Since1816: first initiative for people in need of care (Zusters van
Liefde van de H. Vincentius à Paulo)
1918: children’s clinic in Groeningestraat 32
1949: General Hospital St.-Vincentius (50 beds)
1984: transformation into an organisation for elderly care (99
beds)
1995: network GVO (8 organisations for the elderly WestFlanders working together – shared mission, beliefs and vision:
to surround people in need of care with hospitality)

 Home Care: appr. 90% from federal government (financement of medical activities, medical
model);
 Elderly Care: until 2014: 60% from federal government, from 2014: 55% from Flemish
government;
 Hospital care: 95% from federal government;
 Care for disabled people: 100% from Flemish government (welfare model)

