Website update
We are currently putting the final touches on a saleen.com website refresh. The new design will detail a lot more photos of the
vehicles in a fresh format.
*New* you will be able to choose a vehicle color on the website
and see how your new Saleen will look in any color we have
available! We have never before had this feature on our website. The only drawback is you can’t really tell how cool the
Lizstick Red or Orange County Orange is unless you see it in
person.

SALEEN CELEBRATES 30 YEARS AS AN AUTOMOTIVE BRAND
Manufactures a Few Powerful Anniversary Models
Saleen Automotive Inc. (OTCQB: SLNN) Corona, CA – (November 21, 2013)
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Saleen as a specialty vehicle manufacturer. To commemorate the event, Saleen Automotive
will be producing 3 variations of its SA-30 model.
“Through our automotive passion we celebrate every day that we are able to continue to design, develop, and produce the cars that
we manufacture”, said Steve Saleen. “Once every five years, I celebrate the achievements with the automotive community through a
commemorative vehicle.”
As the sixth edition in the SA series, the Saleen Anniversary series vehicles have become well known and coveted among collectors
and enthusiasts for their exclusivity and extremely low production numbers. Each anniversary edition vehicle also traditionally boasts
a balanced blend of Saleen legacy and future enhancements.
Limited Production
A total of thirty Saleen SA-30 vehicles will be produced, ten each of a Saleen 620 Camaro, 570 Challenger, and 302 Mustang. Although each Saleen model is based on a different platform, all Saleen SA-30 vehicles will share a common theme: Saleen Racing
Heritage.
Design and Livery
In years past, Saleen Anniversary editions have touted a distinct paint scheme that is deeply rooted in the motorsports livery from
Saleen race vehicles. With thirty years marking the pearl anniversary, the SA-30 lineup will be available in a single theme consisting of
a custom ‘Tire Smoke’ pearl white Saleen paint with Speedlab yellow and black painted components that all come together to provide
a distinct paint design that is instantly recognizable as a Saleen product. Additional color touches will be added in the form of color
matched pearl white Saleen wheels.
The interior treatment has been completely redesigned for the Saleen SA-30 vehicles. In addition to the special edition SA-30 insignia
on the serialized dash plaque, interior badging, and SA-30 carpeting the seating has been completely refreshed with a black leather
and white perforated alcantara treatment that brings the 30th Anniversary livery to the drivers’ cabin as well.
An optional complete interior reconfiguration in the form of a 2-seater Fastback setup is also available on each of the SA-30 Saleen
models. This Saleen tailor-made interior package is the ultimate addition to the
SA-30. It starts with completely removing the rear seat and rear deck, then the
fabrication creates a true racecar type interior transformation with custom formed
panels to separate the cabin from the trunk area. Adding to the structure while
improving handling is a race style cross-brace that ties in to the rear shock towers. Following the fabrication, Saleen crafts tailor-made leather to give a final fit
and finish to the ‘rear seat delete’ option.
“When we began exploring some new Saleen styling that we wanted to debut
with the SA-30 vehicles, we knew that we wanted something that spoke of our
‘Born of Racing’ heritage and a rear seat delete came as a natural choice for the
SA-30”, said Sean Smith, Design Director. “Through the fastback design we were
able to add a lot of refinement to the interior while still retaining the racecar environment.”

