Tamsui Old Street
Tamsui Old Street includes Chongjian Street, Zhongzheng Street and Qingshui Street. The first
developed was Chongjian Street. Many wood and brick buildings are still standing on each side of
the street, with a view of the Tamsui River mouth at its end. Zhongzheng and Qingshui Street are
located on the riverbank. Bustling with business activities, the streets and shops were renovated, and
a public art piece was installed at the entrance. Must try specialty snacks like A-gei (oily tofu), iron
eggs, fish balls and shrimp rolls.
Bali
Bali Old Street
Bali Old Street is the area around the ferry boat terminus. In the early days when shipping business
flourished, there were as many as 13 trading firms established. The nearby Tianhou Temple was the
important spiritual support for seamen and residents. In recent years, the street near the terminal
was restored, integrating riverbank walking path with French and Taiwan flavor, suitable for visitors to
stroll, enjoy coffee and cycling.
Jinshan
Jinshan Old Street
Jinshan Old Street was formerly called "Jinbaoli", meaning "the land of plentiful harvest" in
Ketagalan. Located near by a fishing port, sulfur and coal mines, and due to its central location
in Northeast Coast, Jinshan Old Street soon became the heart of businesses around the area.
The Chinese medicine and rice shops on the street are all over a century old. Behind the street
are several hot spring bathhouses, perfect for visitors to experience hot springs. Duck and sweet
potatoes are the local specialty food.

the spirit of forefathers sailing across the
sea to Taiwan.

With Jishan Street as main axle, Jiufen Old Street developed due to gold mining during the Japanese Occupation
Period. Aside from gold shops and grocery stores, there are also many places of entertainment for mine workers. The
canopy constructed to keep rain out caused lack of light on the street, thus the street is also called "Dark Street". The
street became a popular as the movie, "City of Darkness" directed by Hsiao-hsien Hou, was filmed here, attracting
people for tea, snack food, and stay in private lodging to experience the unique mountain and sea atmosphere.

Wulai Old Street
In Atayal dialect, wulai means "steaming hot spring". The hot spring is believe to have cosmetic
effects, thus lead to the proliferation of hot spring houses as early as the Japanese Occupation Period
to attract officials and aristocrats. The abundant resources in the surrounding area induced forest
engineering, to help the development of the Old Street. It is especially suitable to visit here during
spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom or in autumn when the maple leaves turn red.
