First Merchants Corporation has a rich
history that dates back to 1893, when
the bank was Merchants National
Bank of Muncie. Through many
years of acquisitions, mergers
and charter consolidations, First
Merchants Bank was established.

Mike Rechin is President and Chief Executive Officer of First Merchants Corporation.
Mike is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelors degree in English and an MBA in finance.
He has completed numerous banking schools during his career.
As an active leader in the central Indiana community, Mike is a director of the Indiana State Chamber of
Commerce and a director of Lynx Capital Corporation. He serves on the Board of Trustees at Minnetrista
and serves on the Economic Club of Indiana Board of Governors. He previously served as a director of the
United Way of Central Indiana, The Arts Council of Indianapolis, Junior Achievement of Indianapolis, and
the Indy Partnership.
Mike and his wife, Debbie, have three children and reside in Carmel, Indiana.

Mike Stewart is Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer for First Merchants Corporation.
Mike has a Bachelors degree in finance from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and an MBA from Butler
University in Indianapolis, IN. His current community support includes Chairman of the Board for Bosma
Industries for the Blind and member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Central Indiana,
Inc. He is a former Chairman of the Board of the Seton Society (a St Vincent Hospital Foundation
Organization) and an alumnus of the Diversity Leadership of Greater Indianapolis. He also served two
years on the Board of Directors of Ballet Internationale, six years on the Methodist Children’s Hospital
fundraising sub committee and was Co-Chair of the United Way Campaign.
Previous to joining First Merchants, Mike spent eighteen years with National City Bank, most recently as
Executive Vice President of the Corporate Banking Group.
Mike and his wife, Barb, have one son.

Mike Hurst is Regional President for the Central Region.
Mike is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science in Management, a Bachelors of Art in
Psychology and a Masters of Science in Management.
Mike began his career as a regulator for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis – Office of Thrift of
Supervision. In 1994 Mike entered the banking industry, serving in a variety of senior credit and lending roles. He joined First Merchants Bank in 2009 as Senior Commercial Lending Manager and became
Regional President in 2010.
Mike is active in the community and has sat on various philanthropic boards including, Susie’s Place Child
Advocacy Center, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church where he sits on the Faith Formation Committee
and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mike is married with two children and resides in Martinsville, Indiana.

Jerry Engle has over 29 years of banking experience and 10 years of regulatory experience with the
Department of Financial Institutions. Jerry began his banking career as the Senior Vice President,
Lending and Operations for Bargersville State Bank, a $28 million financial institution and quickly
assumed the responsibilities of Executive Vice President in 1982 and Chief Executive Officer in 1984.
Jerry’s career afforded many opportunities in leadership roles, most recently as the President and Chief
Executive Officer for Lincoln Bank, one of the oldest Community Banks in Central Indiana. Jerry holds
a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration from the University of Southern Illinois. Jerry is very
active in Johnson County where he serves as a member of the Johnson County Economic Development
Board, Trustee of Johnson County Memorial Hospital Board, member of Johnson County Community
Foundation, member of Johnson Memorial Hospital Foundation and has served as the regional President
for the Indiana Bankers Association.
