THE ‘P’ IS SILENT
Sheffield based furniture and product design studio Psalt Design was formed in 2010 by Richard Bell, Tom
McKeown and David Powell. The trio of designers wanted to take advantage of the wealth of industrial
and creative opportunities the city has to offer to conceive, design, and manufacture furniture and interior
products.
The main focus of the studio is to create beautifully designed and skilfully manufactured products with a
twist of intrigue and humour. The starting point for many of their products comes from working with local
manufacturers, workshops and people who share the same passion we do for quality and fine detail.
Early studio projects included Bubble Tank. A hand blown glass fish tank, Bubble Tank became a widely
recognised and distributed product that emphasised some of the common themes that feature in Psalt
Design’s work.

The studio have exhibited both nationally and internationally at a range of shows and exhibitions including
Design Event MART (The Baltic, Newcastle), MIKSER Festival (Belgrade, Serbia), TENT London (London
Design Week) and most recently HOME 2013 (Earls Court, London).

ATLAS TABLE
The inspiration for the Atlas Series stems from an appreciation
for industrial fixtures and fittings in our everyday surroundings.
The overall appearance of the Atlas Table is designed to
reflect the beauty of pure function, as found in architecture
and structural design. Strength is provided by the high quality
tension system attached to the custom made steel framework
of the legs. Each component ‘pops’ effortlessly into place
allowing for the table to be quickly assembled or taken apart
in a matter of minutes.

ATLAS BENCH
Part of the Atlas Series; The inspiration for the Atlas Bench
stems from an appreciation for industrial fixtures and fittings in
our everyday surroundings.
Strength is provided by high quality materials with a solid
wood oak top providing a high quality, durable surface
supported by handmade steel tube framework.

The bench can be constructed and taken apart in a matter of
minutes. The three components of the bench allow for the
metal legs to ‘pop’ into place and also enable the bench to be
flat-packed and stored away easily.

MYOSOTIS
A magnetic sheet steel notice board designed to help keep a
little more order in todays busy society.
Made by hand in Sheffield (the Steel City), each board is
cut and folded to the required dimensions with the front lip
providing the ideal space for loose change, keys, wallet or
purse.

The colour of the clock hands represents the painting of
the timber ends at our local supply yard where the wood is
sealed and painted so that each type of wood can be easily
recognised and selected.
We use a high gloss finish on the wood juxtaposed with
the matt finish of the clock hands. The result is Simple yet
effective.

BUBBLE TANK
Fish tanks and aquariums are often the main attraction in a
room, however it is usually the fish themselves that are the
focal point rather than the tank. The Bubble Tank aims to
question this by creating a beautiful, as well as functional,
product aimed to provoke a reaction, conversation or
interaction between the owner and any guests.
Made from premium glass, handblown and slumped by a
master glassblower each tank has it’s own unique form and
individual characteristics. Our aim was not for cheap mass
production but for a celebration of skill and craft that is
represented in a truly unique product.
