PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
ISN’T IT GREAT WHEN………………………... we have an opportunity
for our grade six children to be buddies for our preps? This provides them with
chances to help them, guide them and just be there for them. Often when you
are out in the yard you will see prep children run up to their buddies and give
them a hug. We have two of our grade six children who have written a report
about the program after interviewing their buddies to share with you.
2014 Buddy Program
Preps
Ashlyn and Skye are very happy about having a buddy for their first year of
primary school because they are able to colour in fun activities with their
buddies. Ashlyn‘s favourite activity out of her 2 terms was making and
colouring a cat because cats are cute. Skye’s favourite activity was making the people that rotate to
different backgrounds because she liked the way it looked. Ashlyn agreed that she can trust Denisha to
solve her problems in the playground. Skye can also trust Rachel to solve any problems that she has. Skye
and Ashlyn always run up to Rachel and Denisha to give them a great big hug and then have a little
conversation with them. Ashlyn thinks that Denisha is a cheerful, nice and fun person. Skye thinks that
Rachel is a happy and nice buddy. Ashlyn came to Maramba P.S half way through the year, so that is why
Denisha has been buddies with Ashlyn for 2 terms. Rachel and Skye have been buddies for the whole year.
Ashlyn has had a wonderful time being Denisha’s buddy, and Skye has had a wonderful time being Rachel’s
buddy.
Grade 6s
Rachel and Denisha are very happy that they have buddies because it gives them a younger student to
interact with. This is their second year that they have had buddies and they have really enjoyed it. Their
buddies come up to them and give them a great big hug and talk for a little before they go off and play
again. Rachel’s favourite activity was making the bear with her buddy, Skye. Denisha’s favourite activity
was colouring and putting together a paper cat with her buddy, Ashlyn. Their buddies trust them to solve
their problems in the playground during recess and lunch. Rachel thinks her buddy is nice, energetic and a
great buddy to have. Denisha thinks her buddy is sweat, fun and a lovely prep to have as a buddy.

As is often the case we have staff leaving us at the end of the year to take up positions at new schools. This
year we farewell Jeff Smit who was with us as a student teacher in 2000 and attained his first position here
as a graduate teacher in 2001. He left in 2005 to take up an appointment at Beaconsfield. He returned in
2007 to take up a position as a Leading Teacher in the senior area. During his time he has led the grade five
six area overseeing many curriculum developments through times of enormous change. He has also capably
coordinated the many extra activities that grade six children are involved in. His passion has always been
about extending children which has led to him developing strong relationships with Fountain Gate
Secondary College. He has always taken on extra responsibilities around the school and his presence will be
greatly missed. We wish him all the best at Langwarrin Primary School where he will continue to develop
new skills to further his career.
We will also say goodbye to Emma Jennion who spent her primary school years at Maramba. This was
always something that made her appointment here in 2011 very special. She has taught grade one or prep in
her time here and has been the teacher who makes a child’s formative years an exciting start to their
educational journey. She will always be remembered for her work back stage at the productions and being
prepared to help in any way she could around the school. Emma is off to Beaconsfield and we wish her all
the best as she one again inspires young children to leap into their learning.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE CONTINUED……..
FINAL DAY REMINDERS
Our final assembly is at 12.20 where we will introduce our new leaders to the school and farewell our grade
six children. We look forward to seeing you there if you can make it.
On the final day we will be dismissing at 1.00pm and all children will be directed to cross at the front of the
school in Maramba Drive. We are doing this as Casey Council will not be manning crossings at this time and
this is a 40 speed zone. All teachers will be out on duty and directing children to a safe crossing spot but
cannot man the crossings. We appreciate your support with this matter and look forward to personally
wishing you a safe and enjoyable holiday.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Isn’t it great when….we have a number of former students who volunteer to come back to Maramba at this
time of year to assist us? The teachers are very grateful for their help with both classroom and specialist
programs. This work is not glamorous – lots of dusty cupboards to be cleaned out, sorting through things in
the Art room, cleaning up the PE store room, assisting with the Music program and helping
teachers pack up to move.
I’d like to thank the following secondary school students for their time both this week and next:
Amelia, Kyler, Rachael, Astrid, Ella, Catlin, Kayla, Leah, Keeley, Eve, Abbey, Josh,
Ethan and Aaron
Preparing our Preps for 2015: The Preps are doing 8 Christmas rotation activities and
mixing Prep T and Prep M to make some new friends and get ready for grade one . They
have been working in new groups, making Christmas baubles, Santas, Rudolph and paper
chains. They have been rehearsing as a whole group for their item at tonight’s Christmas
concert. We look forward to seeing them perform.

binned, preventing the resources like energy and water that went into making it from going to
waste. Make sure gifts are durable and they will last even longer.