Technologically advanced design
The distinct SA-30 options are not only prepared for the interior but also projects outward in a familiar way. Saleen SA-30 302 model
will also have a Saleen panoramic roof available option with a technological advancement, Saleen Frost-Touch Glass.
Debuting on the SA-30 302 Mustang, the Saleen Frost-Touch Glass provides that ability to have a complete panoramic glass roof
while giving the option to change it from translucent to opaque with the touch of a button. This technology is integrated into the panoramic roof and rear window glass to allow the user to diffuse the light in both areas independently.
To quickly bring this technology to market for the SA-30 302, Saleen worked closely with Southern California based Glass Apps, LLC
in a strategic partnership between the two firms.
“With past models, the panoramic glass roof was a fantastic compliment to any Saleen vehicle, but our #1 request was to develop a
way to shade the glass without having to apply standard tint or add interior hardware”, said Sven Etzelsberger, VP of Engineering.
“We began working with this technology some time ago, and it has come to the point where we are able to completely frost the rear
window to the panoramic glass roof almost instantaneously.”
Using suspended particle technology, the Saleen Frost-Touch Glass uses an electric current to energize and align otherwise randomly
placed particles. When the Rear Window and the Panoramic Glass roof are in frost mode, the level of solar transmission is reduced by
40 percent, and the amount of UV protection is increased by 98%.
Power and Performance
Providing the Speed portion of the Speed | Science | Style trifecta is a well-integrated Saleen supercharged package adorning each of
the SA-30 power plants. Horsepower numbers vary for each SA-30 platform and will top out at 625HP with the SA-30 Mustang edition.
Providing grip and traction assistance is the Saleen suspension package that carries over from the current Saleen production vehicles. Stopping power is on demand with the yellow powder-coated Saleen big brake kits all as standard equipment for the SA-30 vehicles.
Availability, Pricing and Additional Information
As a total run of just ten SA-30 Camaros, ten SA-30 Challengers, and ten SA-30 Mustangs availability is expected to end quickly for
these exclusive models. MSRP for the SA-30 model is set at $95,000 before options. Orders for these and other Saleen vehicles can
be placed today at Saleen dealers nationwide, or by contacting Saleen directly for a personalized ordering process which concludes at
the nearest Saleen Authorized Dealership. For more information visit www.saleen.com

Saleen Tesla design will be Saleen’s first effort in enhancing an
existing electric vehicle.
The full-color, multi-photo spread with the headline “New Saleen

Mount St. Helens National
Volcanic Monument
Above: July 22, 2013 on the return trip to Corona, California, Rudy and Betsy Beyer stopped to see Mount St.
Helens National Volcanic Monument. Johnston Ridge Observatory, elevation 4314 feet was off of I-5 south, at
the end of a 50 mile scenic drive on Washington Route 504 and the Spirit Lake Highway. This was 157 miles
from the Mustangs Northwest Roundup at Bellevue, Washington. Betsy and Rudy were in the area in June
1980, less than a month after the volcanic eruption on May 18, 1980. The area was closed and the surrounding states east of the mountain were covered with 20 inches of volcanic ash.
Right: Map of Mount St. Helens area and Volcanic Ash and Soil Profile.
From http://mountsthelens.com/history-1.html
“May 18, 1980, a Sunday, dawned bright and clear. At 7 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), USGS volcanologist David A. Johnston, who had Saturday-night duty at an observation post about 6 miles north of the volcano,
radioed in the results of some laser-beam measurements he had made moments earlier that morning. Even considering these measurements, the
status of Mount St. Helens' activity that day showed no change from the
pattern of the preceding month. Volcano-monitoring data—seismic, rate of
bulge movement, sulfur-dioxide gas emission, and ground temperature—
revealed no unusual changes that could be taken as warning signals for the catastrophe that would strike about an hour and a half
later. About 20 seconds after 8:32 a.m. PDT, apparently in response to a magnitude 5.1 earthquake about 1 mile beneath the volcano,
the bulged, unstable north flank of Mount St. Helens suddenly began to collapse, triggering a rapid and tragic train of events that resulted in widespread devastation and the loss of 57 people, including volcanologist Johnston.” For more information, visit the

