The Six Rs
The Six Rs
At Ballacottier School
we want to help our
pupils become life long
learners, caring and
responsible citizens.
Why the Six Rs?
Developing the 6Rs and the
associated skills will provide
children with skills for life and
learning that will transform and
transcend their attitudes and
behaviour both in and out of school.
The 6Rs
Positive
Relationships
Readiness
Resilience

Reflectiveness
Relationships that are positive
Positive Relationships
We want our pupils to•  be able to work as part of a team
•  be able to make and sustain friendships
•  have understanding and respect for others
•  accept boundaries
•  have empathy and understanding of the roles of others
A little Consideration, a
little Thought for
Others, makes all the
difference.
Winnie the Pooh
Some relationship thoughts from Pooh and friends…
You can't stay in your
corner of the forest,
waiting for others to come
to you; you have to go to
them sometimes. Winnie
the Pooh
Eeyore, Winnie the Pooh
Just because an animal is
large, it doesn't mean he
doesn't want kindness;
however big Tigger seems
to be, remember that he
wants as much kindness as
Roo.

“Mrs Callister, can you cut my pizza up please?”
Mr Rhodes,” Try and be resilient. Have a go
yourself and see if you can do it.”
Year 1 boy, “Yes, I’ve done it ! ”
REFLECTIVENESS
People who don't think probably don't have Brains; rather, they have grey
fluff that's blown into their heads by mistake
.
Poetry and Hums
aren't things
which you get,
they're things
which get you. And
all you can do is to
go where they can
find you.
Reflective
The reflective
learner “learns
from
experience.”
The reflective
learner:
 asks “why?”
 stays calm
 listens to different
options
 learns from
mistakes
Reflectiveness

to think
We want our pupils to:
•  think laterally
•  be open to new ideas

Be Ready to Learn by:
being in the right place with the right
equipment

Readiness
A learner who is ready

range of situations
 takes responsibility
for their actions

different situations and learning experiences

another R which underpins the 6 Rs and
the ethos and attitude of the type of pupils
we want to develop at Ballacottier School.

listening to what people have to tell you
will help you learn.
