Everyone has heard variations of the theme: “In these economic times, things are difficult.” With both the national and international
economic situation unstable, small not-for-profit foundations such as ours have to work even harder to make ends meet. Because you have
been one part of this critical source of help, we offer our most sincere appreciation and this annual report. Being transparent is important to
us and we believe you, the broader family of Rostro de Cristo, are owed a thorough accounting of your support for our work.
In these few pages you will see a summary of our 2009 financial reality. You can see that income for the year was less and expenses were
more. Some of these expenses are related to the increased cost of doing business in Ecuador and we have little control over them. You
can also see that the percentage of income that is used for administration is remarkably low: 91% of every dollar received goes directly to
program expenses.
The program had a deficit last year and, in truth we cannot afford to run at a deficit. For this reason we are working hard to control all
expenses and to seek added resources so that Rostro de Cristo can carry out its mission in the United States and in Ecuador.
Your continued support for us is appreciated more than you can know! Your donation does make a difference and you can be certain it is
well used. In this new year we are building a new center for our work in an enormous, impoverished region north of downtown Guayaquil.
It is one of those sad truths, when the economy is hard for us in the North, it is doubly difficult for the poor in the southern hemisphere.