Saleen Thunders Across the Nullabor Plains
Text and photos by: Helen (Doyle) Martin and Harry Martin
A lone Saleen made history as it was driven 3,935.6 kilometres
(2,445 miles) from Sydney on the east coast to Perth in Western
Australia via the vast Nullarbor (place of no trees).
It all started when I received an urgent phone call from a keen
member of the Mustang Owners Club of WA (West Australia)
wanting to verify the Saleen’s ID. A quick check of the VIN in
the Saleen Registry confirmed that the vehicle is #960034. Looking tired and lustreless, the Saleen had not had an
easy life, but that was about to change. Well known Perth businessman, Jeff Mills, had already taken to the air to rescue #960034 and add it to his impeccable Mustang collection.
On completion of formalities, Jeff & Maxine were at the wheel of
Saleen #96-0034 heading out of Sydney. Ahead lay the inhospitable Nullarbor Plains - the A1 Eyre Highway, Australia’s national highway connecting east to west. It is not a route to break
down on. The highway has long uninhabited expanses of barren
plains that include the world’s longest stretch of straight road - a
total of 146 kilometres (91.1 miles) without a turn or kink. Hitting
a kangaroo, camel, or wombat is always a threat. See more
information at http://Wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyre_Highway
Above & below: Saleen S281 #96-0034 near Perth, West Australia.
Drama began just one block from the starting point. The Saleen
suffered the indignity of a rear end collision by a wayward
learner driver. After putting the Sydney traffic dramas behind
them, the S281 (with its new owners aboard) roared west without further incident. The drive was a testament to the quality of
the Saleen (thanks Steve). A few days later the trip of 3,935.6
kilometres (2,445 miles) was over. They arrived safely in the
more “civilized”, sunny city of Perth.
The Saleen now gleams like new as if the Saleen was proud to
have a new home with Jeff and Maxine. It’s a great new life for a
great car.
In Pursuit of Excellence
Text and photos by: Helen (Doyle) Martin and Harry Martin
Pursuing Saleens or one could aptly say … in pursuit of excellence … requires travelling the Australian state of Victoria. In
Australia, vehicles are converted to right hand drive, and it takes
a talented specialist to do the transformation. To visit the shop
where the Saleens are converted was a lengthy trip across Victoria.
Yes, the state is named after Queen Victoria. Its capital is Melbourne, the second largest city down under. Melbourne was
founded in 1835. By the 1850’s, as a result of the discovery of
gold in the Ballarat region, Melbourne became the richest and
fastest growing city in the world.

Just a short drive from the CBD (Central Business District) is the
leafy green suburb of Fern Tree Gully, the home of Mustang
Motor Sport ( http://www.mustangmotorsport.com.au ) where a
treasure trove of Mustangs, Camaros, and other performance
vehicles were being converted from left hand to right hand
drive.
A number of Saleens were spotted and quickly photographed for
SOEC readers. Sitting inside the engine bay of #13-013 SOEC
member Harry Martin commented on the high standards employed by Craig Dean, Managing Director of Mustang Motor
Sport. Harry, who has toured the Saleen facility in California,
praised Craig, his wife, Robyn, and the MMS staff for the quality

and dedication hallmarked in the vehicles that have completed

Racing Saleens Down Under
Text and photos by Helen (Doyle) Martin and Harry Martin
Saleen owners down under, like in the US, share a bond to enjoy and treasure their Saleen. After all, it’s a long journey & it
takes effort to get a Saleen down here in the first place. Would
they race their Saleen? In most cases, definitely not, but to
enlighten SOEC readers, Saleen professional racing does occur
in Australia.
I recall, with awe, that the August 1999 edition of “Performance
Street Car” (an Australian magazine) announced that Saleen
had arrived. On page 25, the centre page reads “Saleen
Scorcher … This Saleen S351 #1999-02 is set to stick it to the
Porches and Ferraris in Australian production car racing”.
Craig Dean, who had first ridden a motorbike at age 7, never
stopped going as fast as he could. He went from a 750 Kawasaki to a 1100GPZ. That gave way to fast cars, including many
high tech monsters. In fact, until 1997 Craig had not ventured
on to a race track circuit. Armed with #99-002 Saleen S351, he
went on to win success in the Australian GT championships,
and the gruelling Tasmanian Targa Rally.( www.targa.com.au )
In 2006, a powerful extreme replica made its debut on the racing
circuit. Craig proudly partnered with his son, Benjamin. They
painted and dressed up the transformer image and hammered
the racetracks whilst promoting Mustang Motor Sports. This
power packed race car was retired in 2011.

