It has been awhile since our favorite Great Lakes Ballader has been here
so stop in for some Great tunes about the Great Lakes. Carl is a native
U.P. resident and a singer/songwriter/author whose songs and stories
will inspire you, make you laugh and give you even more reasons to
appreciate, love, and hold in awe the Greatest Great Lake of all, our
Lake Superior! Stop in a little early for our opening act: Carrie Dwyer will present a short dance performance before she heads back to Texas Christian University to continue her Modern Dance Bachelor
of Fine Arts degree.
Folias Flute and Guitar Duo
Saturday, August 8, 7:00 p.m.
This Grand Rapids, MI based duo is a performer/composer chamber music group founded in 2002 by the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron. They write original flute and guitar music influenced
by classical, tango, and jazz and have performed in concert halls, clubs and for tango events across North
America. On the duo’s website, Folias Music, you will find writings on their love for food, the great outdoors,
and adventurous touring. It will be good to have them back at Falling Rock.
Kraig Kenning
Saturday, August 15, 7:00 p.m.
Call him contemporary folk, blues, roots rock, American Fingerstyle or Americana. Regardless
of the genres crossed, Kraig Kenning manages to leave every audience feeling like they've just
spent some quality time with an old friend. Kenning's driving perfectionism and attention to
matters of the human spirit have inspired comparisons with Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Bob
Dylan and Jackson Brown…to name a few. "His fingerstyle is up to par with Leo Kottke and
Willy Porter, his vocals reminiscent of Bruce Cockburn. Kenning’s electrifying stage presence
has been honed over 20 years as a live performer throughout the U.S. At National Guitar's 1st Annual Slide Competition, Kraig
took first place honors as Best Unsigned Artist.
Ben Hassenger
Friday, August 21, 7:00 p,m.
Ben Hassenger’s works as a music facilitator with Special Education children and teaches ukulele and guitar
to students and teachers in Michigan school systems. He plays guitar and ukulele in the bands Blue Jello and
The Ukulele Kings and is the co-founder of the Lansing (MI) Area Ukulele Group and the organizer of the
Mighty Uke Day festival and Interlochen’s Uketoberfest in Upper Michigan. He is also a prolific songwriter,
with two of his songs about the Detroit Tigers enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of
Fame in Cooperstown, NY. He’s a fun and involving performer with a variety of original
songs about dogs, food, love, Michigan, and the other important things in life.
Skip Jones
Saturday, August 22 7:00 p.m.
For over 20 years, Skip has worked to bring people together around music. He has organized and directed
festivals & concert series, introduced house concerts to the Midwest & beyond, provided high quality sound
engineering for folk festivals & cultural events, and produced & recorded albums for local, regional and national artists. He's down-home, real and adds to any celebration! Stop by to enjoy this folksinger, storyteller,
and educator!
Wyatt and Shari Knapp
Saturday, August 29, 7:00 p.m.
Both Wyatt and Shari sing lead and harmony with exceptional vocal acuity. They are known for their
rich harmonies and great blend. Shari’s solid rhythm guitar work provides the foundation for Wyatt’s
finger-style and flat-picking guitar leads. Wyatt and Shari are also skillful arrangers, bringing a fresh
approach to their reworking of traditional, country, classic rock, gospel and pop standards. They were
chosen to participate as touring musicians in Michigan by the Michigan Humanities Council and the
Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
