 10, 2013
Roll Call
The Xenia Community Schools Board of Education met in regular session
on the tenth day of June, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Xenia Board of
Education, 578 E. Market Street, Xenia, Ohio. The meeting was called to
order by President Steven Alex and the roll was answered as follows: Mr.
Steven Alex, present; Mrs. Lee Rose, present; Dr. R. P. Dillaplain, present;
Mrs. Barbara Stafford, present; and Mr. William Spahr, present.

of Funds
Upon recommendation of the Treasurer, Mrs. Stafford moved, seconded by
Mr. Spahr to approve the transfer of $7,787.50 from the Xenia High School
Office Account to the Xenia Community Schools Curriculum account to
cover the cost of the Rosetta Stone Licenses for the 2012-2013 school year,
as attached.

of Funds
Upon recommendation of the Treasurer, Mr. Spahr moved, seconded by

Fund and State/Federal Grant Funds not to exceed $133,095.76 from the
General Fund. Detail listing will be provided at the July 2013 regular board
meeting.

Adoption of Pickup
for Teaching and
Administrative Staff
Upon recommendation of the Treasurer, Mrs. Stafford moved, seconded by
Mr. Spahr on the following resolution:
Be it resolved, effective 07/01/2013, the Xenia Community School District
agrees to “pick-up” the total amount of employee contributions required by
Section 3307.26 of the Ohio Revised Code to be contributed by Teachers to
STRS Ohio. Xenia Community School District is permitted to pick up
employee contributions pursuant to Section 3307.27 of the Ohio Revised
Code and Section 414(h)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code. These picked-up
contributions, although designated as employee contributions, are being
paid by the Xenia Community School District in lieu of employee
contributions and shall be treated as mandatory salary reduction from the
contract salary otherwise payable to the employee.

Upon recommendation of the Treasurer, Mrs. Stafford moved, seconded by
Mr. Alex on the following resolution:
Be it resolved, effective 07/01/2013, the Xenia Community School District

Elementary, Shawnee Elementary and Tecumseh Elementary, as attached.

Good of the Order
 Mr. Spahr congratulated the retirees and students who were
recognized at the meeting; commented on the successful high
school graduation and how positive it was and reported on the
proposed changes regarding H.B. 59 and how it would affect
vocational schools.
 Mrs. Herman congratulated the retirees, reported on attending the
CMS awards assembly and the 6th grade orientation and remarked
that she was looking forward to working with the teachers and
students again and thanked the board for that opportunity.
 Mrs. Fielding reported on the Summer School Program at Cox
Elementary and being able to provide breakfast and lunch to the
students as well; and gave an update on the Central Office move to
the old McKinley building.
 Dr. Piotrowski congratulated the graduates and scholarship
recipients and XCS retirees; praised the staff at WMS for their
attention to the students and parents; congratulated LeShaun
Latimer on her son’s long jump victory at the State Track Meet and
the girls’ track team victories as well.
 Mrs. Stafford congratulated the retirees, the McKinley straight-A
students and the CMS Band students; commented on the graduation
ceremony being very positive and reported that BRACA awarded
Shawnee Elementary with a tree for the Arbor Day Event.
 Dr. Dillaplain congratulated the graduates and thanked the teachers
and staff for making it possible; expressed his exchange student’s
appreciation for the opportunities while attending XHS; and reported
on the many activities that he attended that showcased the student’s
high level of achievement.

 Mrs. Rose congratulated the retirees and thanked Mr. Manley and
the Race to the Top team for their hard work and updates;
congratulated the CMS band and McKinley straight-A students; and
commented on the high school graduation and the accomplishments
of the students.
 Mr. Alex thanked the retirees and students; commented on the high
school graduation; congratulated the CMS band students and the
district on another successful year; and thanked Mr. McKee for his
diligent effort on getting the district on better financial footing.
Mr. Spahr moved, seconded by Mrs. Stafford that the regular meeting be
adjourned.

JOB DESCRIPTION – ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Qualifications:
1.
State of Ohio Administrative Certificate/License preferred.
2.
Degree/Masters in administration, sports management or related degree
3.
Coaching and administrative experience.
4.
Valid Driver's License.
5.
Must possess and maintain pupil activity, CPR and AED certification.
6.
Must complete Hepatitis B vaccination series (3)or sign waiver.
7.
Meet the legal requirements relative to a criminal background check.
General Description:
The Athletic Director must coordinate, supervise and evaluate the total
interscholastic athletic program in the best interest of the students, complying
with all Xenia Board of Education policies. The Athletic Director shall ensure
cost-effective program management and coordinate and approve all fundraising
projects and contributions to cover the cost of all athletic programs less the cost
of administrative salaries and fringe benefits.
Essential Functions:
1.
In collaboration with principals and Director of Personnel, ensure all
coaches/volunteers are recommended for approval by the Board of
Education prior to beginning activities with students.
2.
Ensure all coaches have met pupil activity, CPR, and AED certification
requirements.
3.
Develop and place into operation the appropriate rules and regulations
enforce Ohio High School Athletic Association, Southwest District,
League, and Xenia Board of Education rules and regulations relative to
athletic programs.
