The Kaufmann Quarter Horse Ranch has
been utilized for many years for breeding and
training registered Quarter horses. Under the
present operation, the ranch supports 25 head
of horses year around and 30 head of yearling
heifers for five months.
A new 3-tower Reinke center pivot, low-pressure irrigation system irrigates approximately
40 acres of newly planted grass-alfalfa hay currently producing 150± tons of excellent
horse hay annually.
Irrigation water is diverted from Rock Creek and flows through the Prince Albert Ditch to a
buried pipeline on the ranch and then flows into sod ditches and gated pipe for flood irrigation of the remaining meadows. This irrigation water has an 1883 Wyoming Territorial appropriation. A new head gate and dam were installed in 2007.
One well (700 ft. depth) provides water for the residence and barns, while a second well
(300 ft. depth) provides water for the automatic lawn sprinkler system.
The elevation at the ranch is 4,500 feet and, according to the NRCS 30-year average, annual precipitation is between 12” and 14”.
The 72’ x 205’ (14,760 sq. ft) Morton [brand name] indoor arena has an attached 36’ x
72’ (2,592 sq. ft.) Morton Stall Barn with 8 box stalls, tack room, bathroom and feed
storage area.

forage for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, eagles, hawks, pheasants, ducks, geese, fox and
occasional antelope and mule deer.
Buffalo (population 4500) is the county seat of Johnson County and a wonderful small town that offers
many services including four banks, a large hospital/medical center/nursing home complex, a Senior Center, a YMCA, a movie theater, museum, and several restaurants and motels. The community also offers
the State’s largest outdoor swimming pool, an outstanding 18-hole golf course, a large rodeo arena and
fairgrounds facility and a livestock sale barn. The Buffalo Municipal Airport is capable of handling small
private jets; commercial air service is available in Sheridan, which is just 30 minutes from the ranch. The
scenic Big Horn Mountains and Big Horn National Forest -- a sportsman's paradise with an abundance of
spectacular scenery, wildlife, fascinating frontier heritage and outdoor recreation -- are “just out the back
