“The Warren”
MACHRIHANISH GOLF CLUB
Situated on the Kintyre Peninsula 140 miles by road from Glasgow, Machrihanish Golf Course is
well-known throughout the world as a first-class natural links course.
Described in 1878 by Old Tom Morris as
“specifically designed by the Almighty for playing golf”
the course presents golfers with a challenging and spectacular opening drive across Machrihanish Bay.
This first hole was recently voted the finest in the world.
Little has been changed to disturb the natural scenic beauty and inspiring challenge of this
delightful course. The outward nine holes follow the hills and hollows among the sand dunes
bordering the Atlantic. Each hole requires accurate tee shots and carefully chosen irons to reach
the expertly maintained putting surfaces.
A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU!

The Warren, built in the 1890’s as a golfing lodge, opposite the 18th Green is a perfect place to stay when visiting Machrihanish. All our rooms are
comfortable and are en-suite. There is a Guest Sitting Room with satellite TV and tea/coffee making facilities and a nearby Games Room with full
sized table tennis table. For those rare inclement days, we have the best drying facilities around to ensure that the next days golf starts dry! There is
ample parking and an acre of fine garden to explore. Internet access is available on request.
Westbank Guest House
Dell Road, Campbeltown, Argyll, PA28 6JG
The inward nine holes are no less demanding as they stretch back home against the backdrop of Kintyre
hills. Two par fives and three tricky par threes have to be negotiated until, within sight of the clubhouse,
the Machrihanish burn has to be driven while avoiding the out of bounds which borders the final two
holes. With the variable strength and direction of the wind, the course can provide a completely new
challenge each time it is played.
There is also a nine hole golf course with a Ladies Clubhouse and 2 practice areas.
A Victorian villa in a quiet residential area near to all town amenities.
Ideal base for the famous Machrihanish Golf Links. Machrihanish is a
short drive away.

MACHRIHANISH GOLF CLUB
RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATION
In 1876 several local dignitaries of Campbeltown visualised a golf course set amidst the spectacular
sand dunes near Machrihanish. Situated on the west coast of Scotland miles from the nearest railway
station and accessible only by steamboat then carriage, the Kintyre golf club created a ten hole course.
During 1879 notable course alterations were carried out by four times open championship winner
Tom Morris of St. Andrews who commented on his first visit to Machrihanish that

The course was redesigned in 1914 by three times open championship winner J.H. Taylor.
Untouched for almost thirty years further alterations were carried out during and after the second world
war by Sir Guy Campbell, the result was the course as we know it today.
The club has hosted the Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Championship in May 1990 and May 2000, and the
Scottish Boys Amateur Championship for the first time in July 2004.