Reading Saleen Alley, in particular news and notes is a credit to
its editor Betsy Beyer, and her team. The stories and updates
are always a great read (thanks Betsy). The events, shows, and
overviews of SOEC as put out by Jim Dvorak via the soec.org
website are very informative. It is nice to be constantly updated
on the interesting things going on in the US. A trip to the 50th
Anniversary Mustang Show in Charlotte is on the schedule for
us, Helen (Doyle) Martin and Harry Martin. If you see us at the
Saleen tent, please say hello!

Saleen Heritage Down Under

Another piece of Saleen history has made its mark down under.
Steve’s original racing rims from the GT 350 in which he started
his racing career made a unique appearance at the All Ford Day
in Perth, Western Australia. The rims were part of the Mustang
Owners Club of West Australia (WA) display which had a
“racing” theme. The rims are now owned by club life member
Brian McDonough who, as I reported in Saleen Alleys Spring
Edition Vol. 16, Issue 1 2013, became the owner of the 1965
Shelby GT 350 some years back. The car was restored back to
its original Shelby glory. Brian was happy to roll out the 4 rims
to enhance the racing theme of the club display. The rims can
be seen here with Brian as well as proud Saleen owners Harry
Martin and Craig Murray.

Australasian Safari: September 20-27, 2013

Perth and Western Australia has again become prominent with the US racing SOEC member Helen Doyle in front of the orange
fraternity. A unique girl powered team competed in the Australasian Safari, Jeep Wrangler that the USA Team Lerner Reina raced
down under’s toughest endurance race. The race has a route of coastal sand in the Australasian Safari.
dunes combined with the outback farmland and the customary choking red
dust of the Mid West region. Safari is a Dakar Challenge event where competitors have the chance to qualify for the next Dakar. As an official of the
Safari organizing committee and submerged in pre-event activities, I had the
pleasure of meeting competitors from the USA, Amy Lerner and Tricia Reina.
My partner Harry, who is also on the event organizing committee, had already introduced himself to the girls from the USA. Tricia’s home is in California so she is familiar with the Saleen territory of Southern California and Orange County, California. As a proud Saleen owner and member of the
SOEC, Harry had the knowledge to interject a few strategically placed words
such as S7, Bruce Almighty, and Steve Saleen. An instant connection was
struck. Through this meeting I have been able to write their story for the
Saleen Alley and allow readers to share the incredible and daring adventure taken on by these two USA female adventurists.
Team Lerner Reina ( www.teamlernerreina.com ) drive an orange Jeep Wrangler, a most recognizable colour to the Saleen family.
The Jeep isn’t “Orange County Orange” like the new Saleen 351, but Tricia is from Orange County California. Before competing in
Australia, the team already had a placing under their belt. They were the first American team to make the top 10 in the demanding
ECO driving challenge held in Morocco. They were looking for another challenging adventure, and the Australasian Safari was it.
Amy, pilot for the race, is a wife and mother from New Jersey who also is a graduate of the Skip Barber Racing School. She handled
the Jeep Wrangler with incredible skill that got them through some very difficult sections of the race. Other auto competitors had problems and were not able to finish the race. Tricia, a business owner from Orange County California, was inspired by the beauty of the
Australian outback and the spirit that exists within the Australasian Safari camp. As the navigator and co driver, Tricia had her hands
full guiding Amy through the many challenging and treacherous safari sections. The two only meet a few times a year to compete.
The girls did incredibly well. They impressed their competing colleagues and finished with the distinction of exceeding their expectations by winning the Dakar Challenge component of the event. That automatically gives them entry to Dakar 2014.
SOEC readers can also log on to www.australasiansafari.com.au that may inspire a visit to Perth, or if you are looking for that unique
off road adventure, perhaps you may want to enter the Australasian Safari. Either way, it could be a great start to see the wonders of
Western Australia.
