Dear Parishioners,
On Wednesday of last week, Bishop Andrzej
presided at three Confirmation Masses, confirming 160 8th graders from Our Lady of Victory
Parish. Congratulations to all of them!
Each Mass was celebrated prayerfully, solemnly and with great dignity. The students were
well-prepared and did a great job! Bishop
Andrzej offered a meaningful message in an engaging way. He also spoke to each of the three
groups for a half-hour prior to the ceremony. His
energy is impressive!
Special thanks needs to be extended to Mary
Garofalo and Lisa Molinelli for taking care of the
Confirmation program for these students, and for
organizing the Masses - and to Mrs. Peg
Augello and the Religion teachers from OLVS
who prepared the OLVS students. Christine
Fuchs and Anne Marie Murphy, who take care of
the Faith Formation from grades 1 to 6, offered
valuable assistance prior to and during Confirmation Day. I would like to thank our volunteer 7th
and 8th Faith Formation teachers (catechists)
who taught and prepared the students. So many
other people also worked on helping the day to
go smoothly - Deacon Larry, the Parish Staff, the
altar servers, and our Music Ministry leaders and
choir who did a great job leading us in song!
May the gifts of the Holy Spirit fill the souls
of these 160 young people and transform their
lives and our world!
Second Collection for Catholic Education
The second collection this weekend will
be for the benefit of the elementary schools in the
Diocese of Rockville Centre and for the thousands of children whose lives are enriched by
these schools every day. Catholic elementary
schools, including Our Lady of Victory School,
provide a strong, quality Catholic education with
high academic standards and are environments
where our faith if learned and lived every school
day. Half of this second collection will stay in the
parish to help fund OLV School, and the other
half will be sent to the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation, the charity here on Long Island that helps
deserving families with tuition assistance. Please
be as generous as possible.
Harvest Park
Sisters of St. Dominic, Sister Mary Butler and
Sister Jeanne Andre Brendel will be speaking
after Communion at the Masses this weekend to
tell you about their ministry at Harvest Park here
in Floral Park. Harvest Park is a home for wellelders at 33 Flower Avenue, Floral Park, that
provides a home for people who choose to live
independently, while also living in a community.
The Sisters are not requesting donations, they
just want to inform the community of the presence of Harvest Park and invite you to perhaps
explore the possibility of residing at Harvest Park
for yourself or a loved one.
Commitment to Peace
During the week, Bishop Murphy sent a twopage letter to all the priests of the Diocese entitled “Commitment to Peace.” Over the next few
weeks I will be including sections of the letter in
the bulletin. You can read the entire content of
the letter at www.drvc.org.
Fundamentally, the Bishop’s message is that
“we must enroll ourselves into the ranks of men
and women who pray daily for peace. Prayer is
God’s weapon of choice that is always at the
ready so long as we exercise it. For this reason, I
am issuing a call to peace as Bishop of this Diocese, an urgent invitation to one and all, without
exception, to accept the responsibility and to
commit ourselves to daily prayer for peace.”
This certainly is something we can do as a
parish community. In upcoming weeks we will
be planning various opportunities to come together to pray for peace - for example designating Holy Hours and the Rosary for peace. In the
mean time we will be including the following
intention in the Prayer of the Faithful at every
Sunday Mass: “For peace in the our world, an
end to violence wherever people are being persecuted, driven from their homes or put to death,
that through the intercession of Mary, Queen of
Peace, God’s gift of peace might soon be attained, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our
prayer.”

Two of the Church’s seven sacraments were
celebrated at OLV this week! This weekend, our second
graders received their First Holy Communion and, this
past Wednesday our eighth graders received the sacrament of Confirmation. God Bless them all!
This Wednesday evening, May 6th at 7:30
pm, our Home School Association will host an “Open
Meeting,” to which all of our parents are invited.
The Executive Board for the 2015-2016 school
year will be introduced and we will have an opportunity
to thank the outgoing board members. I am grateful to
the ongoing support of the Home School Association!
OLV School Board News
Two positions on the OLV School Board will become available in September. The School Board
acts in an advisory capacity to the pastor and the
principal. Based on guidelines established by the
Diocese of Rockville Centre, the Board develops
and recommends policies compatible with our
school's philosophy. Its members, once elected and
approved by the pastor, serve a three-year term.
Candidates must be members of the parish, or have
a child attending our school. Interested parties

dedicated to Mary, and Catholics have long
honored the Blessed Mother by placing a crown
on her image. Crowning a statue of the Lord's
Mother is symbolic of the honor we give her as
the one chosen by God to bear His Son,
our Salvation.

Diocese of Rockville Centre Information and
Resources on Assisted Suicide
A Letter from Most Rev. William Murphy
Catholics in the State of New York, particularly those in our Diocese, should be very
alarmed by movements promoting assisted suicide legislation. As we are doing now with the
Education Investment Tax Credit and have done
in the past about important issues regarding life,
we must work together to educate, inform and
encourage our people to engage actively in pushing back any legislation which compromises the
gift of life.
While we do not expect this issue to come to
the forefront until after the budget is settled, it is
important to raise awareness and encourage appropriate action now.
First, please encourage parishioners
to visit www.catholicendoflife.org as solid information and resources can be found here. We also
need Catholics throughout the Diocese to contact
the Governor’s office and the Long Island delegation of assembly members and senators. This is
easily done through the Catholic Action Network
at www.nyscatholic.org. The Respect Life Office
has provided additional resources to assist you.
Second, please consider making use of the
document, Now and at the Hour of our Death,
published by the Bishops of New York State. The
very user-friendly document provides important
and relevant information that parishioners can
utilize in their own formation and advocacy. You
can visit www.nyscatholic.org to order copies of
the document, in English and in Spanish. This is
a very fluid situation at the moment and legislation can change very quickly. The New York
State Catholic Conference is closely monitoring
the situation in Albany. Please pay careful attention to any action or information alerts you receive from the conference or from our Diocese.
Finally, let us commit to praying for the gift of
life and the conversion of hearts and minds for
the respect and dignity of God’s greatest gift,
from natural conception to natural death.

May 29th Special Needs Respite Night (located
at St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square)
Food Pantry - A special thank you to Kevin
Rooney and his team of expert carpenters! They
renovated our pantry here at the Parish Center
and did an outstanding job. Thank you for the
time and skill put into making our pantry so appealing. Every person using our pantry has a
much nicer experience.
Food Donations –We received a generous
amount of donations so we sent food over to Our
Lady of Loretto in Hempstead. They sent us a
letter of gratitude and appreciation, they have
such a great need over there they have sent many
letters of gratitude over these past few years.
Thanks also to our volunteers that prepare the
delivery of food for it to be picked up, Lilian
Murphy, MaryJoan Graham and Jean Davi. They
have been consistently doing this for years with
a special concern for those in need thank you all.
Respite Night - All those who have a family
member or friend that may be interested in our
Respite Night please invite them, sometimes a
personal invitation can make the difference. It is
an evening that offers parents of those with special needs a night to themselves and we have the
opportunity to enjoy spending time with your
special children. Our volunteers are trained and
have much experience working with special
needs.

certificate must accompany your date request.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
Our RCIA process welcomes adults not baptized who
wish to join the Catholic Church. We welcome, as
well, baptized adults seeking the Sacraments of First
Communion and Confirmation. Please contact the

DEVOTIONS
Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction - The First
Friday of the month at 7:00 pm in the church.
The Angelus/Regina Caeli is recited each weekday at
12 noon.
The Rosary is prayed each weekday after the 12 noon
Mass and on Monday evenings at 7:00 pm
The Miraculous Medal Novena is prayed on Mondays
