LEONARDO DA VINCI AND GUNTHER VON
LEONARDO DA VINCI AND GUNTHER VON HAGENS AN EXTRAORDINARY AND IMAGINARY VISITOR TO BODY WORLDS Visitors to BODY WORLDS can experience an interesting theatrical representation which will take place these days in the Complesso Monumentale Santo Stefano al Ponte: “Leonardo da Vinci e Gunther von Hagens”. What would evoke in the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci the sight of human bodies and organs treated with the process of plastination? What would the historical master and the contemporary disciple discuss on anatomy? A short educational and entertaining theatrical representation comes to BODY WORLDS, featuring an imaginary and unexpected encounter between Leonardo and Gunther von Hagens. A liaison between the groundbreaking genius of early modern science (and inventor of anatomical drawing), and the scientist who pioneered and developed plastination: the innovative technique which enables the observation of the human body in great detail and comprehends its form in a simplified manner. Leonardo meticulously drew what he saw, spreading about his discoveries, whilst von Hagens has permitted the observation of the structure of the human body to millions of people through the process of plastination. Leonardo, driven by his thirst for understanding nature, its laws and, above all, the human being, narrates of his difficult night-time studies, at the time practically unknown to most people, in the morgue and in hospital. On the other hand, von Hagens describes his contemporary, revolutionary idea and his desire to share his profound knowledge of anatomy.
